A lot said since I was last online lol.

LazarX is right when a god walks into the room, stuff gets real.

I don't want to sit there and fudge numbers while doing an encounter with my pc. Once it gets abritary it gets frustraiting for them even if its a role play.

I'm going to look at that 3.5 gods and deities manual and see what it has to say to develop something as far as a stat block goes.

I like some of the ideas a few of you said. Hows this for an encounter:
PC and gorum clash with a "who can intimidate who better" match. They start to trade blows and the god round after round punishes the pc with big hits AND effects that require fortitude saves.

The challenge: Do a potential of x amount of damage and make x amount of saves. The point is to see if I can put him in a position where he tries to run away or not. If my player can do it then he will be made into a servent of the god as a reward. If not...well...it would have been a good run to level 18.

17 or 18? I don't think he can survive an encounter like this... Why don't u simply get the most powerful Golem there and give it 20 fighter levels? Simple, effective and your player will die. :)

He knows he wont survive. He wants to go out in a blaze of glory as part of a reason why he wont be around when we start new characters and he plays his son. I like the idea but you know those crazy players, always doing the unexpected and sometimes pulling it off.

I'm looking for ideas from this awesome community.

I have a player who is planning to go toe to toe with none other than Gorum himself around level 17 or 18.

Since the gods don't usually entertain the thoughts of such silly mortals I think he will make an exception for this character :)

So far I'm leaning towards the PC fighting a construct (since one of Gorums avatars is a suit of armor) that is a CR30 or 40.

I have the set up and the actual battlefield selected and done up I just need help on figuring out the stat block on the opponent.

/cheers/

2 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

I think I have over thought this waaaaay too much so I'll just post the issue and see what feedback I get and see if I'm stupid or not.

I have a fighter who wants to use a spear sized for a large creature (particularly a giant).

For argument sake lets say he has the fighter archetype that allows him to wield a spear in 1h.

Since this spear is a size category larger then him can he wield it either 1h or 2h at a -2 penalty or is it beyond what would be considered a usable weapon?

Well the assassin, if I make it, will be starting a new homebrew campaign a friend is designing based on Diablo II. So level 1.

I love the idea of using poisons too lol

Defender Aura allows them an AoO.

Defender Aura pretty much says "An enemy subject to your defender aura gets -2 to attacks that do not include you or someone else with defender aura and if they shift or make an attack that does not include you, you can make a mellee basic attack against them."

It's like a mark without marking.

The class has my eye mostley because I love the idea of making shadows come alive and do the fighting with me. It's a killer concept no pun intended but if I play a striker I want to be sure I can at least do enough damage so others at the table go "yup, thats a striker" and not "you said this is supposed to be a striker?....huh."

Grand Lodge

Has anyone tried the assassin class from the DDI? Flavor wise they seem very good to me but I was wondering if they actually did decent damage enough to live up to the classes title.

@Uchawi: I found the posts you made referrence here and it was informative if not subjective. It's hard to break down utility and skill into numbers to quantify but the blogger did a decent job. If anything I feel more solid about playing knight.

@Diffan: This is some excellent input, cross-training caught my eye but it didn’t occur to me I could switch out one of my power strikes for something. I liked combat superiority simply because it stopped their movement; have you found any skills or abilities that give you similar effects? Closest i can work out id Defend the line stance to slow them.

Wow thanks for all the responses guy. Currently I'm level three and I want to play a fighter defender and so far I've done well being a meat bag and want to make sure I can take a beating or mitigate as much as I can.

My DM let me try a few sessions as a weaponmaster and a few as a knight and there are pros and cons to each as far as class abilities. The defender aura is awesome but I miss combat supieriority. That being said I've got a concern about fighter marking come higher levels. It seems like being marked will be less and less of an threat as you progress, even at level 3 I would have no problem taking the penalty and as a knight I don't do enough damage to make provoking a reason to stick around so I'm having a problem keeping my targets from getting away. While I was a weaponmaster I had combat superiority to at least stop them from getting away but then I could only mark a limited number of targets.

I'm just throwing this out there cause I'm a nub at 4e still but at lvl 2 my fighters AC is 21 which feels low to me.

Breakdown:
10(base)+1(1/2 level)+8(Dwarven Scale Mail +1)+2(large Shield)

Stats:
STR 18(+4)
CON 16(+3)
DEX 12(+1)
WIS 14(+2)
CHA 10
INT 10

I used the DDI character builder so it did the math for me but after playing I feel as though too many attacks are slipping through to hit me. Should I have one or two more AC that I'm missing from something?
I do have the feat that lets me add +1 to my AC and REF when I use a shield based power.

Thanks ya kindly, my player will be wanting to hear this news so he can run around shooting wands at stuff lol.

Grand Lodge

Talking about his Eidelon which he already has out.

So say he and his eidelon get into a fight with some kobolds. Does he get to run around casting spells and his eidelon beat on stuff or is it one or the other gets to act.

Grand Lodge

So I have a new group starting and for the first time I have a player that is using a summoner. I've never had to deal with animal companions or summons before so I'm not sure where in the phb it has the rules for turn actions available to that player. I really just need know if both he and his summon can act on his turn or if the actions are split up between them both.

Anyone know?

Is it just me or does it take forver to find a PbP game. Is there a trick or particular forum thread to find games or just luck of the draw in this or the PbP section?

A fellow Louisvillian! Thanks for asking, I'm always open to trying out a new group. Where/when do you meet and how many people are in the group?

We don't meet as often as I would like :( Usually we meet once every two-three weeks for a 3-4 hour session but I'm a slave driver so we can get through alot in that time. We have 4 pcs right now but one is myself (I play a character and DM) and a guy who lives in Arizona has a pc we play then update his stuff and he plays in the online portions I do. We have a guy who is getting ready to deploy and this campaign will last through his trip so I set up a Google Group for us to play via email while he is gone but I will probably start another group (maybe 4e) while he is gone. If we got a 5th player ie you, I might just put us on the fast exp track to keep and make all monsters advanced to keep the difficulty and exp inline with each other.

Grand Lodge

Hey Tanner, I'm a Louisville gamer as well running a Kingmaker group that is half pbp and half tabletop. You looking for a group?

Grand Lodge

If we want a human fighter I would be down as well. I've been running a kingmaker campaign via pbp using google groups to post files and homemade maps so that's all the pbp experience I have.

Well, one thing... wolves aren't lone hunters. They're very social pack animals by nature, you can use this. Make the healing process longer than would normally be the case in a world with magic healing available. Have the Fighter make Heal checks daily. Long term care DC is 15, you may need to lower this or get others to help, you could also allow a take 10. This will give god reason for the fighter to spend several days constantly with the wolf, earning it's trust. You might have the wolf snap at the fighter a few times in the beginning. Stopping the aggressive behavior as he get's closer to full health.

I like this idea along with Anburaid's -5/-3 penalty suggestion. My player seems to be realy into wanting this wolf if anything as a pet. The most I will let him do is use it to track or other standard handle animal checks. The wolf would still run off sometimes I'm sure :)

Grand Lodge

I always plays humans, of all the races it is mankind that have the most potential. We aren't bound to one stereotype or another. We are the race capable of the greatest good or the darkest evil.

Grand Lodge

So I am running a Kingmaker campaign right now and one of my PCs got the idea that he wants a wolf pet for purely aesthetic value. He is a fighter and plans on staying that way but the problem is he recently knocked out a wolf with subdual damage and now wants to domesticate it and I'm not sure how to do that. The wolf is to old to use rear animal checks on it to domesticate it. Maybe have him make a rear animal check (for DC purposes only) for a few months game time to show his time and dedication to breaking the animal in? I just don't know if I like this approach though as I dont feel it represents the wolf as the lone hunter/wild spirit it is. Maybe I'll have him fight it naked and 'mark his territory' on it instead...

Any suggestions?
