Background:
Children children, nice and bright
Don't go off into the night
Where the lights to darkness fade
Someone's hiding in the shade
Children children, don't you know
Friends will come and friends will go
If they go into the black
They are never coming back
Children children, look ahead
If it hides under your bed
When it creeps out of his hole
He will come and eat you whole
Every child knows that something hides under his bed, and in the shadows when the sun is setting. Most adults just smile and reassure the children, but the few who are versed in monster lore know of the bogeymen. Unseelie Fey, these creatures shroud themselves in darkness, taking pleasure and pride in sowing terror among families. They are the shifting shadows at the corner of your eye, they are that feeling telling you that you are not alone. Mostly, they are harmless, contenting themselves with some fear. Mostly, they are not Eat-in-Shadow.
It was an uncommonly fearless and disturbed child the one who found Eat-in-Shadow under her bed. Third of seven siblings, cramped in a shack in the slums, her parents and relatives ranging from spiteful to violent, the girl believed that the true horror was not the creature living in the shades, but her father's belt and her mother's kitchen tools. And, in her desperate plea for a friend, she did one fatal mistake: she gave Eat-in-Shadows a name, as you should never do to those who are of the Unseelie. Eat-in-Shadows was unbound by his Court as a result of this small, incredibly powerful act of will. The rules of the fey no longer applied to him, and when the girl's mother hit her for some laughable reason, he felt fear. And on that fear he fed. A horrific form, like a hideous spider with a crab's exoskeleton, sprung out of the darkness, plunging wicked claws in the mother, razor-sharp fangs biting on her neck.
After that first victim, Eat-in-Shadows went into a frenzy, assaulting any who came close enough, each mote of fear adding to his bloodlust, cutting a bloody swath of limbs and gore through the rough parts of the city When he was subdued by the guards, his body count was well into the double digits. Priests of Mitra banished the shadows clinging to him with accursed sunlight, and his true form, pitifully humanoid, bound and gagged, was shipped off to Brandescar.
Appearance:
Under the cloak of darkness that hides him most of the times, Eat-in-Shadows look like a grey-fleshed, goblinoid, shorter than the average human and completely hairless. His form can shift to a degree, according to his will, as he is learning how to morph, to better creep in the darkness and sneak up on unsuspecting victims.
Personality:
Eat-in-Shadows is brutish, unpleasant and unnerving, a ruthless and canny predator who delights in striking fear before he kills, by threatening, taunting and demoralizing his opponents before striking from the shadows. He especially likes to call forth an enveloping darkness, moving unseen and cowing his prey before going in for the kill, shapeshifting into a horrific beast of prey.
Although he is cut off from the Unseelie Court of the Fey, he still won't tell an outright lie, instead twisting the truth to suit his purposes.
