Hah, I actually was putting Flenn's family as living in the River Kingdoms (at least at one point, I was planning to have them move to wherever is convenient, or maybe Absalom). Small world?

Alright, I'm gonna try the random dice rolls on this site to figure out what's going on with Flenn.

Step 1: Childhood:

Race: Human, Half-Elf, or Aasimar? 1d3 ⇒ 1 Human!
Homeland?: 1d100 ⇒ 22 Town/Village
Parents?: 1d100 ⇒ 4 Both alive
Siblings?: 1d100 ⇒ 82 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 siblings
Circumstance of Birth: 1d100 ⇒ 49 Middle-Class Birth
Parents' Profession: 1d100 ⇒ 10 Serfs/Peasants? Reroll required...
Parents' Profession Reroll: 1d100 ⇒ 91 Merchants. More like it.
Major Childhood Event: 1d100 ⇒ 67 Raiders!

A human, born to merchants in a village. 6 siblings...
6d100 ⇒ (58, 88, 15, 69, 100, 19) = 349 2 older, 3 younger, and he's got a twin.
Raiders hit the town when he was young, but both his parents are still alive.

Step 2: Adolescence and Training:

Class: Alchemist, Bard, Fighter, Gunslinger, Monk, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, or Witch? 1d9 ⇒ 5 Monk...
Class Background: 1d100 ⇒ 9 Secret Student...
Influential Associate: 1d100 ⇒ 3 The Criminal!

He's a monk (probably a drunken master, to keep with the whole bartender thing), who was a secret student and associated with a criminal!

Step 3: Moral Conflicts, Relationships, and Drawbacks:

Conflict: 1d20 ⇒ 17 Armed Robbery!
Conflict Subject: 1d20 ⇒ 15 Lover/Former Lover...
Conflict Motivation: 1d10 ⇒ 1 Justice...
Resolution: Sincere Regret.
Deity: Cayden Cailean!
Romantic Relationships: 1d12 ⇒ 3 A few relationships.
Character Drawback: 1d100 ⇒ 82 The Past...

He committed armed robbery against a former lover out of justice, and regrets it sincerely. Now a worshiper of Cayden Cailean, he's only had a few significant relationships in the past, and he longs for the bygone days of yore...

This'll be much more interesting to work with.

Edit Note: If you check me, some of the rolls are off due to how the forums do random dice when you add them in or take them out. I promise that I did everything I could in order, then rerolled as needed, though, so everything here is (or at least was) legitimate.

2nd Edit: Thinking rather than Drunken Master (because I don't really like the mechanics) I'll do a Flowing Monk, flavored as a drunken master.

Yep, that was odd. I did like that his major event was having died, though--adds a neat touch to the character.

"Tha'? Tha's a scratch, I tell ye! When I was but a kid, I got m'self kilt, and I din' whine 'bout it none, nuther, 'r I's like to git a crack in th'ead from m' dear pa!"

An eidolon bartender would be hilarious.

Hrm. My first shot at randomly generating a background produced some interesting, some good, some bad. Apparently ol' Flenn blackmailed a child because of religion ("Which don't sound like me at all!").

I'll figure it out, still haven't decided on a class, though I kinda like the idea of a Sensei monk, reflavored to be a barkeep brawler who's always letting the young'uns know what it was like in his day.

Alright, Viscount and Peanuts, you can let the Paizo people know that I've become intrigued enough by the rules that I splurged and bought the Ultimate Campaign PDF. CURSE YOU, CURIOSITY, FOR YOU SUCK ALL THE MONIES FROM MY POSSESSION!!!

Anyway, once that finishes downloading I'll check it out and see if it sparks anything good.

-Flenn: Sure, works for me. If you don't like the Ultimate Campaign rules, though, then this may not be the game for you, as giving those a test drive is a pretty big portion of the point.

Hah, you didn't understand. When I said I dunno about those rules, I mean that I really don't know about them. Like, at all. I haven't bought the book, and haven't gone looking for the rules anywhere online. As such, it'd all be new to me!

If that's an issue, no problem, I can step out. But just letting you know, I really have no idea exactly what they are :)

Dunno 'bout the Ultimate Campaign rules, exactly, but this looks like a game where this NPC could be a PC (albeit not as awesome).

Whoa! Hold your mole rats, everyone! We have to hit Gameplay first!...Which it looks like we're ready to do soon.

"No point, I'm afraid," Flenn informs Darius about the basement. "Sure, it might still have some tech down there, but all the good stuff's been looted."

Flenn eyes Skeck sideways. "I have some gin, and the tonic's a little dirty, but I think you'll be okay from it. You been around here before? Don't remember seeing you. Got a name?" The barkeep sets the glass down and goes about mixing the drink before giving it to the new arrival.

To Fitz, Flenn nods and pulls out a small flask of whiskey, pouring it into a glass and giving it to the hunter. "No tell more than the usual banter of wanderers in the Wastes. Careful out there, eh?"

He looks at the motley group of men and ghouls, scratching his chin. "Well, heading to the Vault isn't a bad plan, but I'd suggest you wait. I'm thinking that you might get something in it for you once the guard show up."

Language is up to the others, but it's my opinion that everyone here is mature enough to be playing, so hopefully we can stand a little cursing. I'm fine with #$*%&@#% if you would like to do that, or you can be a little more blatant with just what he's saying.

"Maybe," Flenn says. "Here you go, Gergg. Lemme know if you ever want something stronger, little old one! Hehe." Flenn chuckles as he calls the ghoul by the nickname he's given him, and goes back to polishing the glass.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"Flenn, Strongut they call me," the bartender nods as Darius speaks. "On account of drinking everyone else in town under the table." He cocks his head for a moment, then nods again. "Being broke's a shame, and not something you usually want to be 'round here. You from a Vault?" Flenn asks with a gesture to Darius' Milpip-Boy.

He looks around for a moment, then leans in closer. "As for something to do for caps, you didn't hear this from me, but..."

Darius:
"...I've heard rumors of trouble in one of the old Vaults not too far from here. Maybe if you get a chance to check that out, there'd be something in it for you."

Flenn nods to the scrawny man as he requests his meal. "Certainly, Winter. One steak and some whiskey coming right up." Flenn takes a moment to look at Darius. "And for you... some Scotch, I think. Atoms ain't been smashed around here for almost a hundred years."

The bar of the club is dingy, with dust in the air and rubble still around the edges. Despite the cleaning that's gone into it, it's still obvious that the place was at least somewhat hit during the War. However, if you look closely, you can also still see the remains of what it must have looked like before the bombs fell--an intricate design on the bottom of a pillar here, the dull shards of a mirror there.

The bar itself is a big wooden construction, stretching about fifteen feet. While the glass behind it that once held magnificent cases of liquor was long ago smashed, the bar has been repaired as best as possible, and the barkeep himself, a tall, lean man with corded muscle, looks content to work here.

As you sidle up to the bar, you see him polishing a glass that, in spite of the surrounding environment, is already shining. He looks at you with one eye, the other remaining fixed on the glass, and then gives a slight grin and sets his "work" down. "What'll you have, stranger?" he asks.

If you've lived in the area for some time, feel free to call Flenn by name and remind him of who you are. This thread will be for preliminary roleplaying until the game starts, as well as out-of-game but in-character talks and any OOC chatter and questions for me. Please try and remember to format your posts so that I know what needs answering and what's just for fun, thanks!

Yix:
"Be on the ready, Yix." Flenn whispers to you as he hands over a mug of tea and polishes the tankard. "I've gotten word that you and your fellows may have a mission soon."

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"Yix, ye know how 'tis here!" Flenn calls from the bar. "Ye want a drink, ye kin damn well git up here and git it yerself!"

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Yix:
"What do you mean? I have more patrons than the Brotherhood and the Order, you know that. In their case, it's a group of local men, but you may find a friend of yours in their midst."

In case you're wondering, no, you don't get to make a check to hear Flenn's response. He's too good.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn approaches gruffly, catching the last snatch of conversation. "Aye, that it be, young masters," Flenn says with a nod, squatting down to hear Yix. "Ain't much happenin' of late, 'cept fer me gettin' out from behind the bar. An' what'll I've been doin' that fer?" the tavernmaster asks with a pointed look at the catfolk.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"Tha's good, little master," Flenn says with a wink as Ahk hands over the weapons. Flenn easily grabs the lot of them in one large hand, placing them under the bar. "What'll ye be havin' then, Ahk?"

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"There y'ar," Flenn grins as he hands the water to Grantar. "Innit funny how ye like the rocks, eh?" Flenn shakes his head and continues to polish the tankard.

Grantar:
I don't have a special one in mind. If you think there should be, let me know any suggestions you have. In the games, the Templars' mantra is "May the Father of Understanding guide us." But I don't think that fits so well here.

Cool bartenders, innkeepers, tavernmasters, etc. Not just Old Alf at the bar. Guys who know what they're talking about and can actually be helpful.

And who aren't just statted out as 3rd-9th level fighters/warriors/experts/commoners. C'mon.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn sees Yix's wink, and overhears their conversation. He grins back for a moment, then returns to polishing the already shining tankard.

Thanks, Yix. I wanted to go with something other than the stereotypical broad, bearded guy in an apron. Flenn is still plenty active, both mentally and physically, and he can kick ass if required... which may well show up in gameplay on occasion.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn nods to Raikdar. "Aye, that I'll be havin'. Ye're likin' it the usual way then, yes?" Flenn also pours him some tea, but even while seemingly occupied with his work, the tavernmaster notices the exchange of sight between Raikdar and the Brothers.

When Raikdar comes up to get his food and drink, Flenn whispers to him...

Raikdar:
"Now, you know the rules here son," Flenn says, his accent and jovial demeanor gone. "You hate those Brothers more than anyone I know, but there's no violence or unpleasantness here."

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

Flenn nods to the catfolk, cooking the fish exactly as he likes it and pouring his favorite wine into the glass. "Yix," he mutters as he hands the meal to the Brother. "You remember the rules."

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"Ah yes," Flenn nods with a small smile. "Master Shatterstorm, good to see ye again. Stout an' bread, izzit? I'll have it to ye in but a moment, little master."

I'm assuming you have no secret identity here.

Male Human, Taldan Tavernmaster ∞

"What'll ye be havin' then, little master?" the tavernmaster asks as the halfling walks by. The man is polishing an already shiny tin tankard. With barely a glance at the small fellow, the man also says in a lower voice, "You know the rules here, I presume?" His friendly, wharf accent is gone, his tone all business. "You show any trouble, you get thrown out, and I've thrown out half-orcs and their like before. Little one like you is no trouble."

He winks then, a little disconcertingly changing his manor right back. "Ye're welcome here in the Twin Shade Tavern, little master! All're welcome under Flenn Strongut's roof."
