About Eyfura Halfralfr
"The eyes of the gods watch from above, they see everything, your bravery, the line of bodies that stretch back behind each axe cut and sword blow. So I say be glorious! Look up to the Gods until you join them in their Golden Meadhall.
Background
When the lightning struck the pine, and the thunder rolled over the farm, the midwife slapped baby Eyfura alive and she made the first wail. Hugged to her elven mother's breast, the baby did not know yet that her father lay dead under a mudslide along with many of his sheep. A willful and wild spirit, Eyfura, left the poor sheepfarm to his mother and two hardworking brothers. She was happiest with her uncle, hearing odes to the battle heroes of old, play fighting again and again in the woods and fields. Each bruise, pain and fall just made her more willing to get back up.
Her uncle's legacy was a byrnie, metal shirt, from his days as a huskarl for the local lord. A rare item usually only seen on the nobles and their bodyguards, Eyfura was warned to keep it safe and secret by Uncle Gylif Jannson.
Grown into a strapping lass, one of rare beauty and strong in defence of her friends, Eyfura was naturally attractive to all in the valley. Her half elven blood simply added to her mystique, for some a sign of destiny, for others one of blood and curses due to the Norns taking her father's spirit on the night of her birth.
Anyway it was the witch, Leifa Stormsinger, who came to take the thirteen year old girl away. She wanted an apprentice and the casting of the stones had shown her the signs of woman, change and timeless (or Elf).
Eyfura went unwillingly at first but soon found the training suited to her energetic restless soul. Spells came to her during storms when she was buried for days under the roots of a pine or left alone up to her neck in the edge of a lake. Not so wise as her mentor, she was taught her to look for signs in everything, signs that could lead her in the future.
Eventually the leaf floating downriver with several black beetles were interpreted as time to leave and follow the river. Now armed with a greathammer and armoured in his uncle's chain shirt, no longer an apprentice but a seer of magical prowess, Eyfura was quickly recognised and authorised to join the mission with the Lady of the Thing.
But with no skill with water, Eyfura's first day at sea was a mix of excitement at this new adventure and well hidden nerves at the dark depths around.
