I'm not sure how height affects distance and I've gotten as close as I can in one movement. Solar Shot is a cap of 30' range, not a range increment. If I'm not close enough to hit with Solar Shot, I'll instead draw my Boom Pistol and fire off a shot. Same mods and damage dice, just sonic damage instead of fire, and I obviously wouldn't be raising my shield.

Since Beast B dealt Faraday melee damage while he's graviton-attuned✦, Nimbus Surge ↺ activates and it needs to roll a Fort save against his class DC or be pushed 5 feet away. (The fire damage is only for photon-attunement). I'm guessing had it failed, it would have used an action to step back into range? It's moot since only the first attack hit hit me, but for next time anyway.
