Sovereign Court

On the last Saturday of the month of Desnus, with spring quickly coming into full bloom, you each find yourself approached by an immaculately-dressed courier wearing the livery of House Ornelos (a noble family within the city of Korvosa). She bows deeply to you, extending a hand-written invitation as she says ”Greetings to you, great champion. I humbly apologize for the abrupt interruption, but you have been personally chosen by Headmaster Toff Ornelos to participate as an honored guest in Korvosa’s annual Breaching Festival. We’re sure that you realize what a great honor this is and my master greatly hopes that you will accept this invitation on his behalf. We look forward to seeing you at the Acadamae of Korvosa for the competition. Until then, I bid you farewell.”
And then as quickly as she appeared, the courier vanishes with another bow and the casting of a spell.

DC 15 Knowledge (Arcana or Local) Check:
The Acadamae of Korvosa is famous for holding an annual competition known as the Breaching Festival: a carnival-like day on which a dozen hopefuls try to enter the famed magical university’s Hall of Wards by whatever means they can, a difficult and sometimes deadly challenge. However, doing so earns the victor extravagant wealth, magical might, and the praise and admiration of an entire city.

You receive a +10 to the check if you’ve ever been to Varisia, and…
If you beat the DC by 10 or more:
It’s a little strange to be invited in this way, as invitations to the Breaching Festival normally come from the Dean of Abjuration, not the Acadamae’s headmaster. However, Headmaster Toff Ornelos himself is a highly regarded wizard whose reputation as headmaster of the Acadamae has secured his fame among arcanists throughout the Inner Sea. Being invited by him personally to take part in the Breaching Festival is a great honor. Besides, the victors receive a huge payout and with the award money increasing every year the grand prize continuously going unclaimed, the current payout has swelled to approximately 153,000 gp!

Within a private booth in Korvosa' Shoreline Drinkhall, Sir Canayven Heidmarch-one of Varisia's two resident venturecaptains- begins his briefing.
"We have a serious problem," he says gravely. "As you may have heard, a month ago, Paracountess Zarta Dralneen disappeared. The Chelish diplomat was vital to the Pathfinder Society's operations within Cheliax, where members of our order are strictly forbidden. Without her political connections opening doors for us and distracting watchful eyes while we operate within Cheliax's borders, we will be set back a hundred years in terms of our exploration of this nation, a region of great interest to the Ten. We must therefore reinstate the paracountess in Absalom.
[/b]"Here's the good news: We've located her-she is alive, though she is imprisoned for seditious acts she did not commit. We also possess evidence we can use to exonerate her and ensure her release.[/b]
"The bad news is that the paracountess is being held in Citadel Vraid, home to the Hellknights of the Order of the Nail. Convincing those totalitarian mercenaries that the paracountess must be freed is going to be quite a challenge."
"We have this information thanks to a team of Pathfinders who infiltrated the Chelish Embassy during one of it's evening parties. Under the guise of servants, they discovered that Tancred Desimire, the paracountess' biggest enemy and a member of the Thrune government, forged letters apparently written in Dralneen's hand. These fictitious letters hinted at a rebellious alliance between the paracountess and the house's political enemies. Further, the Pathfinders discovered the paracountess's personal travel logs, which prove she was away from Absalom at the time when the letters claim she met with her conspirators in the Petal District."
At this point, the Sir Heidmarch reaches under the table to produce a largely packed folder full of documentation. "This is the documentation that the team recovered from the embassy. It must be shown to the Hellknights if there is any hope of recovering the paracountess alive. While the Order of the Nail has earned its reputation as a cadre of ruthless mercenaries, its Hellknights are still bound to uphold the law. I'd wager that the order's leaders would release the paracountess if they can be convinced they're holding her unlawfully. You, Pathfinders, must do that. Get custody of the paracountess and escort her here. I'll make sure she gets back to Absalom safely.
["One more thing: I know some of you may not like the Hellknights or what they stand for, but this is a diplomatic mission and not the time to air your personal grievances against the Order of the Nail. There are over four hundred Hellknights in Citadel Vraid, and you'll be in their home. Getting Dralneen out is your sole priority, and since the aw is on our side, you should run into no problems doing so provided\ you behave with reasonable caution and restraint. Do not take this warning lightly-you cannot take on the entire citadel in combat. Appeal to their sense of law and leave them to their business. Any questions?"
For those who made the cut, take a moment to introduce yourself and ask questions. We'll get started in a day or so.

I'm looking for 3-4 Pathfinders who are willing to travel to a Hellknight Citadel to free the wrongfully imprisoned Paracountess Zarta of Cheliax. Two spots have already been reserved so I will be accepting no more than four players. The tier will be 5-6 so make sure to submit an appropriate-level character. People submitting characters for play must be able to post at least once everyday (weekends may be a bit more relaxed). Thank you in advance to all who apply.

Sovereign Court

I'm just looking for one single character to round out a pre-existing party; a lvl. 1 healer who is PFS registered. You'll be required to post once a day (more leniency on weekends) and we'll be getting started as soon as someone responds and I'll be taking the first person who does. Thank you to all who show interest.

The invitation delivered last night was remarkably simple, especially given the importance of the occasion: “Start where it all began. Meet us at the Pig’s Paunch one hour before dawn.” The Pig’s Paunch is a run-down building with a faded sign of a large pig standing on its hind legs, arms folded above a corpulent belly. Inside, the air is thick with the scents of human sweat, stale tobacco, and leftover food. In the center of the room, surrounded by inebriates sleeping off their revelries, a familiar elven man stands high upon top of a large round table.
“Welcome! Welcome, my students! Please, have a seat!” With that, Kreighton Shaine, the Pathfinder Society’s Master of Scrolls, nimbly drops down to sit cross-legged on the table before looking about the tavern with a sense of reverent wonder. “Can you believe it? It all started here years ago—well, over four hundred of them at least. Under this very roof the Pathfinder Society was born."
“But today! Today you will begin your Confirmation! Master Farabellus, Master Zey, and I all agree you each have shown your worth and dedication to the Society, so there’s no better time to see if you can handle becoming full field operatives. Allow me to introduce you to Janira Gavix,” he says as he motions for an excitable halfling woman to approach. She wears a large backpack and carries all manner of tools, pouches, and scroll cases around her waist. Shaine continues, saying, “Janira here will be going with you on your Confirmation. She was one of my brightest pupils and will no doubt be an invaluable resource on your journey, for she discovered the caves you are about to explore during her own Confirmation.”
Janira speaks up in an enthusiastic and cheerful voice, “Greetings, aspiring Pathfinders! Six months ago, while I was mapping cave entrances in the foothills of the Kortos Mounts, I witnessed a lone gillman entering a concealed cave. I thought little of it at the time, but I saw another one enter the cave again a month later as my Confirmation stretched on. A few days later, after I completed my assigned task, I entered the cave system, but was unable to find the gillmen.”
Master Shaine hops to his feet. “Initiates, for your Confirmation, you will travel to these caves to explore and document its many passages. Additionally, and most importantly, you are to learn what the gillmen are up to in there. Oh, and you need to come back alive as well.” With these parting words, the Master of Scrolls jumps off the table and strolls out of the building while humming to himself.

As Master Shane departs, Janira smiles to the group and says “Right, on to the details of the mission at hand,” Janira says with an eager grin. “After reviewing my mission reports personally, Master Shaine believes it is no coincidence that each time they entered the caves it was during a full moon, so it is also no coincidence that you have been called here now, just a day before the moon is full again. We both believe that tomorrow night is our best chance to find out why these caves are important and what exactly the gillmen are doing in there."
“The caves we’ll be travelling to lie under the base of the Kortos Mounts. We’ll need to spend every minute of daylight possible to reach the caves by foot, crossing over the Cairnlands, taking the paths to Diobel, and finally making our way through the wilderness. With any luck we won’t run into any of the local inhabitants. Once in the caves, we’ll need to work together to explore and determine whether any gillman are present or have been recently. Keep an eye out for any other clues that might hint at the caves’ significance, too. So, any questions?”
Anyone want to give me a Knowledge (geography) or a Knowledge (History) check?

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I was just wondering if someone could give me a ruling on putting enhancements on specific wayfinders. For example, could you take a Shining Wayfinder and then spend the 2PP needed to add the "Holy Symbol" enhancement to it, or can you only add enhancements to regular wayfinders?

I've been looking for a consistent Pathfinder group in the Evansville/Newburgh IN. area for almost two years now. I'm starting to question whether anyone plays here or not. If you're from Evansville or Newburgh and are looking for a new player for your game, please write a response. I'd be more than willing to join.
