Well, i've read most of the books (all but the last 2 or 3), and seen a handful of episodes of the show. I liked, but not loved, the books - up until the last couple - where Terry Goodkind got HUGELY preachy. I'm talking pages and pages of whichever character (usually the Seeker himself) speaking out about one's "duty" to society and what-not. The concepts in the book were not hugely original, but they were still good. And his writing style is pretty engaging. Since I read most of the books, i really couldn't get into the show's treatment of the storylines and some of the characters. Zed felt way, way off to me in the show. Plus, they took some serious liberties with the timeline of events.. like the earlier use of him learning the fighting styles of the sword's former masters. Those are my thoughts.
I would reiterate what they said above. What was it you didn't enjoy about 4th? PF is still a d20 system, and I personally find it far more immersive than 4th, but that's just because of what i appreciate about game playing with my friends. Give us what you didn't like about 4th, and we'll try our best to help you out. The suggestion about buying the $10 downloadable pdf was a good one. $10 is not much, but you'll have all the information at your disposal to decide if it's any better for you than 4th was.
I realize this isn't really on-topic, but it's highly related. I've always thought Sorc's should have an "over-channel" ability. Where they can sacrifice hp - or take nonlethal damage - to continue casting spells past their daily limit. This makes sense from a flavor standpoint (at least to me - seeing as sorc's spells seem to be more internal than wizards), and it would give them something mechanically exclusive to them. People seem to be afraid of this idea, though, because of the sorc's limited hp pool, though. |
