Elyana's shoulders drooped a bit when no one seemed to know what language the mephits spoke/ She had hoped to figure out what was happening from them but as aggressive as they were if she couldn't ultimately talk to them in a shared language it was likely too dangerous to even try. Once they began to move on she took her place in the line as she always did and followed along.
Well, so much for talking to them. I should have just gone ahead and tried language or no.
I think we were waiting to know if anyone knew the right language to talk to them.
Elyana shrugged her shoulders at Zaranna's question and said, "I don't know, it's possible it would feel safe there and not go any further. The only concern is that I don't know if I can actually talk to it. What language would a mephit speak anyway? The only language we might share would be sylvan but I think that it is unlikely to work."
Elyana saw teh mephit flee in fear of them after wiping out it's companions and she found herself wondering, Why are all these mephits down here anyway? It was strange, especially since they were somehow trapped, and she found herself wanting to know what was going on here. This all seemed unnatural to Elyana and she wanted to get to the bottom of it. "We never thought to ask the mine owner why the mephits were here or how they got here did we?" She looked at her companions questioningly and then added, "I think there is something going on that he didn't tell us. These mephits seem angry about something and that is odd, I didn't think elemental creatures generally got angry." Elyana looked to where the mephit had disappeared and then said, "I want to try something before we push on, I want to try and talk to the creature. I don't know if we can speak a language in common or not but it is worth a try,"
When one of the mephit's made it through the line to reach her and Zaranna Elyana gave a cry of pain at the sudden deluge of rocks that slammed into her.
Elyana was not shocked when another wave of mephits came for them. The bastards were persistent if nothing else and she could only hope that they would be running low in number by now. She chanted and gestured and once more an arc of electricity leapt from her fingers to hit first one and then another of the attacking elementals.
Elyana was nervous being underground hunting creatures that could move through the stone and appear from anywhere. Fortunately Alric had a good sense of when the creature's would attack them as he yet again gave them warning. Elyana chanted and gestured as she sent an arc of electricity leaping from her hand to hit the mephit to the right that then leapt to the one straight ahead.
With the fight over Elyana gave a slight flourish of her sword as she hummed a tune, "Duhduhduhduh duhnuhn duhn duhduhn," before slid it into it's sheathe across her back. Elyana looked to Cadren and nodded as she said, "I am fine and it looks like all of you only have minor scrapes and bruises." Once the others began to move, Elyana did too staying in formation as they went.
With the mefits still standing Elyana watched in worry as the wounds she inflicted seemed to get better on the one before her. She quickly lashed out thrice more in rapid succession at her target.
Elyana realized that he mephit behind her did something when it suddenly grew in size drastically and didn't like the looks of this. It was too close to her and she couldn't go anywhere so she decided it was time to see if she learned what her father taught her. Elyana pulled her curve blade free and lashed out once and twice in rapid succession.
Elyana was not about to let these little bastards get a chance to do any more than she could prevent. She focused on the one that Zarana hurt and chanted and gestured sending an arc of electricity from her hands to zap the mephit and bounce to the next closest one. ◆◆ electric arc
Elyana was disturbed to see Fel and Vei being unable to enter the mine but she understood things like this happened sometimes. She looked back at her two friends and said, "We'll be back as soon as we can." With that Elyana turned and followed the others into the mine, reaching over her shoulder to make sure her blade was loose and easily drawn if she needed it.
Unfortunate but yeah. I would recommend we find a way that we can easily bring her back if she had something unexpected going on though. Life happens sometimes after all.
Elyana, as usual, had her hood up as they went to the mines. She decided it was worth being magnanimous and letting the others do the talking for the moment so she let Zaranna have the lead. She decided that her friend did a passable job and decided to let any critiques pass...for now. That the mine supervisor would be the gnomes they had caused so much trouble for the night before should have surprised Elyana but truthfully it did not. It seemed to be the way of things sometimes. They were able to quickly reach an agreement, one that seemed acceptable. If they didn't have the mess from the night before hanging over them she would have haggled for more. The mine supervisor was too eager with that sum and she was sure they could have gotten a higher payout. It was best not to push their luck though so she calmly accepted the bargain without comment. As they prepared to leave Elyana turned to Illa and curtsied gracefully to her as she said, "It was our mistake and I hope you can forgive us. May the green bless you and your husband with as many children as you wish." With that Elyana rose and turned to leave the place with her friends and enter the mines.
When they arrived at the temple of the First Hunter Elyana felt a wash of comfort come over her at being surrounded by what seemed more of a druid's grove than a temple in the traditional sense. The Cult of the Green drew many of its traditions and beliefs from druidic circles, some of them even were druids, and she had always felt more comfortable in such settings given her fey heritage. The man who came to speak with them didn't look much like a priest but Elyana knew better, He was a priest of Aruuc and they always had a more hunter look to them than most priests she came across. When the man said he didn't know who Kristoff was Elyana was a bit suspicious but she said nothing at the time. Cadren's question about dealing with shadow beings was a bit unexpected to Elyana, she hadn't expected him to say anything about it but knowing that positive energy would hurt them was a great benefit since she could use such energy against them.
When they left Elyana considered Cadren's question about why the priest didn't know Kristoff. It was a valid point, though she could come up with at least a few reasons why and said, "Maybe he is not all that devout and does not attend services, maybe he has taken to worshiping another deity, maybe he attends in a different location at a druid's grove or something?" Elyana sighed and said, "It could also be that he lied and something else is going on here, though I don't get the sense that he did so." Once they met back up with the others and were ready to discuss what they found out Elyana said, "We didn't learn much, the priest claims he does not know who Kristoff is but that may be as simple as Kristoff not attending services or attending elsewhere. We did learn that shadow creatures are often vulnerable to positive energy so we may be able to fight them off better in the future."
Elyana was already awake when the others stirred that morning. She had felt those eyes on her again but she had no idea where they were coming from. Breakfast arrived and she sat down to enjoy the meal while they discussed their plans. She was a little leery of splitting up but figured they would be safe enough as long as they stayed in town. "That plan sounds good Carden. We just all need to be careful and not leave town without the others," Elyana said, "I think we can all agree that we may not be safe anywhere given what happened at the wedding."
Elyana was noticeably uncomfortable with staying in the common room but she decided it was best to stay there with the others for safety if nothing else. Besides, she was sure they wouldn't let anything happen to her. She pulled out her part of the payment and gave it to Zarana before looking for a place where she could be against a wall or solid furniture to avoid anyone sneaking up on her to claim for her place. "That sounds like it will work to me Alric." Elyana said. She didn't bother to change but rather set up her bedroll and crawled inside before using her pack as a rather lumpy pillow. "Wake me when it is my shift." With that Elyana quickly dropped off to sleep.
Elyana took the money that each of her friends offered to her and added some of her own then said, "Excuse me a moment." Elyana went inside the tavern and approached the barkeep. Once she had their attention she said, "My friend's and I feel bad about ruining the gnomish woman and her fiance's evening. We took a collection amongst ourselves and want to take care of their room and board. What ever of," she handed over the money, "this isn't needed for that, please give it to them with our compliments and apologies."
When Elyana heard about what the gnome was really up to she blushed and giggled in amusement at the situation. To think this was just a misunderstanding of a lover's kink! She felt really bad about what they'd just done now that they knew the truth and sighed as she said, "We should really do something to make up for interrupting that you know." Elyana looked over at Zaranna after she came back with the information and watched the gnome scurry off in terror and go back into the tavern. She spoke to her friends and said, "We should offer to pay for their room and board to make up for what we interrupted. I know we had no way to know but still, it is the polite thing to do."
Elyana nodded in agreement with the plan and let Alric go. She noticed the gnome start to rise and then fall down drunk. She rolled her eyes and watched the half-orc pick the gnome up and take him to his room before coming back downstairs. Once Zaranna rose to head to the inn Elyana got up to go with her. She looked up when the "assassin was spotted climbing the inn. She made sure she was within range and cast a spell. From her outstretched hands a sixty foot long blast of air shot at the climbing assassin.
Elyana shook her head and said, "I haven't Zaranna. But then I've been trying not to draw too much attention to myself."
Elyana saw the town ahead and felt great relief and trepidation all at the same time. She'd never been to this place before and she was always nervous going to new towns.Her hood was pulled forward to help hide her face and she decided to stay silent for now. Fidning another person from one of their dreams did not shock Elyana, they had found one from her's after all. With the group splitting up Elyana stuck with Alric and Cardren.
Cool, a second healing wave will do us a lot of good when it comes to healing.
...well I completely misread that section! Alright, that actually changes the value significantly. I thought, for some reason, that they only went level 1-5. Life abilities aren't all that weak after all! WOOT!
I did, I just got the terms swapped around. this is what I have noted down for it: Pendant of the Green (relic lvl 1: healing wave) A pendant of round amber wrapped in living wood on a spidersilk cord. Also, I now have a description of it in my last post.
With the defeat of their attackers Elyana felt a wash of relief, one that was especially potent because of the death of the leader of the group. The bastard was one of those who had come for her in her dream and the terror of that dream was only slightly lessened now that one of the bastards was dead. When the body rose and spoke to them though Elyana felt fear greater than any she'd felt since that terrible day they killed the Piper and their friend was taken from them. The way the voice spoke let her know this was far from over as an explosion of darkness swept over them all. The darkness was stifling to Elyana, trying to smother out all life starting at the mark on her arm, and just when she couldn't take it any longer her pendant began to glow. The round piece of amber wrapped in living wood fed by the power of The Green fought back and pushed the darkness from her in a spray of pure positive energy dispelling the death that came for her. Elyana's hand went the pendant and she offered a prayer of thanks to The Green for protecting her. When she was done Elyana looked at her friends and said, "We know now that the people in the dreams are real, he," she gestured at where the ringleader's remains were, "was one of the three that tried to..." she shuddered back from the memory of the dream, "he was one of them and now he is dead." Elyana looked to Vei and asked, "Is it possible that these dreams are of the future or a possible future? If so does that mean we can disrupt them and change their course?"
There, I added "Pendant of the Green" and gave it the artifact trait with the life spray minor gift. Have to figure out how to describe the pendant but I can worry about that a bit later. My character shee should be done now and I think I have my stat lines updated correctly as well. Since no one else seems to have taken restoration my spells are set as well.
Hmmm, thinking on it a blade for what I am taking makes little sense. I don't have it on my equipment list (I just never thought about it) but I am thinking I should carry some kind of "holy symbol" used by the Cult of the Green. That makes much more sense as a focus for such an ability. Do you mind if I add that to my equipment list?
Using the curve blade since I had it in hand when this happened and since weapon damage will never be my main thing.
Hmmm, I think I'll take the Healing Wave gift. Yeah, it's rather weak, but it is usable 24 times a day so that adds up. Also, working on spell selections. I get 2nd level spells and am looking at calm emotions (bls), restoration, acid arrow (ss). I have no choice on calm emotions but resto and acid arrow are swapable. Is someone else going to have resto? If so then I will likely take something else for that one but I figure acid arrow will be a decent damaging spell for me and as my 2nd level signature spell will auto heighten when I want it to later on. I also went with heal for my 1st level signature spell and am swapping chill spray for gust of wind.
Elyana was not letting the archer get away so easily, she was faster than him and she knew it. She quickly moved, far faster than a human could, and took a slash with the blade held in her hands. ◆ Move
Elyana couldn't get close enough to cast a spell on any of the enemies at the moment so she quickly began to move closer and drew her curve blade. ◆ move
Elyana sent a jag of lightning arcing between the nearest enemies and then moved to put the bulk of a tree between her and the archers to the east.
I can edit. I found what I have to do is select my initials and cut then paste them where I want to be.
Elyana moved into the protection of the center of their group when she heard there were more enemies out there. She chanted and gestured then sent a sticky vine flying at the nearest enemy.
As they proceeded on their way to Ruby Hollow Elyana found the walk pleasant. Birds were chirping, the weather was nice, and overall things were going splendidly. Well they had been anyway until the dwarves showed up. They looked like the ones from the attack on the wedding and she felt positive they were connected. Then she saw the bare chested man in the cloak. Elyana whimpered and said, "No, it's not you, you can't be real." She moved back, putting her friends between her and the man. She was terrified of the man and was trying to convince herself he couldn't be real. She couldn't even focus enough to try and cast a spell at him as she tried not to break into a run and flee. If he were here and real then she was sure his brothers were too and they likely wouldn't be far off.
Elyana felt her face pale at what Fel repeated to them from her vision. Were they all experiencing the same kind of thing? Was her own dream something from this monster? For most of the dream it had seemed that way but...no, there was no way what she had seen was entirely that monster. Elyana decided she should share her own dream from a few days ago. "I didn't want to talk about the dream I had, it was...," she shuddered at the remembered hands upon her, "I was bathing in a pond in a forest, I'm not sure where it was, and had just gotten out when three men accosted me." Elyana gulped and felt the terror of that dream and what they were about to d to her swept through her. "They tried to take advantage of my state but I managed to run. They chased me down with these hounds and when I submitted to save my life from the hounds the dogs became the men!" Elyana's eyes became haunted as she spoke of her dream, "The things they said, what they intended for me, I...I don't want to think about." She seemed to calm a bit as she continued, "Then a red haired elven man arrived, he killed the three monsters before they could do more than lay a hand on me. He took me into his arms and I felt such comfort in his embrace as he asked if I was alright." She looked at Fel and Zaranna, "Then I woke up when you roused me for my shift." Elyana looked at Fel and Vei as she asked, "Could the elven man have been celestial being of some kind protecting me?"
Elyana hadn't been disturbed by any other dreams since the first one and, though it had been terrifying and left her skin crawling, it ultimately hadn't been all bad. She considered and then shook her head, "No, I think I'll be fine. I haven't had another one and it..." she shuddered a bit but quickly relaxed as she remembered the very end of it, "it wasn't all bad at least."
Elyana nodded her thanks to the dryad and said, "Thanks you cousin, that's more than we had to work with before. We will make sure to go to Polaris when we can since I think that is the place you speak of." Before they left the grove Elyana asked the dryad, "Would you mind if I came and visited you again when we finish our quest? I would love to find out more about our family and my fey ancestry."
As they traveled and found the day winding down Elyana began to keep her eyes open for a place to camp.
Elyana was surprised at what she was told by the dryad and, even more so, what she was told in secret. She resolved to keep those words strictly to herself as she understood full well what she had been entrusted with. Impulsively Elyana reached out to hug the dryad as she said, "Thank you cousin. I understand." to drayd:
When Elyana leaned in to hug the dryad she said just as softly, "Chan eil fios agam an obraich e an aon rud dhòmhsa ach nì mi an aon tairgse ann an taic. Ma tha thu a-riamh ann an èiginn cuir fios air m ’ainm Elyana Casaris Faervald."
Stepping back from her "cousin" Elyana said, "We are trying to track down and defeat a being that attacked us as children eight years ago. It marked us and took one of our friends as a.host? The being was shadow like outside of a body and it seemed to be in complete control of our friend when it took her. The thing has returned once more and we are determined to defeat it and get our friend back. We have seen two different marks but the one we bear is this," she shifted the jewelry she wore on her wrists to hide the ugly mark and turned her wrist so her cousin could see it. "Do you have any idea who or what the thig might have been and what these do to us or know someone who could help?"
Elyana was pleased that they managed to get the dray back to her grove safely and was delighted to see her wake up. When the green woman asked to be put down so she could walk Elyana stayed next to her, just in case, and otherwise let her walk under her own power. Once they reached the grove and the dryad was fully revitalized it brought a smile to the elf's lips. Elyana stepped forward to accept the potions and said, "My thanks Lady of the Tree." She tucked the potions away for now, they could figure out what to do with them later on. [b}"If I may I have a question for you. "[/b]
Elyana was glad they chose to stay in their camp for the night before heading out in the morning and, while she knew it likely wouldn't help any, she lay the Dryad out in her bedroll and crawled in with her hoping that the contact with one who shared a connection with her would help the ailing fey woman survive. Elyana drifted quickly off to sleep with her arms wrapped around the dryad to hold her close and quickly found herself embroiled in a nightmare of terrifying proportions. She held the dryad through the night like the woman was her only anchor to the waking world and had just barely started to calm when she was woken up for her watch. Elyana looked up at Zaranna and Fel in what could only be described as abject terror for a moment. Fortunately the feeling of the dryad close by helped to ground Elyana and she recognized her friends after a moment. What ever she had just dreamed it was obvious that it was terrifying and left Elyana badly shaken.
When everyone was woke up Elyana was still keeping watch. She was sitting next to her bedroll gently stroking the dryad's hair with her sword hilt kept close by her other hand in case it was needed as she stared out into the trees. Elyana hadn't stirred the fire this morning, too distracted to even think about it, as she did her best to keep watch.
Elyana closed her eyes and tried to touch on that connection she had felt with the dryad before. She hoped that it would do something to tell her the woman's state and what she felt was dire but it wasn't quite as bad as it could be. "I think we have a couple of days to get her back to her tree. We could sleep and leave in the morning which might be advisable. It's not safe to walk through the forest at night if you don't need to."
Elyana shook her head and said, "I don't think so, I tried casting a healing spell earlier and it didn't seem to do much."
Elyana was surprised to hear what the woman was and she quickly resolved to help as well. "I feel like she is family to me, I felt it since we got close to her, and I won't let her die." She looked to Alric and said, "If you can show us the way please do."
