About Elessa Mithrandir
Inspired by Gwendoline Christie
Paladins are honorable beings. Lawful, kind, wholesome but above all honorable…perhaps to a fault.
Elessa Mithrandier was once a member of the Golden Knights of Iomedae, an entirely Elven organization of swordsmen and paladins dedicated to spreading the light of their god throughout the world. In the land of Lastwall, they are highly regarded for their glorious dedication to the goddess. They are seen as lawbringers and judges, who hold order above all else.
It is this dedication to law that first brought Elessa into conflict with the tenets of her religion and later her sword brothers.
Two years ago, a plague took hold in the countryside and the people of Lastwall were overwhelmed and the Golden Knights were among the knightly orders who responded to the crisis. The disease was terrible and wreaked havoc on the peasant classes. Elessa was horrified to see such suffering, the six days she was deployed to the plague zone were some of the most difficult of her life. The pain, the anguish, it nearly broke her.
But as the crisis dragged on, Elessa saw the toll it took on her sword brothers and sisters. Eventually, she saw the Abbott Marshal of the Golden Knights coming to a terrible conclusion: that the only way to heal the sick was to end their suffering. Permanently. That morning, the Golden Knights assembled on a hill above a plague stricken village and they prepared to ride through the valley and execute the sickened.
In that moment, Elessa’s conscience got the best of them and she insisted that the Abbott Marshal, the leader of her order, please reconsider his actions. He refused and called Elessa a traitor. Words were exchanged, blades were drawn, and Elessa soon found herself standing over the dead body of her master, the man who practically raised her.
The Golden Knights disbanded but not before every member of her former order swore out a warrant for her arrest. Lastwall, the homeland of Iomedae worshippers, was now denied to her.
Wanted for murder and disgraced, Elessa knew that there was only one place left for her: The Pathfinder Society, where the lost and the broken could find new purpose in a life of deadly adventure.
