Yeah, aren't pally smites a glorious thing! I do have one that will always be out dps'd but she isn't built as a fighter anyway. It's an Oradin that uses gauntlets. She's not going to be a damage dealer but my god can she soak up the hurt with life link, lay on hands, and channels. She also has the FU curse of clouded vision.
As far as what I liked the group was fun, we had a lot of interplay and I could see the characters developed a lot over the course of the game. We made some very crazy choices, like Gary and granting mercy and freedom to things we probably shouldn't have. I absolutely adore Simon and Ema's interaction. They might as well have been born siblings all things considered. As far as things I would have done differently I would likely have not worried about all of the crafting feats I took. I also meant to do more with crafting constructs but never really got the chance during the game to do so. I could have made far better use of that feat in particular. I'm not sure if there was anything I'd suggest you do differently, I think you did superbly and I look very much forward to continuing Return as well as starting this new Isekai game we've been putting together. Everyone has been great and I definitely look forward to playing with you again sometime if I am not already. If anyone decides to take up running a Jade Regent or War for the Crown please let me know, I have been looking for those two but never seem to get into them or have them make it off the ground.
With everything accomplished and the threat of the weapon over with Ema found herself having to figure out what to do with her life. Oh the Veiled Masters were still a threat, albeit a diminished one, and she knew they could be again one day. One of the first things she did was gather those who were willing and went to deal with Auberon. Given what they had been up against the lich was no longer much of a threat and he was dispatched in short order. Ema worked to bring others down to the spire to study Auberon's research which she hoped would lead to revolutionary changes in planar theory. When she had returned to her new home Ema worked and redirecting some of her lovers to others, particularly the blacksmith whose love life she had so badly messed up. She worked on getting him back together with the woman he had fallen for before she came around. Ema's apprentice, Medrinnah, had matured greatly from the headstrong rebellious girl she had been before. While her mother might not always approved of her daughter's behavior, particularly when she started emulating Ema's style of dress for a while, overall the change was still for the better. It was within a year that Ema decided Medrinnah was proficient enough to no longer be called her apprentice and she proudly gave the woman her original spellbook on the day she told Medrinnah she was now an apprentice no longer. Baelden and Ema continued their long history of insulting each other up until the day the irascible old artificer died. Ema was broken up about his loss, she valued his opinion and loved him as a surrogate father but he was not the first she had lost and would not be the last. Between them they had made some significant breakthroughs in automata using her knowledge regained from Lost Azlant and provided the town and later city with a great deal of benefit in the way of autonomous laborers as well as running a magical school on the island in their later years. Ema continued to take other lovers at times, even when she was reaching the end of her life as even though she had lost her immortality she never seemed to age physically looking just as young on her death bed as she had when she first arrived on the island. Despite her propensity Ema still came back to Perrell. Ema had fallen in love with Perrell and, despite the difficulties involved, had children with her. Magic could solve so many problems like that. Their oldest daughter was Maggie an intelligent and serious girl who took more after Perrell than Ema and studied history after being inspired by Ema's stories and her Uncle Simon's thisrt for knowledge. Their younger daughter was Kaia and was just as precocious and outgoing as Emalliandra was. Kaia eventually became Medrinnah's apprentice and followed Ema's path of the Arcanist when she was ready to diverge from her studies. While Ema never aged in appearance her body did slowly begin to wear out. She lived for a long time, long enough for her and Perrell to see their great grandchildren but it wouldn't last forever, nothing ever really does. Eventually Perrell fell ill and when Perrell died so too did Ema who was unwilling to go on. While they were confirmed dead their bodies vanished without a trace and it was rumored they were taken directly to whatever after life they had earned to become servants of some divinity or another though the truth was never to be discovered.
Yeah, having you helped out a lot Terana, I'm glad you were able to join in. Also, you've been great Brainiac! This is the first AP I have actually had play through to completion.

As another thought is it possible to take a piece of the control panel ? Some important bit that would prevent the thing from being usable? I suspect that destroying all of the holopads is going to take a very long time, more than we currently have, since at least one is back on our island. gods only knows where the rest are or if we can even get to them. It sounds like it would be a long adventure on it's own and kind of outside the scope of this game. EDIT Oh, what all did we get from Ochymuah's remains? Is it just the phylactery which is a skull shaped ioun stone or were those separate things?
Ema came out of her trance after mentally thanking the Usher who answered her questions and resolved to send it something by way of thanks, like maybe a certain Lich that needed to be ended soon. Ema looked at the others and said, "We need to destroy all of the holographic pads that continue to play father's message. The problem is I don't know where they all might be or if we can even find them ourselves." Ema smiled slightly and said, "Fortunately I have a plan." Ema headed back to teh nexus where they first saw Jazradan's ghost and began to look over the control panel. She didn't want to do this but she knew she had to. She began to search through the menus for the control for the projectors. If she couldn't just delet the message and hence free her father's soul Ema was going to try and make them all short out or activate their self destruct if they had one.
Ema nodded in agreement with Victrix and said, "Absolutely." Her gaze shifted back to the device and she sighed. "I can disable this permanently but it will take some time and I can't be distracted with it. We should find what has been holding my father's ghost here and deal with it so he does not come back." Ema looked vaguely in the direction of their village and said, "It might be worth bringing Baeldwin here to help disable this thing," she looked to Simon and added, "Your help would be good too if you will give it Simon."{/b] Ema's thoughts turned to her father's ghost and what might be holding him there. She thought that the best place to start would be where she was put into stasis all those millennia ago and decided to use one of the abilities she had rarely called on. She focused on the barrier between the planes and communing with those aligned with Pharasma. They needed to end her father's existence as an undead and there was none better to aid with that than the forces of the goddess of death. When she was sufficiently centered Ema asked, [b]"Is the room where I was sealed away so long ago the best place to find the source of my father's ghostly existence?"
Ema watched as her father's spirit vanished again and shook her head as she said sadly, "Yes father, it is." With that Ema collapsed to the floor and began to sob at what she had just had to do to her father. He was free now from his undeath but it still hurt. It took her quite some time before she collected herself and when she had Ema rose and said, "We need to destroy this thing or at least make sure no one can ever reach it again." Ema wiped her eyes and realized she was a mess. She quickly cast a spell to set herself to rights again and squared her shoulders as she looked at the device. "If nothing else maybe the inevitable we met can call one of it's own to guard it until such time as the world is ready for it."
Thank you, I still have to burn a spell slot to counter of equal or higher level.
Ema screamed as she felt her mind eroding, "NO, NOT AGAIN!" It was a wail of terror a caused by what had happened to her previously when she forgot everything. On it's own the sword lashed out at Jazradan again though it was not as accurate as before. Ema was not going to accept such a fate if she could do anything about it so she chanted and gestured and a burst of anti magic attempted to rip through the spell that tore away a piece of her very self.
As she let her magic try to do it's work Ema prepared to counter Jazradan again if she needed to.
Gaele tore into Jazradan's spectre angrily fully intent on demolishing him.
Alright, I edited my last post and added teh attack roll on the end of it. Oh I forgot Gaele! Gaele's attacks added in as well. I did them all since I wasn't sure if she got them all or not.
And it now dwns on me that circle of death likeyl won't work since it caps at creatures of 9hd and he surely has more than that. Oh well, it's not like Ema necesarilly knows this.
Ema was glad they had successfully shut down the machine and equally sad that her father had shown his true colors. He hadn't uploaded to the machine as he said after all but was a ghost. Ema smiled sadly as she stepped back from him and said, "I'm sorry this happened father." Ema quickly cast a spell and a floating sword appeared that lashed out at her father's ghost..

The Azata knew it's next enemy to fight and looked with sadness on the spectre as she attacked it without hesitation.
With the fighting over and everyone coming over to help Ema knew she could do this. "Alright, I will try to do this one more time, if I can't turn it off normally then we'll use the failsafe." Once more Ema worked the controls in an effort to power down the device safely.
The ghaele continued to tear into the aboleth before with wild abandon.
Ema, having dispelled one spell cast at her and safely blockaded in with the controls, could only trust her friends would be able to keep focused Ochymua occupied while she worked.
Ema nodded and stepped forward through a crack in reality to appear next to the control panel. She then cast a spell to create walls of force around herself to keep the aboleth at bay. Alright father, I'm ready. Ema began to follow directions to deactivate the device.
As the Azata did its best whirling dervish impression with a greatsword Ema heard her father's voice speaking to her in her mind. She knew he was right and she didn't hesitate to ask him, What do I need to do father? Please tell me quickly!
Gael assumed a defensive stance as she cast a spell while avoiding giving the aboleth any openings.
Ema quickly cast a spell tagged at the spell making the nearby aboleth have so many images of himself. When she was finished she released the counter magic as her eyes flashed.
Ema was glad that the clockworks went down and was in full agreement about moving on. When they were healed up and ready they entere what Ema knew would be the end of this fight, once and for all. She would finally be able to rest one way or another when this was over with and she squared her shoulders and entered. Ema saw the aboleths on either side, both under the effects of a mirror image spell it seemed, and heard Ochymua speak. Ema noted that Gael told her where the real Ochymua was behind the false image of an Azlanti. Ema scoffed at him as Valentin dispelled the sigil and said, "You need better minions Ochymua. They failed to kill me when they had the chance and now I will finally avenge my people., her voice was cold as Cocytus itself as she glared at him, "and now I will end you even if it kills me!"
Ema grimaced as she felt the lightning tear through her but did not let it stop her. She chanted and gestured sending a prismatic spray of colors washing over the minions to her left on the map as her eyes flashed magnifying the effect of the strength behind the spell.
Ema was ready to counter the next spell that got cast.
Her azata, meanwhile, flew down to attack the southern aboleth. As it went it drew the greatsword from it's back and slashed downwards at the monster's head.
Annoyed at the clockwork soldiers blocking their path forward Ema tore open a crack in space so she could step through and line the two up. Having done so she cast a spell and sent a bolt of electricity zipping from her hands to tear through the two automata.
The Ghaele she had called forth before they began pointed it's fingers at the automata and sent a pair of light beams lancing out at the most damaged of the two .
Then it quickly drew it greatsword and moved in to help take down the last of the clockwork soldiers.
Ema was relieved they had everything they needed as they returned to the central chamber. She listened to what her father had to say and nodded as she agreed, "Yes, we should take the time to rest. There was the one room we came across that should suffice. If you all feel we need to leave and return we should leave the various things we have acquired here with the Inevitable we came across for safe keeping and then return for them when we are ready."
Ema will have her usual False Life up, use 9 reservoir pts to summon a Haele Azata, and consume one 7th level casting to replenish some of the points.

Ema had an idea to help make this fight much easier and she proceeded to put it into motion. She made sure she was close enough to reach all of the elemntals and then chanted and and pulled forth a bit of honeycomb from her component pouch. When she released the magic at the elementals she spoke in the aquan tongue, "She," she pointed to the fiend, "wants us to destroy you! Help us destroy her and I will find a way to send you home!"
The sight of the creature before them was more than a little disturbing. Ema just wish they didn't have to fight her. Unfortuantely that was not going to be an option it seemed. "Such a shame since the only one who would demand our blood is the Veiled Master we seek to stop. It's sad you have fallen so far as to side with those who caused our downfall."
Ema considered what the creature said and tried to recall what it was.
Ema turned and looked at the others and then asked, "Can you all agree to this stipulation? I believe it's request is reasonable and it would be a waste to fight if we don't have to."
Ema stepped forward when they found the inevitable. The being was at least willing to speak with them first and that. It's concerns were quite valid and Ema couldn't help but agree as she said, "I agree with you, some knowledge is far too dangerous and should not be freed. Unfortunately it may be too late. One of the Veiled Masters has gotten into the secured weapons lab underneath the Compass and we need to get down there to stop it from using the weapon to tear apart the planes. We have to get through the failsafe first so we can reach it and hope we are in time." Ema gave the being a serious look as she continued, "I am Emalliandra daughter of Aliandara by Jazradan and to my knowledge I am the last of my people that still live, it is my responsibility to stop this creature and I will stop it or die trying. I ask only that you let us pass to complete what we cam here before. Once we have won do you want us to destroy the weapon?"
Ema was glad the mad Thassilonian was gone from this world, it would make thins so much easier on everyone. As they continued their explorations Ema looked at all they saw, some of it bringing nostalgic memories to her, others making her realize just how depraved her people could be. It was probably for the best that they were gone now. As Simon led them through the chambers in pursuit of the final key Ema found her worry growing. Could things really be this easy, were they going to be able to complete this fight? She truly didn't know and she wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing as they walked through the illusion cloaked room.
Yeah, I have plenty of acid effects, splash and arrow both.
It depends on the ability. I would think you should depending on the spell used.
Ema wasn't about to let this thing win this as she successfully countered his first spell. She quickly fired off a dark ray of energy in hopes it would cause the bastard some problems.
That done Ema was watching for the next spell he would try to cast so she could counter it.
This coming Wednesday through Sunday my posting will be extremely slow to non-existent as I will be at Gencon in Indy and then two weeks after that for the same days it will be slow again for Origins in Ohio. I may be able to sneak some posts in but I wouldn't count on it.
Ema was surprised that the ambassador was still alive but given what they saw of the other two Thassilonians she wasn't surprised to hear he too was a mezlan. Ema spoke and said, "It is nice to see someone else from my own time is still alive and not completely insane like the other two were," she referenced the two they had to kill before. "I am Emalliandra daughter of Aliandara by Jazradan and it is a pleasure to meet you Ambassador Harighal." Ema pondered what the man had asked of the Runelords, she didn't know exactly what had caused their fall so instead she said, "In answer to your question, no the Runelords disappeared and Thassilon fell after Earthfall occurred. I know that Alaznist attempted to rise recently but was thwarted from fullfilling his goal and rumors are that Sorshen slumbers somewhere but no one has ever found her to my knowledge, only a still living clone. Of the others I have heard nothing. It is believed the fall was caused by their infighting and outright feuding during the darkness." Ema sighed at the thought of all that she had missed and at all that had been lost, "Truthfully the world has enough problems without them right now and has only barely begun to push them back. The Worldwound was finally defeated and the abyss pushed back and out of the material plane there. The Whispering Tyrant is still a real threat should he ever figure out how to get free of his imprisonment." Ema's eyes narrowed, "And then there is the current problem, the Veiled Master trying to use a weapon beneath us against the world."
Ema chanted and gestured with one foreclaw and then spat an arrow of acid from her maw at the surviving Mezlan.
Draconic Ema circled the fighting waiting for Terrana to move from between the two creatures. As soon as she was out of the way her chest rumbled as she inhaled and then spat a line of acid at the two creatures.
Ema was shocked by the sudden appearance of the two Thassilonians who worked for Xnaderghul. What they were doing here was beyond her, in fact how long had they been here? Simon tried to calm them but got his facts glaringly wrong prompting one of them to send a blast of lightning rippling through Ema and her friends.
Ema took the full burst, being caught off guard as she was, but fortunately the protections she had in place and Valentin's channeling left her little more than scratched. Ema glared and came to the conclusion they wouldn't listen. "Let me try something!" She began to weave together a spell, pulling shadow stuff to enhance her working, and let loose her spell on the two Thassilonians as her eyes flashed.
Ema saw Simon nearly killed by the flurry of blows from the constructs and knew that she had to thin the herd some more. She hadn't wanted to use another spell of that magnitude again but she felt it was now necessary if they were to survive this fight. Ema cast the same spell again, focusing her primary strike on the construct that seemed the least damaged, and let fly another shadowy chain lightning.
Ema saw the clockwork guards coming and thought they would just be ignored. Unfortunately they weren't and Simon managed to tick them off. Ema was rather cross that they would have to end these constructs but there would now be no choice. Ema chanted and gestured, weaving the magic together, and her eyes flashed as she released a thunderous bolt of lightning that lanced out at the closest clockwork and then forked out to trike at the others as well.
Ema was relieved to see the fiend go down and turned to the angel. "Thank you for your assistance Gadriel. I doubt we will run into trouble again any time soon so please, return to your purpose." With that Ema tore open reality again and the angel nodded and went through. Once the portal snapped closed Ema's eyes flashed as she consumed one of her prepared spells and she began to search the archives. If she remembered right there should be some kind of catalog that would help somewhere. She just needed to find the access.
Ema's eyes widened in shock as the archivist changed into something monstrous and she quickly tried to figure out what it was.
Realizing what she was up against Ema quickly moved back to get out of the range of it's ability to redirect her spells and then tore open a whole in reality to let a summoned creature through.
An angel steps out of the crack with smooth skin, a muscular body, large golden wings, and wielding a large morningstar. It lashed out three times at their monster with the weapon in it's hand.
Ema finally caught on to what was going on when Terana attacked the scholar. The being's own words reached the mage in dawning horror given where she was and she was having none of that! As she stepped forward Ema tore open a crack in space and walked through it so that she would appear behind Simon and Victrix and keep them between her and the archivist. Ema wasn't sure what they were facing so she kept her eyes the archivist and was ready to counter him if he cast anything even as she cast a spell to speed up their perceptions.
Assuming the worst about Simon again, as "siblings" were want to do, Ema shifted and stepped between Simon and the Archivist and glared at the half-orc, "This isn't one of your angry at being out knowledgeds again is it Simon? If it is knock it off." She looked at Terana and then said, "Don't let him drag you into this too, he gets grumpy when he thinks his life's work is being threatened."
