Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo look around for a village paying attention. "Hey you"! "is there another way beneath the streets"? "One that we might be able to enter"?

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

With a glance at the townfolk to make sure they're not pelting him with rotten food or anything, Ergo turns and follows Yarovuk.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

I have HeroLab and all it's supplements. The editor is pretty good, but I don't spend much time there. Things like adding temporary / permanent adjustments are pretty easily handled...(Additional skills, feats etc.), but different mechanics are more difficult...ie...Heroic Paths etc. Could probably be done, but would have to name it as a custom thing, then make the adjustments by hand.

I wouldn't attempt to play/run pathfinder without HL.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo quickly looks around to see if the man is pointing at someone behind him. Then realizing it is him. "Me"! "How would I know". "I only arrived hear a short time ago myself, and this isn't the friendlies town on the planet". "I have no idea what is wrong".

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo goes blundering up to the distressed couple without hesitation. "What is wrong"? "Where is your child"? "Maybe I can help if you quit crying and tell me what is wrong".

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

"Wait"! "Do you hear that". "Someone's in trouble"!

Ergo bolts towards the sound of the conflict.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 Perception

Ergo leads the group into the village area. His ever curious eyes seeking anything unusual.

"Do you know anything more to help us find what you're looking for"?

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

"Oh yeah right". "It's just over hear past this barrel maker's shop".

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo is fine with Haria in charge...but he is still a Dwarf...stubborn streak and all :-).

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

"Come". "Follow me". "I will show you what I know of the village".

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

"I have been here for a short amount of time, and know a little of it's layout". "If you don't think it's too forward of me, if you fill me in a bit on what you seek, perhaps I can help".

Yep, tough one. Well you did say you were in the army, maybe you recognize Alex outfit, and that Haria seem to always address him as Captain. Though he did introduce himself, military style, to the bookworm dwarf already. Maybe common military stuff, considering you 1000+ years past your prime already, so can't get into specifics.

The wolf brothers have introduced themselves, yet not properly part of the party group. Haria with Alex on a mission. Wolf brothers on a mission to discover who they are. Dwarf seems lost trying to discover who he is, and where he comes from

The Dwarf is not really lost, he just doesn't know where to look for what he's looking for...and he does have a goal in mind. His studies led him here, and now he's ready for the next step towards his goal. :-)

NF

Spoiler:

Since Ergo has been here for a while, are we to assume that he has been down to the village, and might know something about it? We might need a little more guidance to find a reason to adventure together.

Ergo simply watches the exchange between the two he had noticed before hanging about the hostel, and the new arrivals, hesitant to pick sides.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo follows the rest inside...as they seem to be on a mission...just to see what happens.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Three passengers seem to be together as they leave the ship. Anxious for answers Ergo approaches them.

"Excuse me". "I couldn't help but notice that you arrived on the recent airship". "As it's a bit 'off schedule', would it be impertinent of me to ask where you are arriving from, and if there is a purpose to your visit"? "I know it's none of my business, but I can't seem to get answers from the ships crew...and...well I'm looking for some...well...answers."

"Oh excuse me". "Where are my manners". Ergo drops the handle of his wagon, clears his throat, and extends his hand. "I am Ergo Blackroot, scholar and book collector".

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo tries to get someone from the crew...or the trading company to talk with him.

"When does this ship leave again"? "Where is it going"? "Are you booking passengers"?

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Posting will probably be spotty this week, as I'm on a business trip, and my hotel internet is glacial.

Ergo arrives just as the airship begins to disembark. He asks around, trying to determine if anybody knows why the unscheduled ship is here. Finally he makes his way to the side of the ship, seeing if he can overhear anything concrete.

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 Perception

He seems a bit out of place, a bit thinner than most of the dwarves here, and most of his exposed skin is covered in pale blue tattoos. He is bald, and his beard is tied up in several tails. He carries a pale quarterstaff, and has an ancient warhammer across his back. He is pulling what looks like a child's wooden wagon, with a tarp stretched tight across it.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Ergo sit on a bench outside the tavern, the sun peaking from the clouds every now and then, and lighting his face. He studied the latest book he had found, trying to make some sense out of the scrawling script. I can't make heads or tails of this. I hate books that I can't read...but someday I'll be able to read them all.

He absentmindedly reached for his dwindling coin pouch giving it a heft. Hmm. Only a bit left. Don't know if I have enough left to stay in the hostel till the next airship arrives and have enough left for passage. Might have to find a way to make some coin. If I could just resist buying books.

He hears the squeals of excitement from some of the cities many urchins before he notices the approaching airship. Ah good. It is early. let me go see what fortunes it brings.

Ergo heads for the mooring tower, to see what new adventure awaits him. After-all he must create new memories, to fill the void created by his missing ones. He stands, placing his newest book into the small wagon that he pulls behind him, covered by a tarp, and filled with...well...books.

When choosing spells for my Hermetic channeler, do I choose divine, or Arcane spells, and if so from what list?

Or do I just choose any spells from my available schools regardless of class?

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Let's get started. I'll pick spells tonight. I don't see Ergo as having a lot of equipment, so I'll hand-wave that for now. Maybe his hammer, basic goods, and a few books.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Thanks!

Dot, by the way.

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Any way you would consider creating a game thread, so I don't have to page through all the discussion threads to find this one?

@Haria

Favored Class Options: Most Morgral are Channelers or Rogues, but some of them take levels in Noble Dead class.
o Channeler: Gain + ¼ caster level when casting spells of necromancy school.
o Rogue: Add ½ bonus on Stealth and Perception checks when made in dim light or darkness.

@Alex

You have to choose do you want to enchant it as a weapon or as a shield each time, yes.

If you mean Advance Ancestral Legacy, you can not take it before it becomes magical on its own. Which means, 3rd level.

@Ergo

Looking good.

@All

I'll start the game thread when all of you post here with at least partially finished characters. As of now, we're waiting for Yarovuk, I think.

I believe he posted up near the top of this page of the thread...

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Here are the basics of Ergo. Still need languages, spells, and equipment, and his story will be in his profile as well, but this should be enough to go on for checking mechanics.

I'll check the runes section of Deep Magic right away.

Edit: You can take runes as Channeler talents. No prerequisites, unless they are mentioned in Deep Magic.

So if I take a Rune power, instead of a spell school, does that mean the associated spells for the Rune serve as spells available to learn?

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

While reviewing Deep Magic...and I'm still digesting this mammoth tome, I was drawn to the "Rune Magic" section, and can see how this would fit the theme of Ergo, maybe even more than the Hex's, and Patron. Perhaps the library he found had a special section with each of the 24 runes on a bookshelf, and the books beneath it supporting the function of the rune. Once Ergo finds his way back here, this could be how he achieves mastery of the new runes. I still like Aracane bond with his ancient Warhammer, but maybe if we can work something else he'll go with Runes, instead of Patron and Hex's for that part of the character. I'll post up what I've got of Ergo tonight, but an going to skip putting a lot more time into him until it is determined if we have a game or not. All that's left are...

Equipment

Skills

Background details

Choosing spells.

Just reposting content as requested.

@nightflier, I see where some of the confusion is coming with the bite ability mentioned in Blood Drinker feat, with prerequisite of Morgral. You have based the Morgral on Dhampir, which has an alternative racial trait Fangs that gives the bite attack. For Blood Surge of Morgral, some clarity is needed, on how the blood is taken from the target. Also one needs to be grappling, no mention of helpless target as done for Blood Drinker. Too me both Blood Drinker and Blood Surge forms the bases (prerequisite) for other feats, and do the same thing that is to take blood from targets, though seem to have different types of damage and benefits. Blood Drinker only requires min of 1 HP of damage to target, or bite for 1d3 (according to Fangs racial trait of Dhampirs) and deals 2 points Con damage, while Blood Surge does a varying amount of damage for normal HP.

I believe both abilities should have the same method of gaining the blood, with same initial damage done to gain the blood, or one ability forms the basis for all the other feats, and this ability only handles how the blood is taken. Seeing Dhampirs did not have a racial ability to gain blood, yet Morgral has the racial ability using blood, I think the Blood Surge should handle all the blood retrieving aspects, remove this from Blood Drinker, seeing prerequisite for Blood Drinker is Morgral which already has racial ability Blood Surge, and make Blood Drinker as additional effects to using Blood Surge ability.

I spotted this on the Dhampir entry under Physical Appearance section:
Dhampir wrote:

All dhampirs have elongated incisors. While not true fangs, these teeth are sharp enough to draw blood, and many suffer a reprehensible desire to indulge in sanguinary delights, despite the fact that the act provides most no physical benefit.

thus allowing them to draw blood without having the need for cutting or having tearing/ripping damaging fangs. Just four tiny holes.

Under Morgral description we have:...

Ergo's fascination for communicating with undead could give some reason for these two characters to come together...though I know you're not completely undead :-)

Male Dwarf (Mahiset) Hermetic Channeler / 1

Thanks for the answers NF. I have taken "Arcane Bond" with my ancient Warhammer. The only reason I asked about a "Spellcasting" skill is it's listed as a class skill under the Channeler.

I plan on Ergo taking two or three schools for spellcasting, then some hexes, and combat skills. Kind of a Jack-of-all-trades, but following a common theme. (Communicating with spirits, and fascination/fear of lightning.) We'll see how he develops, but it can't hurt to have an ancient Librarian's ghost living in your warhammer. (Wow! I need a T-shirt that says that).

Can you creat the gameplay thread, so we can dot it and it will show up in my favorites.
