Background:

John Castile.
Son of a long lived Sicilian family that has been around since antiquity, and has been involved with mysteries, cults, and criminal activity for generations. Little John, as he was called by the Family, was not in the family business, not in any of his crazy Aunts religious cults; not in his mad uncle's strange and hushed "experiments" not in any of it; and of course without any direct connection to any of those protective influences; John was a loner, and as a loner he was picked on by gangs, picked on my kids whose parents were police; picked on by religous fanatics; generally picked on by everyone. He was just a good kid, who minded his own business, but became a good fighter and inside smouldered one hot temper. Things were tough; as he got older, life got tougher. He tried to get away from it all; the Family; the Police; the religous fanatics; the bullies; at 16; he got a motorcycle and rode and rode into uncharted paths; he didnt care where, but that is when they found him. John's recollection is foggy; oblong shaped disk appeared above him; his cycle lost power; a beam from above; fragmented memories of little purple creatures and alien sounds and the pain; the bright light.

When he awoke; he was in handcuffs; secured to a metal hospital bed both arms and legs. The world was blurry; fever dreams; hot flashes; vague memories of being in court; having turned 17; tried as an adult on trumped up charges of automobile theft; arson, assault and battery. John didnt remember any of it; just sickness; pain; something was different; something was very different.

He woke up in prison; doing hard time on trumped up charges; four years then parole if he was good. First weeks he spent in the prison hospital; feeling weird; different. During fever dreams he broke things; twisted hospital beds; broke normal handcuffs; sometimes walls. He gained weight; got bigger; stronger; tougher. The fever broke; the dreams didn’t; they put in back in with the general population, then it happened again; the gangs; the bullies; and the fights. He didn’t even get hurt; just kept fighting till nobody was standing. Then the government arrived, new people; nameless people with sunglasses and suits and brief cases; said he wasn’t safe in prison, wasn’t safe for other prisoners; it was either work for them or go to a new; special prison. John took the job; welcome to life as a hero. Codename: Fortress

Advancement direction
The first manifestation of the shield ability is growing the new power inside John of Create Object; solid objects of force like force walls, platforms, mazes and domes adventually growing into the ability to make an area complete with atmosphere and such; like a biodome which might come in handy if the party gets stuck on the moon or on the sea floor or some other hostile environment.
