Just finished up the fastest run through an adventure path I've ever done. The group started as part of Outpost III: Puttin' on the Ritz at the tail end of March and finished up mid December. I figure it at about 8.5 months start to finish. We played through Year of Rotting Ruin, which really ended up being my first solid play through of Curse/Core mechanics outside of the 2019 GenCon open and a few test games leading into that.

I gave Estra from OA1 a try using a healthy splash of the Divine/Occult Adventure Packs. Joining Estra was Fumbus, Harsk and Seltyiel (who was swapped out after Adv 1 for Zetha for the rest of the path). This group was solid and engaged throughout. We had a nice mix of time zones and more than once I'd post at the end of my day and it would be back to my turn by the time I woke up.

I had a lot of fun leaning into and protecting Honaire regardless of the various scenarios. I also leaned heavily into the fact that Honaire was frequently adding Undead to my checks, so blessings that blessed twice on undead invoke were fantastic. When it came time to pick roles, I went with the Spiritual Counselor to add some Diplomacy to our group as well as adding the ability to draw on successful Charisma checks.

Overall Estra felt solid and her ability to scout and deal with the things she shouldn't be good at, provided I could keep Honaire in hand and sometimes discarding to add that 1d6 during start of turn scout explore, was a lot of fun.

Lastly, I love the changes that were made to shorten up the adventure path, moving it to four per adventure made it feel like we were constantly progressing. Pretty sure Rotting Ruin is my favorite path to date.

No upgrades of interest for me, and with that I think this is the end of the road for Estra.

Thanks guys for the game, I certainly had a lot of fun trying out Estra and seeing all the crazy things your characters were able to do.

Turn 15, The Publican
Hour Power: When you would discard an ally, recharge it instead.

Estra heads into the "Throne Room" with it flickering at the edges. So far it hasn't revealed the relic or rift that seems to somewhat anchor the area in this demiplane, but perhaps she will be able to spot its hiding place with her Sight. She peers ahead with her third eye and instead spots an impending ambush. Flanking Attack!

Estra ponders what they have come through already and thinks it might be worth calling this location too heavily fortified and joining Zetha. She takes a moment to discuss.

A brief discussion results in a consensus that joining forces with Zetha will yield the best results. Estra marks the ambush location and steps aside to let Fumbus lead them.

Estra ends her turn.

Estra resets her hand drawing both Pious Healer and more importantly Psychic Surgery. At start of Fumbus's turn she'll use the latter on herself. Hour Power: Before acting against a story bane monster, draw 1 card then discard 1 card.

With Harsk having scouted the way, Estra heads towards the Planer Rift.

Before Acting against Planer Rift (story bane - draw 1, discard 1) - Draw Divine Blaze, discard Darb Tuttle.

BYA random character summons and encounters the danger.
Random Character: 1d3 ⇒ 2 Estra, well at least I picked up a combat spell...

Danger: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6 2. Assassin / 4. Cinnabar
BYA Story Bane - draw Divine Fortune, discard Zellara's Harrow Deck.
Cinnabar-BYA Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Blah, well that was terrible, discard hand...I don't think we need to beat this guy to do anything, so just going to let him pound on me. Oh also Wounded...is there an achievement for taking 27+1d6-1d4 points of damage... =) Oh, right Hammers...discard two more Urgathoa's Gluttony and Ghost Whip.

Estra is so focused on the Planar Rift that she isn't prepared when an Assassin jumps out, dealing her a grievous wound before jumping back through the portal. Estra staggers, but doubles down her effort to close the rift.

Planar Rift-CtD: Divine 14: 1d10 + 8 + 1d4 ⇒ (6) + 8 + (1) = 15 Defeated, banished.

Knowing what she is doing helps, especially with a little aid from the divine nature of this Demiplane. She again is able to disrupt the rift and close it.

Shrine-CtC: Divine 11: 1d10 + 8 + 1d4 ⇒ (8) + 8 + (4) = 20 Closed, drawing a Blessing on close - Gozreh's Growth.

Wildcard Shift: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Harrow of Books drops off / Ablaze returns.

Demiplane built - Academy/Throne Room: 1d2 ⇒ 1 Academy

Estra limps over to the Academy as it shifts to the Throne Room. Entirely wiped after the unexpected attack.

Turn 7, Lamashtu's Madness
Hour Power: On your check against a monster, add 1. Damage suffered from monsters is increased by 1.

Kind of want to stay with the group, but my only "combat" spell is an evade and I really don't want to accidently shuffle this, so over to Academy for me.

Demiplane shift: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Trail...well that could have gone better.

End of move step examine via Third Eye - Lost Harrows has magic trait encounter for free. Recharge Magistrate to add 1d8

The Lost Harrows-CtA: Knowledge 12: 1d8 + 2 + 1d4 + 1d8 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (3) + (1) = 11 Bah, so close, not sure what I would have chosen for a skill anyway.

Estra talked briefly with Harsk to get the info on this Lost Harrow, she finds it but as she picks it up, it crumbles to dust. The magic on the deck apparently having run out. Grumbling she moves deeper down what now appears to be a Trail.

End of move step, Estra examine and spots another Planar Rift. Free explore into it.

Type/specific: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 5. Predator / 4. Belshallam

Estra's eyes go a bit wide as the Dragon Belshallam steps slowly out of the rift. But she calls out a spell of Domination, pitting her will against the dragons. She slowly forces it back into the rift. Belshallam, kicks a suit of armor at Estra in frustration as she's only able to force him to move away.

Dominate - evade Belshallam and search location for boon and draw it - Stone-shard Breastplate.

While keeping as much of her energy as she can into keeping the dragon locked down she next turns her attention to the rift.

Discard Marriage to bless.

Planar Rift - CtD: Divine 17 (12+3+2): 2d10 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (8, 7) + 6 + (4) = 25 Banished.

Having dealt with one of these before she focuses her energy and again spots the weak link in the Rift and shuts it down. Unfortunately using her Staff as a focus causes a bit of an issue as she hears it creak under the strain. She decides to set it aside and look at it later as he heads back to join the group.

Estra also feels a bit weaker as Akaruzug pulls vitality out of everyone in the room. To potentially offset that she quickly grabs some of it's departing essence after Fumbus dispatches it.

Display Steal Soul.

With that threat addressed, Estra takes a moment to activate her Hypercognition to study how this portal is drawing its energy.

Planar Rift-CtD: Divine 13: 2d10 + 6 + 1d4 - 3 ⇒ (3, 8) + 6 + (4) - 3 = 18 Defeated.

With her senses keyed up, she's able to spot the linkage and counteract it with her own divine spell.

With the rift closing, Estra is a bit concerned about the immediate vicinity and convinces everyone it might be a good time to head to somewhere else...

Farm-CtC: Diplomacy 10: 2d10 + 6 + 1d4 - 3 ⇒ (2, 7) + 6 + (4) - 3 = 16 Closed, Estra draws card for successful diplomacy - Staff of Darkflame, and is rewarded Firepelt Cougar on close.

As she's backing away she's a bit surprised when a Firepelt Cougar jumps from the rift and starts pacing at her side. Fortunately it seems friendly enough so Estra is willing to let it be at the moment.

Estra sees a store house open up before her and she heads in that directions.

Apparently it's a mirage though as she soon finds herself struggling through sand dunes.

Estra strides forward, her mind's eye open to see what might be in this strange place. It quickly spots a scabbard, but it hold no interest for her.

Encounter and fail to acquire. Banished. Free explore - Planar Rift.

No sooner does she bypass the scabbard than a Planer Rift opens and something steps through.

A local character encounters the danger...pausing for that since I'm not really equipped to fight.

Oh, good thought, not really going to change anything, so yeah, I just hang out at the base last time to pick up the spell. Which means I would have picked up Pathfinder Bodyguard in case we need a tertiary option on this stupid Demilich, bury to let any character avenge while adding 1d6 to all checks. After conferring it sounds like Estra will be best off at the Repository, she first passes over the Harrow card The Marriage to Harsk. Not sure if it will help in the battle to come, but couldn't hurt to have it. With that she sets off.

Estra spots an interesting looking Brooch put up in the repository, but it has some sort of arcane field surrounding it and the risk seems to great to risk acquiring it. With that known, she just sets up for the final throw down.

Hrm, think I'm going to take advantage of the extra card heal, during Harsk's turn since I'm heading toward the repository.

Estra knows that heading to the repository is risky, but it has to be done if we hope to get out of this. She also knows she can utilize her own personal Sight to guide her, so instead of focusing on her location, she instead takes a look at Zetha's location to plot a path forward for her (Moon Maiden Armor, Sadomasochism, and Demilich!)

With that lucky break spotted, Estra takes a moment to ponder the best strategy to end this as soon as possible.

Estra likes Harsk's plan of picking up some support before locking down the various locations. She heads over to the base and picks up Aviva Racovick and then recharges Lyre of Storms to move over to the Crypt.

On arrival she heals up with Pious Healer.

Turn 15, The Betrayal
Hour Power: When you acquire a boon, bury it.

Estra hears Harsk mention something about trying not to get frightened again and decides he might have a point plus he has a scroll she thought she had dropped...but their assassin support is here. She ponders a moment and decides to a moment to get her scroll back before tackling the rest of the Ruins.

Move to Lair, useing her newly opened Third Eye Estra spots a magical hammer along the way and tries to pick it up.

Thundering Earthbreaker-CtA: Strength 15: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Weapon 4, no need to spend resources especially since it would just be buried...banished.

It's clearly meant to be wielded by someone with a lot more upper body strength than she posses, plus it looks to be very corroded and likely to break. She opts to pass it by and continue into the Lair.

Free explore - Cave Bear.

Probably should have seen this coming, but as she's entering deeper into the rocky lair a Cave Bear trundles out...spots her and decides to take offense to her presence and charges.

Frightened: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3 Ouch - pitching Staff of Darkflame, Lyre of Storms, and Urgathoa's Gluttony.

Reload Honaire for combat, grabbing some support from Harsk since I'm not going to be able to finish this if I take any more damage.

Cave Bear-BYA: Combat 12: 1d4 + 1d6 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (3) + 6 + (1) = 12 Well I guess that's enough...draw Honaire back to hand.

Ghost Whip and Honaire for combat.

With Harsk providing some last minute distraction, Estra is able to fend off the first attack and follow up with a ectoplasmic whip to the face, driving the Cave Bear back into a cage that happened to be left open.

While she secures it, she takes a moment to patch up and calm her nerves.

Knowing that Harsk has scouted the way, Estra forgoes her normal examine and activates Hypercognition before heading deeper into the Ruins.

Estra isn't exactly known for her musical ability, but that Lyre is definitely giving off a divine glow and she senses it will be useful even to the ungifted. With it secured, she heads a little deeper into the ruins.

Unfortunately it appears the Ruins are currently occupied by Mobogo and a pair of Boggard Champions. The Boggards split and attack both Estra and Fumbus while Mobogo moves to finish off Estra.

Estra quickly calls down fire on the Boggard before it has a chance to reach her, and is so focused on the oncoming rush of the Mobogo that her fear leaves her and she just reaches out with Death Grip, holding the Mobogo in place while Honaire lays into it. In short order both threats are dispatched but she's spent from the unexpected additional encounter.

Estra get's a little lost in the Cave, but uses all of her senses to lead the way forward. At the point she thinks that they have gotten back to familiar ground Estra decides to take a reading and see if she can smooth out the remainder of the path.

Harrow Deck - Henchman Proxy A, Banudor, Hippogriff Rider, seems like a good order to me. Also ouch, Hippogriff pings Estra for 1.

Estra quickly spots the remaining dangers in the cave, but unfortunately is distracted enough to not see the Hippogriff launch a volley at her. Estra takes the damage and relays the scouted information to her peers before healing up a bit.

Psychic Surgery to heal - Estra, Spiritual Counselor has all cards in her discard pile healed: (Pious Healer, Magistrate, Nightspear). Deck shuffled.

The Ghast shuffling down the river is enough to make anyone lose their lunch as Harsk and Estra quickly find out.

Fortunately, ghosts of all forms are something she's adept at, she pulls at the force animating it, ripping it from the Ghast and it falls back into ectoplasm. She carefully steps over the slick spot left on the bank and continues on.

Free explore. - Roc

Apparently the Ghast wasn't the only thing out this morning, as a Roc, quickly dives out of the sky at Estra and Harsk. It takes a couple more strafing runs at the pair before Estra realizes she has a spell the might work for this situation.

Ghost Whip, Honaire, and Steal Soul.

Roc-CtD: Combat 19: 1d10 + 6 + 2d8 + 1d4 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 + (1, 3) + (2) + (2) + 6 = 22 Defeated, draw Honaire back to hand.

Well the Ghostly whip reaches out, snagging a foot of the Roc as it flies by. Unfortunately, Estra wasn't counting on the momentum of a large bird in flight and it's only with Honaire's help that she's able to hold on, pulling the Roc face first into the ground as its momentum is quickly arrested.

Estra ponders heading further down the river, but decides that was a fair amount of effort and maybe it would be best to patch up Harsk since he's here.

Estra heads out from the base, feeling a bit tentative without Honaire backing her up. She is immediately confronted by a Warsworn. It pulls all the metal nearby and flings it back at the wearer. Estra is completely unaffected and uses the time to call down a Divine Blaze, lighting the undead up.

With Harsk guiding the way, he leads Estra over to the bow. It's shielded but Estra quickly spots that it's some sort of death shield and Honaire is able to reach through and pull it out without any issue.

Unfortunately disturbing the shield around the bow releases some sort of mold. Estra holds her breath and moves out of the area as quickly as possible, figuring the wind on the mountain will dissipate it quickly.

As she arrives, she realizes that this is a pretty good place to be ambushed and that it's best to be prepared. Looking dubiously at a scroll she passes it over to Fumbus. "Don't make me regret this...

Just as she's about to move on, her eyes snag on a stealthy movement, at first she's convinced it's Harsk's cougar again, but quickly she determines it's something a bit more nefarious.

Reaching out she hardens the water in the air, forms it into a large hailstone and directs it at her target. Thud!

She's about to step over the sneak when she takes a second look and notices the armor she's wearing is highly magical. She pauses to take a closer look.

Estra is a little confused as she slowly transverses the Dunes...she keeps turning up scrolls, which while helpful, seem more than a little out of place. Shrugging she picks them up. After a couple, she gets curious to see what might be the origin and pulls out her Harrow Deck for a quick reading to see if it is able to pin point a source.

Scenario effect wrecks this, and we only get to see the top card. Red War Paint.

Estra's reading is immediately cut short and entirely focused on what is immediately ahead. It's an odd feeling and clearly this is some other magic blocking her scrying attempt.

She makes note of the fact there is some paint ahead and points it out to Fumbus while she gathers up her cards to follow.

As Estra peers ahead she catches a glimps of Knurlott ahead, she pulls on her connection to the spirit world, cracks her knuckles loudly and steps forward to brawl.

Before acting each local character must succeed at a Dexterity or Acrobatics 10 check or suffer 1d4 Acid damage. Estra will be using Dex or Str die, d6 from Estra power, Divine Fortune, Steal Soul to all of these. I'll add Honaire to the combats, and Urgathoa to the last one.

Estra, keeping an eye out for Honaire's return, happens to catch a glimpse of a different spirit. After a bit of time she's able to convince Aerilaya not to attack and that her need for information at the moment was dire. Aerilaya beckons her down a nearby path, intent on showing her an ambush that has been laid against them. Estra thanks her for the information and then notices Honaire's return. Time to deal with that ambush.

Estra, knowing she's not entirely without resources, but definitely lacking in firepower at the moment, sends Honaire out for some scouting. He returns with knowledge of a shrine to Urgathoa. Estra follows and though most wouldn't understand she does offer up some thanks for Honaire's continued existence in her life.

With Honaire infused by Urgathoa, Estra is about to leave when she spots a sling shot nestled in a nook in the shrine. Peering closer, it definitely looks like a powerful tool against the undead. Considering the current challenge, she reaches out to pick it up.
