So on one hand, I found I had already made a PL 10 Fusion so I've adjusted with your house rules and her sheet is updated here.

But. But but but.

The "can be from any universe" sank in, as well as the idea that this is time travel and not necessarily cosmic.

So...

I *also* have written up (it may need some tweaking) a version of Maggie Mui, one of the Paper Masters from the R.O.D anime franchise. She's a detective bibliophile who can turn paper into all kinds of animated constructs. Who could be really fun for being the nerd who knows about what time period they're in by having read about it, while also being fairly badass. (Stripping away the fluff of her abilities, she's a mix of summoning and defense). Would that be possibly appropriate for this game? Or would Fusion be a better fit? And/or are OCs preferable to characters based on actual media?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm interested and will probably throw my hat in the ring with Fusion here. She was originally built for an Amalgam game and is sort of a *very* loose cross between Carol Danvers (Ms./Capt. Marvel/Warbird/Binary) and Ronny Raymond (Firestorm) (because why not?). This is a build for a prior game and she'll need some adjusting for the setting here as she is about three power levels too high (but comments are welcome on the appropriateness of the character and/or suggestions on the overall concept).

Welcome back, Reckless

Fusion returns to the group and reports her findings, and asks Slade, "Do you want me to go in that way?"

"I can check underwater. It's a nice side effect of not needing to breathe."

When the group carefully circles around, Fusion will enter the river and swim toward the base, looking for an underwater entrance.

Fusion assists in the research where she can, and only sets Haunt's couch on fire twice. She tries to engage the rest of the team in conversation when she can, before concluding, "God you're a mopey bunch," and turns to bingewatching episodes of "Agent Lane" on Flixtu.

As they discuss their approach to the factory: "So if they're building amphibious vehicles, they're on a coast of some kind. So there's a dock entrance as well as probably a front entrance and a ground-based loading dock. What do we know about less obvious points of entry?"

Fusion chuckles at Wingblade's look of disgust. "What, I thought you liked beer?" She shrugs. "I care what my employer's thinking. If you don't, why are you here?"

She smiles at Quicky. "Well, if the aim is to get more information, I supposed brutalizing people is one way to go about it. Not sure under the circumstances is that's what is most effective. We could go for a capture and interrogate approach though, I suppose. What do you think, Blademaster?"

"Fair enough. Gideon's the target. So that goes back to what I noted earlier... all this sounds like investigative ops stuff--important, don't get me wrong. But why did Waller hire a team of cannons and tanks to do it? I know a few of you can be more than sneaky, but..." Fusion shrugs and looks at herself. "Well, I guess what I really want to know is what I'm doing here. Maybe I misunderstood and all I was hired to do was drive the bus. But odd in that case you couldn't get a pilot who doesn't melt the runway under her feet."

Was waiting for an answer to a question from Haunt, but may as well continue

Fusion nods at Slade, and picks up can of beer. She opens the can and makes the liquid inside evaporate into beer scented steam floating around her. "So what's next? Gideon? Or investigate Brinedart more? He's interested in one of our own for whatever reason. That's a problem."

Bought Fusion another rank in Flight to make her fly a little faster.

Fusion frowns at Haunt. "What you went through must have been awful," she adds, trying to be sympathetic, then adds, "But what makes you think he's back? Let alone, working with his former enemies?"

Shayera:
Fusion raises an eyebrow at the "marry" comment, but also sees the girl doesn't want to discuss it and decides to say nothing more.

In the present

"I hear you, Quicky. Most of us are blast cannons and this appears to be a complex situation requiring pinpoint lasers. Most of our skills would work best after the Atlanteans start whatever war they appear to be trying to manufacture---but the trick is, it would be a Very Bad Thing if they start a war and we need to stop that."

She folds her glowy blue arms behind her glowy blue head. "It's interesting though that the Atlanteans are supplying yet another weapons supplier. The next step, which is far less interesting than punching things, would be to find out what who Gideon is supplying."

She pauses. "Also, we've got two enemies of someone called 'Mystery Man' involved in this? What's going on there?"

with Shayera:

Fusion shrugs. "I was hoping you could tell me. Even if you don't know, and as weird as it is, I wouldn't discount it. This was in Brinedart's offices--designed as a presentation--this isn't a funtime project, this is an indication someone or something that looks like you is a person of interest to our enemies, AND is sharing your face with other people. If we figure out why Brinedart is interested with you--or why you think you're tied to this ancient Egyptian whatsit--it might help us.

"Anyway, we need to turn this over to Slade, but I wanted you to see it before it ended up in our mission reports."

That works!

Since we seem to have suddenly jumped in time: I want to note Fusion would bring the information she found to Shayera first and let her comment/react before Fusion presented it to the group. She would indeed report it but would want to checkin with Shayera beforehand.

Oops, missed the confirmation earlier

"I've found something interesting myself. I'm going back outside."

Fusion carefully grabs the papers from the printers (Do not burn or melt, do not burn or melt, do not burn or melt), looks to be sure she left everything otherwise as she left it, and goes back outside.

Did I get the pages printed?

Fusion whispers over her comm. "What's going on guys? You've been quiet."

In the office

If there is a printer hooked up to the computer in the same room, Fusion will hit control-P, hopefully printing the display that is being projected.

Interesting choice of presentation for a business, Fusion muses to herself as she takes a closer look at the princess and scans the news feeds, hoping to see the connection between the two.

Out of curiosity, Fusion takes note of whatever gods the masks are of (eagle-head, cat-head, etc.) and then, careful to be sure her usual energy aura is inactive, jiggles the computer terminal's mouse to see if the machine is on.

Fusion nods at Slade. "If there's no good place for me to go, I'll come back to this point and keep a lookout."

She flies away from the group to the back of the building, keeping an eye out for anyone who might spot her. She looks for windows on an upper floor that she can look into and see if anyone is inside. If she sees no one in a given room, she'll melt through the wall and go inside.

If she can find no safe access she returns.

"I can either keep a lookout or melt through a wall or the roof and see what I can find while you're elsewhere. What would you prefer?"

"Roger." Fusion nods at Slade and flies up, staying high and at an angle where it would be hard for Fredericks' car to spot her.

Do we know what generally lies to the north and south? E.g., toward a docks district, the highway, a small town, a park, the middle of nowhere, etc.?

Hearing the call to move over the commlink, Fusion "swims" through the ground away a bit, then once she's sure she's out of any of the bad guys' sight, flies out to rejoin the group.

I'd still appreciate a recap. I know the thread's not that long but a two sentence summary of what our focus is would be helpful to be sure our sense of what we're supposed to be doing is the same.

Looks like we're starting up again. Reckless, would you mind a quick recap to be sure we're all on the same page? Thanks!

Happy new year!

I always get together with friends, and we eat too much food and yes, play games, and stay up and watch the ball drop. Sometimes folks do rocking parties, sometimes just a quite stay-up-late-movie-night, but it's all fun.

Sounds like I'll be seeing y'all in Jan. No hurt feelings if it went the other way, but I appreciate being kept involved. :)

Well, there's also option C, which I (think I) also offered to Reckless:

Y'all start now and I just don't rejoin the game at all. (In which case I am sure Reckless can provide you other transportation options.)

I'd like to join in, but I know I'm about to get busy in a few days, and that busy-ness is going to last for a few weeks more or less. Any free time I find is going to have to go to the PBP I am already running and another one I've been in for a few years now. I know to add a third thing on my plate at this time just would not work for me.

I don't want to ruin any body's fun (or "throw off the rhythm") so if the best thing for me is to bow out, that's what I'll do.

Hi folks -- don't wait on my account. I'll see you in the New Year, looks like!

Still checking in, but Fusion didn't hear or witness what happened, and no one has reported it, she is still waiting either from a signal from the party to act or movement from the bad guy to do anything.

BTW, finally got around to writing a more fleshed out version of her backstory, which is on her character sheet.

Since they have to wait, Fusion moves around the perimeter a bit, staying "submerged" in the ground to try and stay as concealed as possible, to get the best sense of the layout, including getting a sense different ways their foes might enter or leave.

Fusion finds an obscured place to land. "Melting" the ground directly under her feet, she lets herself sink so only she is above ground from the ears up while watching and waiting for the signal to act.

"Don't give me ideas," Fusion chuckles to Shayera. "But the lady who alters everything's molecular structure probably shouldn't carry the guy who can destabilize his own molecular structure anyway. So I guess you're on your own locomotion, Haunt."

She nods to Slade. "Let's do it." She flies off to the position reported, dodging where she can between buildings to hide herself from view where possible.

"I think anyone on this team can be considered 'adult' for our purposes, and it's Blademaster who gives the orders," Fusion chides.

Fusion does some quick calculations in her head, observing Slade destroy the poor defenseless cinder blocks. "So these would not only do some physical damage to things, they could use these for some brutal breaking and entering into any number of facilities or vehicles. It's amazing just how much water it shoots out..."

When she analyzed the device, could she determine where it's getting all the water from? Does it ever run out of "charge" as it were?

"As Haunt says, we should probably get back in soon after making this much noise."

Flying backwards in relation to the force of the weapon, Fusion lets out a "Whoof!"

Shutting the weapon off before she drenches half of Manhattan, she comments. "These things pack a punch. They really are like a firehose." She looks at Wingblade and Slade. "You two would be better candidates for holding onto it."

Fusion shrugs at Haunt and points at Wingblade, who is already arcing through the air. "She started it," she says with a grin, and carefully focusing to be sure the burny destructive ouchy parts of her body are not active, she hands him the trident (presuming he is willing), wraps her arms around Slade's waist and with a grunt, she lifts off and follows Shayera. "Not getting fresh, boss, I promise." She teases.

Finding a spot to put Slade on a roof, she takes the trident back from him (again presuming he is willing) and flies a little higher up, waiting for Shayera to finish the flight show. "Showoff," she teases Shayera.

"Okay, here we go!" Pointing at a fairly safe, blank space at an angle toward the sky (she is not shooting straight up, of course), she activates the trident.

As Shayera shoots excitedly out of the window, Fusion holds her hand out to Slade. "You want a lift, then? We're taking the scenic route."

Fusion grins at Wingblade. "Sure, but we better find a place where we don't accidentally firehouse anyone." She nods toward Slade, "If that's okay with you, Blademaster."

"Accidental death of young rich wife whose parents committed suicide. I'm sure that's entirely exactly what happened," Fusion remarks sardonically as she hears the information on Brinedart.

She points at the trident. "I figured out how to make it go. Can I keep one? Might be handy if I accidentally start any fires."

How long ago were the companies registered?

As they begin to work in effort to gather information, Fusion takes another look at the trident and also assists in computer research to see what they can dig up.

Technology - analyzing trident: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Technology - research: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31

FYI I may be offline for a couple days, and also have a bit of a busy weekend. Will check in when I can, but may be sporadic.

Any answers to Fusion's questions?

ETA: Ninjaed by several of you... kept coming back and forth to the computer while typing

Fusion frowns at Shayera's outburst, but beyond looking concerned, does nothing when she sees the woman recover quickly.

"Wingblade's question is a good one."

She shifts weight from one foot to the other. "I have stupider questions, but I'd rather get them out of the way: Hammerdown is known SOMEWHERE as a transport organization, or no one would have recongized the logo, and you mentioned Brinedart is 'Incorporated.' This would suggest that at least SOMEWHERE they're registered as businesses. I would presume Maryland and New York would be states to start with. Do we have that information? Even if it's all phony, anything that might be traceable is a start.

"Likewise--they're moving in and out in vans on the streets. So do we have closed circuit camera footage of the vans, where we might get a sense of where they come from and where they go after they leave the warehouse? Even a vague general direction?"

ETA She nods at Quicky. "Scouting works too, but knowing where to get the best vantage would be a help."

"Pardon me if I missed this, but do we know what the weapons are FOR? Who is using them, against what?"

Fusion shifts, leaning against the wall. She then stumbles when the portion of the wall she's touching begins to bubble and melt. She pulls away quickly, and fortunately a few seconds later the wall resolidifies, and she flashes Grayson an apologetic look. "Anyway, also do we have anything on this Destine? He apparently knows Quicky, might know the rest of us too. We need to balance those scales."

I am okay with changing things to meeting at Grayson's apartment, and I do feel we need to get the whole group together so we can really start getting a feel for each other as a team.

THAT SAID--the desire to be sure we are kept together in general is much appreciated, but I am also aware I built my character with a few innate and obvious drawbacks to her powerset. I did this as I thought it was interesting to play, but did not intend to make it a problem for the whole party or make her a burden. I will NOT, generally speaking, feel left out if Fusion's participation in a certain scene is limited or altered. She should not, for example, be part of a sneaky scouting expedition---but she certainly can be a distraction to help keep the enemies' watchful eyes away from the sneaky scouts. :)

In this particular case I am okay with doing whatever's needed to get us together because again, I think we need to get us all on the same page and get the show on the road... but in general, I am not going to feel hurt or excluded by party splitting if and when necessary.

Sorry, the whole idea is that she's been merged with a cosmic energy source. If she's "put out" it probably means she's dead.

But Fusion can wait outside and masquerade as a lamppost.

Fusion shakes her head at Slade. "Sorry, this light of mine can't be put under a bushel as it were. But I presume if Waller asked me to join the team she didn't expect me to participate in subterfuge."
