Morgam smirks, thinks for a moment, and then shrugs. "They've got a point, Dominic. I think we can leave 'em on their own. We all might learn somethin'."
He brushes past Zecharius again and removes himself from the crowd, instead heading for the least-disputed territory. The docks?
"Seems the beasts won't be the only ones getting culled tonight. Wonder how many dead hunters it'll take for them to listen." He mumbles as he paces off.

He then jumps right over the man's head to take his place in the crowd.

What's the etiquette here? I'm not sure if I should knock this guy out, humiliate him, or just walk away so as to not get shot.

A sneer crosses Morgam's face for an instant as the claws begin to poke out from his fingertips. He clenches his fist to conceal the beastly tell, the tips pricking his palms.
"Hardly past a week ago we let some of them Lorans in. We stopped the beast among 'em but they brought some kind of curse too--a man could lift you off your toes with one hand an'd snap your neck sooner than look at you. Now the way I figure it this group is gonna be the one to run into him, and seein' as I'm the only hunter here as seen this man, save fer Dominic catching a glimpse," Morgam says with a nod towards his companion, "I figure you'd be damn foolish to go without me. Some of you as hunted with me before know I tell it like it is, and I'm not makin' this up. So I think you'd best make room for two more, if ya have any sense."

I do have some hunting background, as indicated by backstory/profession rank. Hoping I can swing that to some use here. But speaking of swinging, if this brute has ideas about taking things to fists, I'll try to see it coming.

As he is stopped by the big man, Morgam surveys him like a butcher eyeing a cut of meat. A few different thoughts run through his head before he spots Dominic making for the same crowd.
He keeps his eye on his former companion, waiting to see how he fares.

Morgam sees ego and bloodlust being contested and bartered as the hunters all flock to their most desired hunting grounds. Though Morgam himself is proud, he's hardly vain, and doesn't need to lead any hunts this evening. But he does need to make sure one in particular is done properly.
He shoulders his way into the group arguing over the city center, wordlessly letting his strength and presence notify the other hunters he's fixed on this locale.

"What of the Lorans?" Morgam calls out, not willing to let the issue slide by. "And the blood they've brought with them?"

Morgam was lying on top of his bed, vaguely made, in his full hunting attire. He wasn't very good at sleeping at night, but he'd at least been relaxing until this moment. He knew it was coming. The hunt was like an ache in his bones, and the anticipation made his blood feel warm. His heavy boots were crossed at the foot of the bed and his hands folded behind his head where a pillow would be for a softer person. His eyes were closed and he hummed an old Northern tune, half-dreams of beasts and hunters drifting through his mind.

At the sound of the bells, he slowly rouses himself and walks to a simple wooden table serving as writing desk, dinner table, and shelf. He hangs his weapons inside his vest but leaves it open, hardly concealing who he is or what business he attends to. But the truth of the matter, as any hunter close to him would learn, is that his weapons were a secondary consideration; his blood is what makes him truly dangerous.
He palms a vial of blood and turns it back and forth in his hand, recalling for a moment the circumstances that brought him to this moment, this life. Then he tucks it away and heads out his door, locking it behind him.

With a scoff he responds, "Well that'd be my luck, but something tells me he's not going away that easy. So yeah, keep an eye out. I'll owe ya."
Morgam looks to his left and to his right, as though he half-expects to see the tattooed man right there watching them.
"If there's anything you can find on another city beneath this one, I'll pay you in gold. Or better." He adds as he prepares to leave.
"Oh and Zane? Take care you don't end up missing or dead yourself. Like you said, these are troubled times. And you know I don't do funerals."

"I think I'll hang onto it for now." Morgam responds with a pat on his pocket.
"Yeah, looking for a guy with some tattoos. I don't know what his business is in Yharnam, but he's trouble. I want him out of this town or dead."
Morgam spits to punctuate the statement.

"It's a watch that don't tell time, Zane. It tells something else." Morgam says gruffly before putting it away. "Something's brewing. You've got to have something for me. Rumors, market changes... what's going on in the shadows, Zane?" He asks with a sigh. "I'm not in that world anymore."

"Heh. Been worse, but I've been better too. Should've just stayed in the North." He responds, shaking his head. "But since I'm stuck here for now, maybe you can help me with a problem."

Morgam goes on to explain the man he's looking for, how he came with the refugees and brought a little girl, but leaves out all the monsters. He explains the "undercity" they found, in vague detail, and finally, he produces the strange watch. "Ever seen anything like it?" He asks, sure he already knows the answer.

It's a Medium range Divination. Normally that would take 10 mins or 1 spell point + 1 standard action. Of course I took it alongside Scent so I could "sniff out" the afflicted, and took a boon to reduce the normal 10 mins to 1 minute. Or I can use one of my 9 SP to do it fast.

I wasn't sure if they'd actually have the "Shapechanger" subtype or not, but I thought it was a close enough adaptation to the setting. And it's by no means an "always on" kind of awareness. More like "better than a blood test".

Oh, and FWIW I get this by taking the Divination Sphere and already having the Alteration Sphere. You gain "detect x" effects based on what you already know. Since my Alteration comes from the same basic source as the Scourge Beasts, it made sense to me.

Asking questions of shady characters, skulking about in the shadows, being obsessive. Just normal stuff like that.

Leveled up. +1 BAB, +1 all Saves, more Acro, Perception, & Stealth, +1d6 sneak attack, and perhaps most importantly, I gained the Scent ability as well as the ability to sense Shapechangers.
If that last part is going to mess with your game, GM, I'll change it out.

I had guessed lore hunting would be a Diplomacy:gather information check, but maybe there's a library we could use instead?

I had guessed tracking the man (I think I'll just call him "the omen" from now on) would be a mix of following disappearance reports/beast attacks, asking around if anyone had seen him or the girl, and looking in places where refugees might want to hide.

Morgam proceeds to convey the important bits about the animated gears, the falling shelves, the mummified corpses, the heart, the heavily locked door and the great clock that lie behind it. And, of course, the figure with the gaping chest.
"I don't know exactly what's goin' on, but the tattooed man I saw, he's the one that clock foretold. Somebody knew he was comin', and they knew he was bringin' a plague of beasts with him.
This town's in trouble."

I assume it goes in the thing, but I don't know whose it is. Some great hero from the past, preserved through this bizarre alchemy? I really can't say.

So my silly little working theory is that there would be no reason to trap this place against ordinary people. No, I think whoever set this whole thing up was trying to both anticipate and prepare for this very event. So I'm thinking this armored automaton may just be instrumental in saving this town, but until we know more it's a huge risk.

I like it. It feels linear without feeling like we don't have any agency, so that's nice. And it's a great universe so far.

He moves to examine the other two inner faces and checks his own pocket watch.
