Hi Guys. Sorry for the extended period of silence. This time it was nothing to do with my inability to manipulate technology but my inability to not catch a horrible gastric infection. I won't say any more except that my new year's resolution to loose a couple of stone before march has already been achieved ! I'll be posting an update tomorow and then all should be well (for those who aren't reptillian chow that is !)

Excellent. Seems that not too many others are interested though... :( We may also have a slot opening in the initial campaign (player AWOL) so do you want to be kept in mind for that if it comes up ?
Hi I was thinking of running a 'companion campaign' to the Shackled City campaign I'm already running as a PBP on the Paizo boards. It would be set in Sasserine (a Port which is mentioned in the first Adventure Path but not detailed) which I fleshed out for the ongoing campaign and don't want to stop using. I was thinking of running it concurrently with my other campaign with events in one perhaps impacting on the other. It would have a more 'political' theme and would suit players that like interaction with words as much as weapons. I'm posting to gauge interest with an eye to starting towards the end of January. Perhaps the best thing to do is check out the 'Flamifur's Shackled City thread and then post if you are interested.
Yep. I am. Apologies but work took over my life for nearly a week and everything slipped my tiny mind ! However, I notice that someone else has shown interest on the discussion thread (I think) so I'm quite willing to bow gracefully out to 'develop my other projects' - things are about to get sticky in the PBP I'm running. Again, apologies if I've messed you guys up.

To be honest, I wanted the encounter to 'leave a nasty taste in the mouth' rather than start a fight so it seems to have worked ! Which is nice !

Man! I've been under fire once or twice when I was younger but that's nothing compared to the situation you found yourself in ! I'm glad you came though it ok.
thereal thom wrote: Flamifur, I was chatting in Rogue's discussion thread and mentioned that this PbP may be setting a record for role play to roll play ratio. How is this game working out for you? It may be good that we're a low maintainence group, but are you getting what you want out of it? I'm enjoying this game very much. Tee-Hee ! Maybe I'm lulling you into a false sense of security....... Seriously, I'm just trying to play to want you guys seem to want. I think the group works really well and I've spent most of my time feeling guilty for not posting enough. That is about to change............... As far as the 'record' is concerned - I think it's a by-product of my personl take on roleplaying in general and D&D in particular. I love dungeon bashing as much as the next guy but what I really like is a really good reason to go dungeon bashing, and that comes from real Role playing - character developement, background, interaction with each other and NPCs, believable motivations and as much imagination as you can muster. The game needs to fit around the characters - they need to be a real part of the story. All that being said - I am looking forward to seeing just how much damage Stilgar can dish out in a couple of combat rounds if some makes him 'angry'.

The weather over here is cold, cold, cold ! Finally, all is well and I have updated the Play Thread. I'm just doing something 'unpleasant' to Stilgar and Nik and then I'll be throwing you guys into the jungle (no cheese in sight). Could everyone update their character sheets with their new weapons, etc please. Also, could everyone make it clear what languages they can speak as well. I'm off to create the next bit of Narration
I've Just had a mad 2 days which (included my computer deciding to try and destroy itself again) which is why I haven't posted. I'm so please Erion is back in Psionic Fox's hands and I'm, obviously, even more glad Psionic Fox has surfaced ! I'll get everything going again tomorrow morning (GMT). Probably time to make stuff dangerous...............
Also, whilst I'm navel gazing and bearing in mind that this is the first PBP I've run do we think we're going at a fast enough pace, etc ? I'm trying to give everyone some chances to interact with NPCs as much as they want but I am aware this slows down progress. Some feedback on this would be good. For instance, do you want me to make more of it skill check based so the pace picks up or are we ok with it as it stands ? Let me know.
I'm a little worried now about the dissapearance of Psionic Fox. We've had no posts since the 18th and he hasn't posted anywhere else since then either. I do hope he's ok. In light of this and the fact that the party really needs a Arcanist of some description we need to think about replacing Eerion at some stage. I was going to suggest carrying on as is until the party gets to Cauldron and then talk to our 'subs bench' to see if any of then fancy playing a wizard or the like. At the rate we're going this gives Psionic fox a while to re-surface before we have to make Erion an NPC. I will keep the character around whatever happens - Psionic Fox did a really good job of creating a character I wanted to see develop. What do you guys think ?
Ok, any questions of any sort before we get going ? Post 'em and I'll answer them first thing in the morning. I'm going to start the campaign with you guys landing at the Port of Sasserine so you've spent a few weeks on a ship together. Feel free to chat a bit more in character (I'm keen to know how Zoomackulas joins the group - and what his speech is like!) on this thread and then head over to the gaming thread when you're done. Oh yeah, you'll probably need to wait until I've created the gaming thread - silly me !
Further Information Erion's eyes only: Spoiler: The Sternhost warehouses (the businesses owned by your family) are located in the north eastern quadrant of town, on Obsidian Avenue, near an establishment known as the Cusp of Sunrise. Since the death of the steward your family has had magical correspondance with one Maavu Arlintal a wizard and sucessful merchant who has holdings of equal size in Cauldron. You have no idea what state the business is in but have learned that the Steward had thought of himself as 'semi-retired' for the last decade.
Your research into Cauldron before leaving home brought little to the surface. One thing you did learn from an old gnomish family retainer, Barrulke, was that a Gnomish Enclave once existed beneath the City but was abandoned many years ago in a hurry. Some great evil seems to have befallen the inhabitants of 'Johodrun' and it was evacuated in a matter of days leaving behind a vast store of magic items and a arcane library of a size unrivaled in the City. Barrulke didn't know what the disaster was but apparently several families of Gnomes 'vanished' ! Finally, before you left you were warned by an elder of your house not to stray to close to an area know as 'The Demonskar'. Of old a terrible evil resided there, a Demon Prince, and the area is still tainted with his spawn.
Further Information for Zoomackulas Eyes only: Spoiler: Rumour has it that Cauldron, despite it's relative smallness as a city has a thieves guild of a size and influence few larger cities have. It is known as The Last Laugh and it is said that nothing underhand goes down in Cauldron without them knowing about it. They have a hand in most illegal activity in the region including smuggling, prostitution, narcotics, slavery, assassination and similar skullduggery.
One source you spoke to in Gradsul said they were so powerful (and so sure of their power) they even minted their own coin and he claimed had one or two to prove it ! But he never turned up for your arranged meeting and further, noone had seen hide nor hair of him buy the time you left the port. However, despit their size and underground reputation, you have been unable to find out any more about them.
Niklaus Wright wrote: Flamifur any hints as to useful favored enemies? Animals make the most sense for young Nik. Also, IS the Greyhawk pantheon Obad Hai, Falargn (sp?) , Wee Jas etc. Nik should have a loose connection to a neutral nature type deity, and one with an interest in travel. Sorry, Just realised I had never answered this question. Radavel answered the Pantheon part. Animal would be a good general choice. However, I always allow ranger characters to choose their first favoured enemy after the campaign has started but before gaining a level - then you get to make a more relevant choice. You are constrained to choosing a type or organisation you've encountered in play and will have to spend a day or two doing research but they're the only drawbacks. Hope this helps.
Hi Guys Here's what you all know about Cauldron: - Small City built inside an extinct volcano. - Located about 100 miles inland of the Port City of Sasserine. Sasserine is situated at the very southernmost shore of Jeklea Bay in the World of Greyhawk, where the Hellfurnaces (mountains) meet the Amedio Jungle. - Founded over 500 years ago by a Wizard known as Surabar. - Elected authority in the town is held by Lord Mayor Severen Navalant. - Nominally Part of the domain of the Sea Princes or the Sea Princes' territory seized by the Scarlet Brotherhood during the Greyhawk Wars. However, has a military 'agreement' with The Kingdom of Keoland. - Most of it's wealth comes from the plantations and mines of the area and towns around it. Rumour has it that there are countless ruined enclaves and dungeons beneath it. - The southernmost city in the Flanaess. Despite the city being quite populous and cosmopolitan the area around it is true frontier land.
Wow. Interesting rolls. I'm working on a number of big posts to start us off tonight/tomorrow (depending on where in the world you are) so keep you eye's for the Gaming thread soon. I'll post the results of your successful gather info rolls in this thread before starting the other - not that there'll be much to post ;) Eichendar I need you to post a little bit of background/description for Zoo asap - it'll help with some 'surprises' I'm working on.

I'm waiting for Eichendar to finish his character. When that's done I need to work out a few bit's n pieces based on your collective character backgrounds, etc. And then we'll be off. We're already off buy the looks of this 'discussion' thread :) I'f we haven't started by Monday I'll be surprised - as long as you guys can wait that long !!! Actually, just to get things moving and make sure everyone is ok with using Invisible Castle, I'd like you all to make one gather information check to see what rumours and scuttlebut you've heard about Cauldron.
