Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

I etherealy traveled through the floor, of course. Heavy falling objects don't concern me!

And I just remembered that the glove is broken. Crap.

Elena then sees the domino chain of shelves falling all over the place. Quickly she slams her glove against the bookcase toppling onto her and flips a switch. "Executing phase shift!" Nothing happens. "Bloody Ohm! It's still shorted out! Plan b!" A hasty toggle of a different switch, and the magnetic reversal field fixes the bokkcase in place long enough to duck out of the way.

Plan B, Baby!: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 6) + 2 = 14

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Whew, sorry about that. Had the flu amd then there was a death in my girlfriend's family.

Elena phases from the floor behind the cloaked man and shoots a beam of fire from her goggles!

Using a Charge to Hack and Slash with Int.
Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Heh, I looked at the Prisoner Monk and I guess it's my turn to sniff at a playbook. I don't like Meditation. +1s are the worst thing to write into a DW class in my opinion. But I'm not the one running it, so no big deal to me.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Yeah, you don't need to roll to use a Gadget, but you do need to roll to get out of a tight spot. The only times I've used it so far have been to walk through a hail of arrows and drag the Herald through a wall before being squished.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Huh, I like Signature Style. To each their own I guess.\

On a side note, I think I have a surprised planned for Bikke when I level, assuming Loopy lets me.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

I have to say I'm loving the Artificer, but I've noticed that Charge is a massively limiting factor. Especially when Volleying, since it's one Charge to use Int and another to spend as Ammo.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Elena climbs onto the buried golem and phases her hands into its head. "Let's see, cross this wire here, and we'll remove this gear, and this switch should be off… Hahahaha! It worked!" Elena points towards the source of the noises, and the golem dutifully sets off, albeit twitching quite a bit.

The golem is mine! Ahahahaha! The is a quirk or complication though.
Jury-Rig: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 5) + 2 = 8

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

The writer demonstrates some good knowledge of wushu fiction (the upgraded armor move Testicle Eight Outstanding Techniques may have a bizarre name, but that's a literal translation from an Iron Body manual), it gets the idea of a monk across without aping d20 concepts like some others I've seen, and there's a G Gundam reference in one of the moves and I love that show.

Yeah, it's about 50% reskinned fighter, but that is essentially what a monk is. There are a few moves I dislike in it, which is why I rewrote them for my personal use. Mostly the training others moves, I wasn't a fan of the +1 bonuses.

Not reusing concepts from d20 is probably the biggest reason I prefer it. That's the same reason I love the Barbarian. I've seen a couple playbooks that got hung up on making a Rage move work, when I think it's more important to get the flavor across instead. That's also why I prefer the Mage and Priest books, the originals have too much in common with d20 Vancian magic for my taste.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Aw Loopy, I love the Initiate.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

"I need some juice! Grommy, don't move!" Elena runs up and snatches the glowing orb from Gromroir and hooks it to her backpack gizmos.

Using the power thingy to recharge in a hurry.
Jury-Rig: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 1) + 2 = 4
Ugh, 1 XP at least.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

That's rough.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Elena wobbles back to her feet and looks at tbe fleeing golems. "Oh no you don't!" Elena gives chase while reconfiguring a few switches on her magnetic reversal belt. Supercharging the field it produces and reversing the polarity, she extends its effects and slows the golems to a crawl as they get ensnared in the magnetic field. "Grommy, quick! Grab them!"

Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Field Test: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
I'll put someone in a spot and the effects will be temporary.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Just call me Jeff Goldblum! For my next trick, I'll light a torch and run around to attract the golems.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

I did choose to draw attention to myself, that might help her out.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Hey, don't forget the acid I shot at them!

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Jump onto a golem's head. They're tall, so it shouldn't be too far of a drop. Plus it would be awesome.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Elena levels her alchemic emitter pistol at the golems advancing on the Herald and sprays a gout of acid towards them.

Volley: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (2, 6) - 1 = 7
Damage, 2 piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 2
I'll put myself in danger.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Woo! Nethack! Wizard need food, badly!

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Maniacal laughter

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Elena chuckles as she pulls a transmitter out of the golem's head. "Ha ha ha! Boom!"

Mass Destruction!: 1d8 ⇒ 8
What the hell, let's do it!

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Hmm, tempted to just zap everything. However, the 10+ result for Jury-Rig prevents any major side effects. If I'd just hit a 7-9 I'd take the damage, but I aced that roll.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Gromroir did start coming down from the wall, unless something interrupts him I should have access to the Orb now.

DM Loopy wrote:

Damn, I hate to do this, but I just remembered something. One - Grommy is at the top of the watchtower - you aren't. That means the orb is there too. Second, even if he was down where you were - YOU JUST RAN THROUGH THE WALL.

I wish I didn't have to say this because it's a cool idea, but yes. Need to have a thing to use a thing.

So what you're saying is that when Grommy comes down here or tosses me the eye, that cool stuff will happen ;)

Planar conduit? Eureka! Elena grabs the glowing sphere and runs over to one of the shattered golems, pulling some wires out of her pack as she goes. "See, this rock pulls power from somewhere in a nice slow trickle, just enough to run whatever is hooked to it. But conduits work in both directions! I'll just hook some pumps to draw a bit of power from it, and put it in this golem chassis to imprint the power signature on it. Then I flip this switch and the trans-planar energy pumps reverse, sucking all the golems' energy into, I don't know, wherever." Elena has been furiously hammering stuff together and stringing wires all over. Finally she hoists a repurposed golem arm into the air as an antenna. "Entropic Golem Destabilizer, initial proof-of-concept test, engage!" Elena plugs in a big red button and slaps it with a manic grin.

Jury-Rig: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4) + 2 = 11
Haha! Golem off button!

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Nah, I just need 'a short break' to regain all my Charge, and we have a bottomless supply of power right now. So I figured it could make a short break even shorter. I'll make up some technobabble in a bit.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Elena grabs the Herald's wrist and sprints towards the wall. "Just don't freeze me, OK?" The artificer slaps her gauntlet on the wall as the coils on it start pulsing. "Here we go, phase shift!" Elena and the Herald slip right through the stones with a buzzing sound. On the other side, Elena looks at her glove and sighs. "Ugh, circuits are fried. That'll be a day or so. My Modrova coils are empty too." She frowns, then bounces over to Gromroir. "That thing's a battery, right? Let me see here." Elena grabs a cable from her backpack and touches it to the ball. ZAPPP! "Woo, I think that worked!"

Field Test: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7
The effect is short-lived, drains my reserves, and the glove shorts out.

I'd also like to know who made the eyeball thingy.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

You mean rolling+Con to defend, but describing it magically? I'd vote yes. Don't forget you can do other stuff with magic, as long as it doesn't empower life or show generosity. There's a slight penalty to do it, but it is possible.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

"That golem was pretty cool, eh Grommy? Personally I'd have made it out of steel, nice and shiny." Elena looks around and realises she had paid no attention to the directions to their target whatsoever. "Hey Grommy, where are we supposed to be going?"

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

"Yeah, go Bikke! Arr!" Elena looks around for a moment. "We should probably leave now. Let's go!" Elena heads off deeper into the Skyruin.

"Go Bikke! Arr!" Elena watches the golem teeter towards her, "Uh oh." She quickly slaps a button on her belt and braces for impact. The air around her ripples as the reversal field expands around her, holding the golem's inert body and plucked eye in mid-air. "Better grab the rock and get out quick, this won't hold long!"

Field Test: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4) + 2 = 11
The effect is short-lived and temporary.

The reversal belt repels small objects normally, but in a pinch it will repel bigger stuff for a short time.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Pfft, you guys make it seem like this thing could one-shot any one of us. Back in Frogfoot's goblin campaign, I died three times in the first adventure. I think it might even have been in the same day... Good times.

It's a big, dumb robot. We have a short, smart robot, and we outnumber it 6-1. We got this easy.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

I have a bad feeling Loopy's about to be mean to me :P

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

"Pfft, arrows? Try something more advanced next time!" Elena flips a switch on her gauntlet, and blue sparks spring to life across it. "Executing phase shift, baby!" The artificer fades into translucency as she enters the ethereal plane, allowing physical objects to pass right through her. Heedless of the golem's hail of bolts, she strides forward and sends a jet of flame out of her goggles, unfortunately she hasn't tested the goggles while phased...

Field Test: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 6) + 2 = 11
Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (2, 4) + 0 = 6
The ectoplasmic field glove makes me incorporeal now, stuff goes right through me. Spending 1 Charge to do so.

Why can't the dice roller be as nice to me as it is to the players on my table? Have you seen those rolls?

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

"Toothless gears, that thing is awesome! And trying to kill us, that's bad. Eat acid, baby!" Elena raises her alchemical emitter cannon and sprays a stream of flourescent green liquid at the golem.

Volley: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 2 = 9
Damage, 2 Piercing: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Spend 1 Charge to Volley with Int, and I'll put my self in danger unless someone wants to Aid me.

Donjon and Seventh Sanctum, my favorite idea mines. Never leave home without them. The NPC Instincts and Knacks tables from the Dungeon World appendix are nice too, I've used them for NPCs in all sorts of games. Most notably an Apocalypse World gang, eight named gang members, each one with some defining characteristic, made up in a few rolls. One of them thought she was psychic, that led to all sorts of trouble since she wasn't...

Wow, now I feel lazy. I mostly just make up rough ideas for steadings and notable people around the first session, then just make stuff up as I go. Write down cool stuff that the PCs or I say, then run through previous notes to make sure I don't contradict anything.

Kudos on all the planning, it sounds pretty awesome.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

I believe we're fast-forwarding past the bar now, and going straight to when things go bad on the job. We all took the mission, else we wouldn't be here, so why not go straight to murdering?

Also, awesome. Death-golem with crossbow hands. Dibs once it stops trying to murder us.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

That was the goal. Elena is rather over-excited and lacking in good sense, add in Terestia's pic of the city with the big floating section and I just had to go the Borderlands Sanctuary route. Plus that would be awesome!

"I already know flying like a bird doesn't work, but maybe flying like a stone would! With a little time, I'll make the Skyruin truly mobile! Put some cannons on it, figure out a bigger magnetic reversal belt that's city-sized, and the nobles of Hohenheim will throw money at me for creating the greatest war machine ever! Hahahaha!"

Crafting of all types is the most common trade. Talented smiths, cunning weavers, bizzare artists, if it is made by mortal hands, the best is found here. Most non-crafting pursuits are less common, Hohenheim isn't really known for cuisine, animals, or scholarship.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Wow. I need to digest this.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Flashback it! We start on site, doing stuff, and if we want to reference the bar scene we can just toss some 'This isn't how I thought it would go', or 'Hey, remember when...?' bits in. I think the bar recruiting scene was cool, but as a recruiting and getting to know the characters thing. Let's just jump in to the action and see what happens.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

• You've made a lot of gadgets over time. They tend to have a few "minor technical issues", but they're safe, really! But what's the one that you just can't get to work? The one incredibly promising gadget that you just cannot give up on? What would you need to get it running?
† The Time Lens! Pretty sure that looking a short time into the future is possible, but a super-pure, flawless, fresh-from-the-volcano piece of obsidian hasn't been easy to come by. Every attempt so far has destroyed the lens and had really bad side effects. Where do you think her left eye went?

• On another note, what's your biggest disaster as far as gadgets go? Would it even be WORTH trying that again, or was it just dumb and pointless to make in the first place?
† Other than the Lens, flying wasn't super successful. People just don't seem to have the same knack for it as birds. But it's always worth trying! Nothing is a bad idea!

• What do you intend to do modify the Myrmidon Armour with the first chance you get? Just one mod wouldn't hurt, right?
† Grappling hands! Detachable hands with rockets in 'em and retracting cables. Grab dudes from over there, and bring 'em back for squishing. You can also use 'em for locomotion, if you aren't into squishing or whatever.

• What's your goal with these inventions? Marketing to the general public? Getting funded by a company or government body to create for them? Or just having a load of cool stuff all your own? Whatcha thinking?
† Just toys. Everyone else is just too concerned with 'safety' and 'quality control'. Boring! Just make cool stuff and see what works! Or at least doesn't kill you.

• How do you feel about being an assassin? Being paid to kill? Because you can't back out of the job now you've taken it.
† Eh, Elena probably won't be the one to kill whoever. Grommy seems way more motivated to do it. Besides, it sounds like this dude pissed off enough people that someone would waste him eventually. Might as well get paid in the process.

This is awesome. Gage was my favorite from Borderlands 2, and is obviously an inspiration. I will definitely be building a mecha-golem around level 6 or so.

• How were you convinced to do Strom's dirty work? Were you bribed Blackmailed? Deceived? Several of these factors? Different ones entirely?
† Deceived mostly. Elena was just told someone was interested in her ethereal field glove, and that there was excellent pay in the making. Coin buys more parts and toys, so she signed up.

• How familiar are you with your employer? Have you done any work for them before?
† Who?

• Where were you when you were recruited, and who were you recruited by?
† Elena was testing the use of her ethereal field as a method of surviving extreme falls. Maybe phasing through the ground would help? It didn't. But she did fall on a sketchy looking dude who offered her a job.

• Is this the first time you've been hired to kill?
"We're doing what!? I mean, I've sprayed people with acid and set them on fire, but that was different. No one got hurt. I mean, I wasn't paid to hurt them, it was just a side effect."

Oh yeah, that's fine.

Linky

Credit goes to Gromroir for the name.

New bond!
• The Herald is super creepy! I don't want to hear what they think is in store for me.

Female Human Artificer 1.5 | HP 8/17 | Damage 1d8 | Armor 1 | Charge 2

Howdy! Here's the description for Elena, and some initial bond stuff.

Description:
Elena is a short, slender woman with a nasty scar in place of her left eye. She has brunette hair that's spiky and a bit scorched. Strips of bandages are wound around her arms and legs, covering assorted burns and scrapes from her tinkering. She has a backpack full of tools, a strange metal glove on her right hand with switches on the back, a small pistol connected by a hose to a tank of green goo on her back, a belt with large metal disks affixed to it, and weird goggles with a couple knobs on them. Her clothes are reinforced with leather patches and waterproofed fabric.

Elena is fiendishly clever and smart, and very out going, but rather clumsy and less than grounded in common sense.

Bonds
• Gromroir is a typical grumpy dwarf. I will get him to praise one of my gizmos in a hyperbolic way.
• I think Gromroir should trust me to tinker with his Myrmidon suit.
• ???
• ???

I just realised I've been misspelling Grommy's name everywhere :|

Monday for mine, don't like starting over the weekend.

I do enjoy the drider book actually. The implications that a PC drider brings are fun! Plus driders are awesome.
