Sorry if the answer is a "Duh, yes." but I'm new to subscriptions. . .

I was thinking about getting a PACG subscription, but I do not want the player character mats.

I don't want to assume they're part of the subscription, but I'm guessing that they are.

I would really like to have the promo cards that come with the subscription adventure decks, but I do not want to pay an extra $40 for purely cosmetic items due to having a subscription.

Money is tight, you know? $15ish every month or so, I can do, but almost random extra $40 here and there is a bit much for my budget, I'm sad to say. :-\

... should've searched before posting. Sorry! Here's Vic saying they're not part of the subscription:

Hi All, here is the first 1/3 of my poorly fated Solo Lem Adventure. Enjoy!

Brigandoom!

The sun rose red as Lem and his companion, a quiet troubadour, approached the Farmhouse, through its easterly fields. Lem shuddered and urged his horse (named Walker for her ever leisurely pace) through the high crops a bit quicker. With a whinny, Walker acquiesced.

Turn 1
((Cast detect magic, encounter and defeat exploding runes))
Things were ominously quiet, to the short bard --no field hands worked, despite the cock’s crowing. He murmured a few words to himself, gestured in the direction he thought the farmhouse to be and closed his eyes. The gesture paid off, as the fields just ahead erupted: explosive runes shattered the eerie quiet with a fusillade of fire. A frightened murder of crows fled the field for the sky, and as the runes spent themselves, strange shadows danced on the road.

((1st exploration: shadow bane))
The troubadour shouted, clawing at his legs, seemingly trying to remove his pants. The dancing shadows from the smoldering, exploded, field were wrapping themselves around his legs, crawling up him.

((cast lightning touch to kill the shadow))
Wide eyed, Lem made a quick hand gesture and spat at the troubadour --lightning licked between Lem’s tongue and the troubadour --with a thunderclap, the living shadows dissipated.

((discard troubadour for exploration, encounter a Sneak))
“You, sir,” are too dangerous to spend time with.” Cried the troubadour, who turned around and without another word left Lem and Walker to continue on their own.

((Fail the perception check, then recharge knife to narrowly defeat the bane))
Walker had trotted not five steps further before a sneak fell upon them, its knife catching lem in the shoulder before he knew what was happening. Walked bucked the thief off and landed two hooves on squarely on his chest, caving it fatally.

Turn 2:
((Move to the Woods, cast cure before exploring))
Lem, badly wounded and suddenly alone, spent a few moments huddled, rubbing salvs into his burns and stab-holes. When he looked up, Walker had taken them to the edge of a verdant forest.

((Explore and BANDITS! First card. -.-))
“HALT!” Gruff was the shout, and a trio of bandits emerged from the bushes.

“Oh come now.” Lem sighed. He perked up and with false joviality and a barely hidden edge asked, “What can I do for you gentlemen? Perhaps, you can tell me where to find a Mssr. Whiskey?” The trio of bandits fell over in laughter, clutching their bellies and wiping imaginary tears.

“Mr Whiskey, ya say?” The tallest finally wheezed out. “Mr. Vhiski ain’t from these parts, and he takes none too kindly to people, ‘specially short ones, messing his name up. Now, give us yer horse horse and we’ll let you live.”

“Brigands!” Lem shouted, rearing Walker back and reaching into his pouch.

“Na! We’re Bandits!” The fattest shouted and they leaped at Lem. It wasn’t much of a fight.

Walker came down hard on the tallest, and Lem leapt onto the fattest, gouging his groin and eyes; vivisecting both with his dagger.

(Fail the check to close the location ; ; )

“Nothing here for us but trouble, methinks.” Lem sighed, again, and headed back to toward the farmhouse.

Turn 3
((Explore, encounter a Burglar, succeed in acquiring him with a perfect diplomacy check ))
“Oi! This is my farm!” Shouted the man sitting in the porch swing as Lem and Walker approached.

“Sir.” Lem said, “While you may be the current owner of this grand estate, I can tell from your hands the field life does not suit you. Why not join me on the road instead? More treasure where I’m headed than your fields.”

“You a thief?” Asked the apparent farm own.

“No more than you, good sir!” Lem said with a wink and a smile.

“Well then! Onward, just let me fetch my horse.” The man, tallish, rough but for his dandy’s hands returned a few moments later riding a very brown, very average nag. “Name’s Bulgaris.” He said.

((Discarded a Standard Bearer to explore again, failed to acquire Eyes of the Eagle))
“Lem” Lem said. They nodded and continued on their way. Neither of them saw the glimmer some glasses in the grass as they passed.

((Discard a blessing to explore again, encounter and acquire a sling))
“Oi, Lem. I’ll bet you my sling here you can’t hit an apple in that tree” Bulgaris pointed, “Before I do.”

“Your wager, sir, your weapon, may I go first?” Lem managed to keep a straight face and the sling was quickly his.

Turn 4
((Explore, fail to acquire a potion of glibness))
On their tour of the fields, they passed a merchant, who while a slick talker, had no items of interest to the Burglar or the Bard.

Turn 5
Despite the noon day sun, with a creeping horror, the duo realized they were being followed by a farm hand. The gigantic farm hand glowed faintly green, and the road behind it could be seen through a hole in its chest the size of Lem.

Bulgaris looked at Lem, sweat on his brow, “Shall we see about a bit of a jaunt?” He asked. Lem nodded and they applied their spurs liberally to their horses.

Turn 6
Ghost again fail the check by 2
“That was close” Bulgaris laughed, “I’d hate see what that one’d do --” The burglar never finished his sentence as the Ghost appeared in front of the trotting adventurers, its jaw detached and it swallowed Bulgaris whole. Walker screamed and burst onward, not stopping until many miles were between them and the farm.

((NOTE: Resetting our hand brings us another burglar among other things))

Turn 7
Last card in the Farmhouse deck: Bandit. Reveal a dagger
“It’s you again!” the Bandit leveled a crossbow at Lem. “You’re just gonna die. Then you’ll pay for what you did to Boros and Moroes.” But before he could pull the trigger, his throat drooped open like a second mouth, blood spurting out. The bandit fell to his knees. Crouched behind him was --

“Bulgaris!” Lem shouted, “I thought you were done for!”

“Psh. He just wanted a chat.” Bulgaris said. He limped up to Lem, “Mind if I hop a ride, though?”

“Certainly sir.”

((Check to close: Random monster is a shadow. Pass the check, but without magic it is still undefeated. ))
