I have HeroLab and all it's supplements. The editor is pretty good, but I don't spend much time there. Things like adding temporary / permanent adjustments are pretty easily handled...(Additional skills, feats etc.), but different mechanics are more difficult...ie...Heroic Paths etc. Could probably be done, but would have to name it as a custom thing, then make the adjustments by hand. I wouldn't attempt to play/run pathfinder without HL.

Ergo quickly looks around to see if the man is pointing at someone behind him. Then realizing it is him. "Me"! "How would I know". "I only arrived hear a short time ago myself, and this isn't the friendlies town on the planet". "I have no idea what is wrong".

The Dwarf is not really lost, he just doesn't know where to look for what he's looking for...and he does have a goal in mind. His studies led him here, and now he's ready for the next step towards his goal. :-)

Spoiler:
Since Ergo has been here for a while, are we to assume that he has been down to the village, and might know something about it? We might need a little more guidance to find a reason to adventure together. Ergo simply watches the exchange between the two he had noticed before hanging about the hostel, and the new arrivals, hesitant to pick sides.

Three passengers seem to be together as they leave the ship. Anxious for answers Ergo approaches them. "Excuse me". "I couldn't help but notice that you arrived on the recent airship". "As it's a bit 'off schedule', would it be impertinent of me to ask where you are arriving from, and if there is a purpose to your visit"? "I know it's none of my business, but I can't seem to get answers from the ships crew...and...well I'm looking for some...well...answers." "Oh excuse me". "Where are my manners". Ergo drops the handle of his wagon, clears his throat, and extends his hand. "I am Ergo Blackroot, scholar and book collector".

Posting will probably be spotty this week, as I'm on a business trip, and my hotel internet is glacial. Ergo arrives just as the airship begins to disembark. He asks around, trying to determine if anybody knows why the unscheduled ship is here. Finally he makes his way to the side of the ship, seeing if he can overhear anything concrete. 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 Perception He seems a bit out of place, a bit thinner than most of the dwarves here, and most of his exposed skin is covered in pale blue tattoos. He is bald, and his beard is tied up in several tails. He carries a pale quarterstaff, and has an ancient warhammer across his back. He is pulling what looks like a child's wooden wagon, with a tarp stretched tight across it.

Ergo sit on a bench outside the tavern, the sun peaking from the clouds every now and then, and lighting his face. He studied the latest book he had found, trying to make some sense out of the scrawling script. I can't make heads or tails of this. I hate books that I can't read...but someday I'll be able to read them all. He absentmindedly reached for his dwindling coin pouch giving it a heft. Hmm. Only a bit left. Don't know if I have enough left to stay in the hostel till the next airship arrives and have enough left for passage. Might have to find a way to make some coin. If I could just resist buying books. He hears the squeals of excitement from some of the cities many urchins before he notices the approaching airship. Ah good. It is early. let me go see what fortunes it brings. Ergo heads for the mooring tower, to see what new adventure awaits him. After-all he must create new memories, to fill the void created by his missing ones. He stands, placing his newest book into the small wagon that he pulls behind him, covered by a tarp, and filled with...well...books.

So if I take a Rune power, instead of a spell school, does that mean the associated spells for the Rune serve as spells available to learn?

While reviewing Deep Magic...and I'm still digesting this mammoth tome, I was drawn to the "Rune Magic" section, and can see how this would fit the theme of Ergo, maybe even more than the Hex's, and Patron. Perhaps the library he found had a special section with each of the 24 runes on a bookshelf, and the books beneath it supporting the function of the rune. Once Ergo finds his way back here, this could be how he achieves mastery of the new runes. I still like Aracane bond with his ancient Warhammer, but maybe if we can work something else he'll go with Runes, instead of Patron and Hex's for that part of the character. I'll post up what I've got of Ergo tonight, but an going to skip putting a lot more time into him until it is determined if we have a game or not. All that's left are... Equipment Skills Background details Choosing spells.

Ergo's fascination for communicating with undead could give some reason for these two characters to come together...though I know you're not completely undead :-)

Thanks for the answers NF. I have taken "Arcane Bond" with my ancient Warhammer. The only reason I asked about a "Spellcasting" skill is it's listed as a class skill under the Channeler. I plan on Ergo taking two or three schools for spellcasting, then some hexes, and combat skills. Kind of a Jack-of-all-trades, but following a common theme. (Communicating with spirits, and fascination/fear of lightning.) We'll see how he develops, but it can't hurt to have an ancient Librarian's ghost living in your warhammer. (Wow! I need a T-shirt that says that). Can you creat the gameplay thread, so we can dot it and it will show up in my favorites. |
