Fabian says to Arlena, "It is commendable to hope for redemption. If we can redeem somebody, it only strengthens our cause. I hope you are prepared, however, if it's not possible to redeem here. Sometimes, alas, it is not psosible."

I agree with the plan of questioning Nurah again every night. Fabian will use Detect Thoughts (either with a 2nd level slot, or with a mythic point) to evesdrop on Nurah's thoughts during any interrogation.

Fabian make sure that Muriel is in a safe place before the battle begins.

He spends some time with his spellbook to prepare "Fly" in an open third level slot.

As the battle is joined, he spends the first five minutes of it flying invisibly overhead, hoping to provide some aerial recon in order to help Bollwerk's tactics. Before flying, he'll cast Message, including at least Bollwerk (and other PCs who want it), so that he can whisper intelligence back.

(I don't know if it's worth a bonus, but Fabian figured it'd be worth a try!)

Fabian says, "She is an addict. That does not mean she is a traitor. Doubtless it is inevitable that over time our enemies could leverage her addiction into making her a traitor, but we do not know if that has yet to happen. If we can apply a truth-telling enchantment to her, we should question her to find out. In the absence of that, we should immobilize her, making sure she both can't escape and can't harm us if she is in fact a traitor, but treating her with humanity and compassion in case she is still loyal but has an affliction that will take some time, care, and effort to heal."

Hey all -- I'm about 6 messages behind right now. Will try to catch up shortly. I'm on the road at the minute; an unexpected family issue came up two days ago, and my wife and I quickly make travel plans. I'll be travelling for the rest of the week. Fabian nods. "Kazul speaks the truth. We saw her sneaking off. She may not be a spy, but he does have some secrets she's keeping from us that could get her, and the rest of us in trouble. These secrets could well be of the sort that could be used to turn her into a spy as well."

Fabian rushes forward, first making sure that Muriel is OK (priorities, you know!), and then moving towards the spreading pool of blood.

"Curses!" he says. "Can somebody heal her?"

He tries to make her visible so that she will be easier to tend to. Grabbing his staff, he speaks some arcane words, and attempts to dispel the invisibility that is on her.

Targeted dispel with Dispel Magic. CL check, using a mythic power point to add a mythic surge to it: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (11) + 6 + (5) = 22

Fabian sees Kazul and whispers to him, "Muriel followed the halfling to the officer's tent. Something's up there; she doesn't understand what she sees. How are you at sneaking? I can cast an invisibility spell on you to help."

If Kazul wants it, suspecting that the ranger is far sneakier than he is, Fabian will cast Invisibility on him.

For GM:

Fabian says to Muriel, "Follow her. Stay hidden. I will follow behind further. You know how we can feel what each other is feeling? If you think she's about to see me, send me a warning. If you think you're going to get into trouble or danger, I should be able to sense that. Be careful."

Fabian will try to follow behind where Muriel is going, but staying farther back (at least 40-50') so that he will be harder to spot. (Counting on light and distance penalties for stealth, as he only has a +2 to Stealth from Dex (assuming he's leaving heavier parts of his gear behind so he has no encumbrance penalty).

Before he starts, he will cast Darkvision on himself, to eliminate any light penalties. This will last for 5 hours. He has Invisibility prepared, but it won't last nearly as long, so he'll hold on to that until he thinks he might need it.

Muriel will continue to take 10 on Stealth for a result of 18.

(I should dump a skill point into that in a future level, as one skill point will increase Muriel's skill by 4, as it's a class skill for familiars, if I'm not mistaken.)

Fabian says, "There is magic that can catch people red-handed, but it's not perfectly reliable. And, it may be fairly invasive to the rest of you. Let me think on it, and figure out what I can do."

For GM:

Fabian would love to cast Detect Thoughts and start scanning people, but alas he doesn't have that spell in his spellbook.

He will ask Muriel his cat to slink stealthily (looking for love and pets and maybe treats if caught) to spy on pretty much everybody, looking for suspicious behavior, each night at camp. While we're travelling, Muriel will usually be in the familiar satchel, but she'll be out and about at camp.

Muriel has a +8 in Stealth, a +9 in Perception, and a +0 in Sense Motive. Assume she's taking 10 on the first two, but roll the third one if it comes up. Muriel will report back to Fabian regularly; she does have "Speak with Master"

Fabian raises an eyebrow. He looks at Sosiel and Erin. "What is this? What is the meaning of this? What are these vials?"

Does Fabian recognize what they are? He will cast Detect Magic to scan them, but will also base his judgement on scent (without sniffing too deeply; safety first!), appearance, viscosity, etc.

(Take 10 on Spellcraft for 24. Take 10 on Knowledges, which gives 24 for Arcana and Plane, 22 Religion, 21 History, 19 Engineering, and 20 for everything else.)

A think human with piercing blue eyes and a neck-length mop of sandy blond hair steps forward. Wearing just robes and a cloak, he looks rather out-of-place on the battefield, and the expression on his face is a bit out of sorts as well.

"I'm Fabian," he says by way of introduction to the newcomers.

Shaking his head, he looks at his companions. "We've fought a lot in close quarters, and small battles against cultists, but this big battlefield stuff-- it's all a bit overwhelming. I'm still adapting to that. Really more of a scholar, myself...!"

Fabian mostly ducks out of the way of the massive engagement, saving his arcane energies for taking down whatever commanders may be lurking inside the barn or elsewhere. He ride close behind Bollwerk, and dismounts when Bollwerk does.

Fabian rides in alongside Farasha, knowing he is neither stealthy nor one who should be in the thick of it. He has an extended Mage Armor going, and he has Muriel safely enclosed in her familiar satchel. He keeps a sharp eye out for anything unexpected that might bother the army, but also knowing that his group's mission is to move into and clear the buildings, he tries not to worry too much about what's going on back there, and trusts them to do their job.

Fabian looks at the destroyed village with dismaly. "Too much of this recently," he says. "I know that we have other things we must urgently attend to, but I wish there was something we could do right now for the scattered villagers."

As we camp, assuming she is willing, Fabian will converse with Nurah Dendiwhar in order to learn more about Drezen. He'll also want to talk to a fellow arcane practitioner about the new mythic abilities he seems to have acquired, to see if she knows much about them -- for Fabian's first introduction to these things were when he was surprisingly gifted with them.

GM: Fabian might also want to do some scroll scribing as we camp. How much time each day would he have for that? Also, is it OK if I just deduct the cost from my gold, assuming that he had converted the gold into the right inks and papers and such back when we were in Kenbarse?

Perhaps Bollwerk as the General? I doubt any of us have ranks in Profession (Soldier), but he's got a 16 Charisma.

Story-wise, it probably makes sense for Irabeth to be General. Metagame-wise, we might want a PC to do it... :)

I really need to review the Mass Combat rules. I ran a quick version of it with the final game of my Kingmaker game a couple of years ago. (This is the game that ended after book 3 just before I ended, and before Kingmaker really got into mass combat. I threw in a made-up "final climax" to have the campaign come to a reasonable end before I moved.)

Hello Tharasiph, as we do have already a Paladin and a cleric I have the feeling a loladin is not exactly what I think we seek.

A supporter is more the alchemist, investigator, bard route or arcane artillery. That are just my feelings, btw.

I would agree with this. I'm the party wizard, but as an abjurer, I'm not the most artillery of arcane casters. That doesn't mean I don't have lightning bolts up my sleeves, and I also am taking tiers in Archmage.

What would be best would be a skill monkey sort of person, in terms of mechanics. Most important, though, is somebody who will play well with the GM and the rest of the group.

"You will be going with us, I presume?" Fabian asks the cat which woke up at his feet, and now seems to be following him around. (Anybody else watching just sees Fabian seem to meow at the cat.)

Muriel the cat just sits down and looks away, licking one paw, not deigning to answer.

"I'll take that as a yes...."

During the hour before we leave, Fabian will find a merchant in town who is able to sell him a familiar satchel. He knows that his new familiar will want to travel in style.

When they meet the Queen, he will also stand at attention doing whatever is appropriate (take 10 on Knowledge (Nobility) for 20), waiting to hear what the Queen has to say.

When the attack happened, we fell into a gash in the earth, but the silver dragon Terendelev reached out and, as his dying action, saved some of us. We are only doing what we can in order to live up to this boon we were granted, to protect Mendev, and hopefully to stop the spread of the Worldwound throughout Avistan now that the wardstones seem to have failed."

"We also..." Fabian hesitates before saying this, for it smacks of hubris. "We, or at least I, have received visions from what seems to be Iomedae herself."

Fabian also drops to one knee as the Queen comes into the room. The Queen! He had never expected to meet her directly... but clearly the entire world has changed, or at least his part of the world.

In addition to searching for his mother, Fabian has some more scribing he wants to do in his spellbook. He may also seek out other spellcasters who have spellbooks that he can trade with, so as to augment his collection of spells. If there's any time remaining, he may also scribe some scrolls. He could easily spend several days doing all of this.... I'll be more precise when I find out just how much time we'll really have.

"Indeed, there is much work to be done." Fabian says in response. The wizard now seems to have a black cat following him around. When Fabian stops to talk, the cat curls up at his feet and starts licking a paw.

"I am eager to rebuild, and to track down the further threats we heard about. I don't know if anybody else had a .... dream, if that's what it was. I saw Iomedae herself, and was infused with a sort of light. I also seem to have awoken feeling more... potent, somehow. I'm not sure what happened, but I can only interpret it as Iomedae's wish that I go out and continue to fight the crusade."

"Also, and I think this is connected, but when I woke up, this cat was at the feet of my bed. She awoke, and told me that her name was Muriel."

Fabian looks up at anybody who may be looking at him funny for suggesting that a cat talked to him. "What?"

When he gets a chance, he will also inquire around to see if anybody has had any news of his adpotive mother -- whether she's been found, and if so, where she is, or, if not if her body has been found.

One thing players can do to help speed things up is to indicate in their posts conditions under which they'll use interrupt actions. With Deadly Dodge, Kazul could indicate things like "if X or Y attacks me, I'll force a reroll, otherwise I'll take an opportunity attack".

Fabian tries to take a couple of demons out of the combat so that his friends can focus on fewer at once. He raises his staff, and casts a spell, opening up an interdimensional pit.

Casting Create Pit under two or three demons at a spot where no party members will be next to it. Reflex save DC is 16.

Feeling the healing energies surge through him, and seeing the others' wounds heal, Fabian suspects that the grace of Iomedae is with them, and he changes his usual tactics -- focusing on defense first, doing things such as activating his protective ward -- and goes on the offensive. He picks one of the Babau's that has already been wounded and targets it with a magic missile. Holding up his staff, three golden bolts of magical force shoot out at it.

Sorry! Had a con last weekend, and I'm running a table in the PbP special that just started. I've been focusing on that, and have fallen behind in everything else.

Fabian looks at the images passing by in his mind with wonder. The Hand of the Inheritor! He feels Iomedae's divine power (for that's what he believes this to be) surging through him.

When the Babau's appear, his combat instincts kick back in. He raises his staff and speaks some arcane words. When he finishes, the others in the room feel their reactions improving.

Casting Haste. Can affect five targets. He'll hit the others in his party, and Irabeth, but exclude himself.

Trapped in the back, Fabian activates the Scale of Terendelev that he has, engaging its levitation effect. He rises himself to the ceiling, and pulls himself along in the stairwell, but not so far as to reach the front lines. His goal is to get about 10' behind the front lines, so that he can activate his Protective Ward and have it help protect the people who might actually be fighting the minotaur.

Everybody remember you have Haste up, which gives a bonus to AC, a faster move, and an additional attack if you use the Full Attack action.

"That's not good!" Fabian says, rather redundantly.

If he is able to include all of them in the area, he will cast Haste on Bollwerk, Kazul, Farasha, Sjurd, and himself. (Did I forget somebody? If so, target them, and omit himself.)

This will give everybody a +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC; remember that dodge bonuses do stack. Your move speed increases by 30ft, to a maximum of double your normal move speed. Finally, if you make a full attack, you get one additional attack with a natural or manufactured weapon.

If, on the other hand, he isn't able to include everybody in the effect of the spell, he'll delay until it looks like he can.

Fabian quickly tries to grab the books that look most important to the defense of Kenbares, and looks at the maps to see if there is any intel there on what the cultists and demons are doing.

Seeing the landing clear, Fabian moves up to the top of the staircase. He peeks around the corner, sees the cultist there, and fires off his wand of magic missiles at it.
