M Halforc Bard/2

Merry Christmas everyone.

I'm a bit confused about what is happening. I tought we still had to go out the gate, but now we disappeared?

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder nods at Janiven and lowers his voice as well.

Very well, let's go in that case. I'll go first, just in case... Don't stay too far behind, allright?

Egder starts walking towards the gate, hoping it will pass as smooth as Janiven said it would be.

M Halforc Bard/2

Egbert observes the guards, then watches his companions.

So, this is where we need to bluff ourselves a way out? They don't seem to pay much attention, shall we just move past them or do you prefer a more subtile approach? I could provide a small distraction if you like.

Perception on the guards1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder carefully observes who is going where, and then makes his choice.

I think I'll go with Coran and Moondark to the gates in that case.

He looks at them.

If you'll tolerate my company off course. If you do, let's go.

M Halforc Bard/2

I got disguise skills and UMD, for your info ;-)

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder nods.

I like the plan. I should be able to disguise my features quite easily, especially with these provided masks. I should manage to create something for the second part as well. How do you think recruits would react if an enraged eagle flies at them? This would give us time to escape I think.

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder nods at the people present.

Greetings everyone. Apologies for the noise earlier, it won't happen again. I am Egder, well met. It is good more people look to change something but I agree caution is best.

He listens to the story.

It would be best setting up a trap in that case. Do we know their route?

M Halforc Bard/2

Sorry, had some busy days and gave gameplay priority.

You can contact me at dm.raging.bull[@]gmail.com, I use it for my own campaign as well.

Backstory isn't adapted yet, sorry Xianae, I'll do that soon.

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder accepts Xianae's hand and gets on his feet. When Janiven growls at them, he lowers his head as to apologise, but says nothing. At the same time, he carefully obvserves all the new faces and gives a polite nod with his head.

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder falls backwards on the ground, but is quick enough to lift his falchion and grab the sword with both hands to block the axe.

Hm. Perhaps we should call this a draw?

M Halforc Bard/2

Egder grins when Xianae utters her frustration, and tries to keep parrying and dodging her attacks. Every now and then he makes a counterattack to remind her not to forget her own defense, but so far she managed that.

Keep practising, I'll stop moving when I'm dead. Also, just an idea, but maybe you shouldn't scream. This is still a safehouse, but I'd hate to loose the "safe" part because of a particular loud duel.

M Halforc Bard/2

DM:
Thanks for checking, changes made.

Xianae:
Looking great. I'll adapt my backstory by tomorrow to put my version of those events in.

M Halforc Bard/2

Xianae:

Sounds good! One thing to adapt tough: creating a weapon or armor is not Egder's stuff. His stay in the smithery gave him experience with assisting the smith, but not in creating weapons or armor himself. Didn't give him ranks in craft or profession either. I would have if I intended making him a smith himself.

Perhaps we can turn it around? Giving Xianae an edge over Egder? So far I don't have a reason to know any magic, perhaps Xianae taught him how to use his inborn talent?

M Halforc Bard/2

Xianae:
Sure, feel free to use any NPC or location or part of my story. I'm really open to any random encounter, as long it's a something casual. Customer in the smithy he used to work, other servant/slave somewhere, something with Sarenrae maybe?

I don't know what you're planning, but anything alike sounds good to me.

Lookin' forward to play the rivalry, both having an arcane/melee combo makes it rather interesting.

M Halforc Bard/2

Just make him butcher an equal amount of enemies and you'll hear no complaints from me ;-)

M Halforc Bard/2

Other half-orc reporting for duty!

Xianae, with two halforcs being in the same organisation, with common goals in a hostile city, it would make sense to me if they had talked before. If you're ok with that, tell me what you'd like. I'd prefer a friendship or a healthy rivalry.

Thanks for the chance to play, looking forward to it!

Thank you. Ties should be allright. I deepened the story a bit. I'm having a little trouble* updating his profile so I'll post in here a good description as well.

*: I would swear I wrote out everything from his profile earlier today, when I wrote that post. Looking at it now, it seems nothing saved. Lucky I did on a .txt file...

Egder:

Backstory:

Egder is a halforc bard coming from the southern lands of Katapesh. He is a blade dancer and does a good job at entertaining his crowd with oratory, but always performs masked as not to scare the spectators.

Abandoned as a child, he was raised in a temple of Sarenrae. He was gratefull for the kind atmosphere and started to worship the Dawnflower. He also liked the swordplay in the temple, but prefered a bigger sword as the scimitars the priests were practising with. He joined the exercises with a falchion, a gift of one of the other halforcs residing in the temple. Because of his difficulties adapting the scimitar moves to those of the falchion, he was reprimanded often not to "dance" but to fight. Yet he started to take a liking to the strange movements and continued them. This got him out of the temple, but by the time he was out he managed to put up a show and managed to survive from the income of his masked performances.

An injury made his life difficult. When he accidently cut his leg while dancing ten years ago, he ran out of money rather quickly and he had to sell himself in slavery to avoid death from starvation. He sold himself to a Chelian Noble for ten years and was transported to Westcrown to entertain him, his family and their guests. Once his wound healed, he did a fine job at that. He impressed his master, Jontas Khollarix* and his family in such a way that they invited other noble family's to see him. Once, he was even allowed a performance in the Golden Palace*. This way, he was introduced to various Westcrown nobles. Jontas insisted he would remain masked tough, to put up the appearance he was human. He also had to make sure he hid his worship of Sarenrae, as he found her religion to be unaccepted in House Khollarix.

His ten years of slavery ended six months ago, but he didn't find the taste of freedom as good as he had imagined. He didn't dare to perform his blade dancing on the streets out of fear for Asmodeus' clergy, who would be able to recognise the similarity of his dance with the swordstyle of Sarenrae clerics. He also could not enjoy favours of the nobles he danced for since none would recognise him as a halforc. So he was on the lookout for a job when he met a local smith.

Casper Thareman*, a weaponsmith took Egder as an assistant, in exchange for a place to stay and a low wage. Egder agreed with it and took a room just above the Steelhouse*. While doing his job to the best of his capacities, he started looking for ways to change the current situation. He didn't consider leaving, as the city became a home after ten years and took more kind to halforcs as in his homeland. Casper learned of this, and brought him in touch with a group of citizens. When they made clear their intentions, Egder joined their fight for a free society.

*=see NPC and location description

Appearance:

Egder has a dark grey skin, and the typical muscular build of a halforc. He has pale eyes, almost white, and small but still visible tusks. He is often wearing a scarf that he uses to hide his face when performing. When not wearing it, his long black hair and moustache are visible.

Personality:

Egder prefers to keep to himself in Westcrown, but is opening up in the company of people he trusts. He rarely speaks to outsiders, but when he does he shows fine oratory skills that surprise most. It is difficult to anger him, but when one does he tries to intimidate the other in going no further. If his enemy crosses that line, his orc heritage takes the upper hand and he will show himself as a furious combatant.

Submitting Egder for a Skirmish/Utility role. I think he'll do fine giving melee support, while covering other roles when needed. I think I put up all details in his profile so I refer to that. Should anything be missing, do ask.

Didn't find a good avatar, might change.

GM, would you allow me to take the Legacy of Sand trait? I believe it would be a plus to Egder's story, but it's up to you.

NPC:

Jontas Khollarix is a member of House Khollarix. He resides in the city centre very close to the Golden Palace. He loves performance and regularly imports artistic slaves to Westcrown. He has slave trade contacts in various regions in the Inner Sea, tough mainly in Katapesh. He is widely known for eccentric parties and pays lip-service to the Church of Asmodeus, tough keeps his true deity a well-kept secret.

Casper Thareman is a weaponsmith and owner of the Steelhouse. He excels in creating swords and axes, but due to his dedication and the hard work he puts in, he is not the fastest. He is quickly irritated by impatient customers and would prefer someone else taking over the shop so he can dedicate to the creation of weapons. For this job, he hired Egder. Much of his swords find their way to the Dottari, but unmarked versions start to appear in the ranks of the freedom fighters.

Locations:

The Steelhouse is a smithery in the north of the city. It is specialized in swords and axes, tough all weapons are available. Sometimes a second-hand armor appears in the store, mainly because Casper being too lazy to mold the iron for something new.

The Golden Palace is a theatre in the centre of the city. Regular performances take place in front of much of the Westcrown nobility, but lately the Asmodean Church is looking for excuses to shut the doors.
