Spoiler:
I see what you are saying. I have the two inverted. Strange, eh? I will use Scorching Burst. May I use the same Attack Roll? Could we just split the damage on the other roll? Modifier is the same on the Damage rolls. I will also update my CS so I don't do that again. Thanks for pointing that out. Update: Dyrnwyn post. Wizard casts Scorching Burst in pit.
Male Eladrin Wizard
"The rats?" Dyrnwyn replies absently as he frets over the disappearance of the goblins. "Well, let us see what we can do about the vermin ..." Stepping to the edge of the pit-trap, the wizard motions quickly with his hands as a wave of fire washes into the depths. Pat, can I do this? While I realize the blast radius is different, I am wondering whether the pit can contain/funnel the flame. Let me know and I will shift to Magic Missile or ask for a flask of oil from the company. Cheers!

Revived and anxious, Dyrnwyn moves between the pillars to target the crossbow wielding goblins.
Move to L9, target g4, Acid Arrow 1d20+4=13, Damage2d8+4=18,
Details for convenience:Hit: 2d8 + Intelligence modifier acid damage, and ongoing 5 acid damage (save ends). Make a secondary attack.

"I can't believe we just walked into this!" Dyrnwyn's cries in exasperation, ripping at the crossbow bolts embedded in his flesh. Noting the severity of his injuries and amount of blood lost, the Eladrin opts for countermeasures. Vanishing in a mist from the stairs, he reappears moments later between the pillars and alongside the pit which has swallowed Frivry. Calling upon his otherworldly constitution, Dyrnwyn gasps as a slight wave of healing washes over him. Bamf! Fey Step to J8, Second Wind, healing surge for 5 hit points. Was at 2, now at 7, I think. I've got a bad feeling about this
Male Eladrin Wizard
"Your support is much appreciated," the Eladrin replies to his companion, as he makes his way down the stairs. Upon seeing the illumination at the termination of the staircase, Dyrnwyn hesitates for a moment. "Shall I extinguish this Light?" Dyrnwyn asks, pointing cautiously at the torch flickering below.
Male Eladrin Wizard
"Apparently so, Silo," Dyrnwyn laughs, pondering his confusion. "I would attribute it to my near fatality in our first encounter with the kobolds. There might be residual damage." "Either that or I need a drink." "I will lead the way," he adds, positioning the staff before him and beginning the descent. "Be prepared to aid me, friends, as I wear no armor!" "The tracks here suggest something different than kobolds. It appears that the creatures have shod feet."

pat512 wrote: Nature (which is Wisdom-based, BTW) The reason I believed that Nature was Intelligence based can be attributed to page 156 of PHB, which states of Class Skills: Nature (Int). The Skill Description section lists it as Wisdom based, as do the other class descriptions which detail class skills. Perhaps this was listed in Errata but I have not examined it closely. So, erroneous information in PHB lead me to the conclusion that Nature was Intelligence based. I'll have to change this information on character sheet.

Dyrnwyn examines the ruins above the subterranean staircase with a keen eye for historical and theological significance and pauses before entering the underworld. With a gesture and a wink, the wizard creates an arcane illumination upon the staff he bears and admires the glow suffusing the head of the device. "Place your weapons before me," Dyrnwyn offers. "I will cast a spell that will preserve our resources, should we need torches or light once we are below." Dyrnwyn Knowledge checks: History (INT): 5 ranks +4 (+2)= 11 [20], Nature (INT) 5 ranks +4= 9 [25], Religion (INT) 5 ranks +4= 9 [20]

"I agree, Silo," Dyrnwyn says as he aids in the preparation of the campsite. "Our foes are not to be made light of." Using his well-honed cantrips, the wizard clears the detritus from the area and creates a small campfire for the company to relax by and heat foods. "I would suggest that we extinguish the fire after we have eaten," the Eladrin states, nibbling on a trail ration. "That will lower our presence from any enemies that are prowling about ... or worse." "I need only require a brief reprieve from our efforts, as does my companion, to gain my spells again. I can stand watch during this period and for the duration of the night, if that would please you," Dyrnwyn says, checking his weapons and preparing for his trance. Dyrnwyn remains "aware" during trance and is willing to stay at guard all night.

Perhaps Frivry will find something and that will change our plan. btw, when I initially posted, I didn't realize that there was a new page of text. Posting by iPhone.

"Ah, victory!" Dyrwyn exclaims with obvious relief at their hard-fought success. "This encounter seems, by all accounts, premeditated when contrasted with our initial dealings with the kobolds." "Once we search these vile creatures, we should make camp ... perhaps off from the road ... and recover from this arduous battle." "I am particularly interested in what this caster may yield," the wizard states, starting for the fallen spellcaster in search of spellbooks or arcane devices.
Male Eladrin Wizard
Sensing that the melee has shifted and that momentum has begun to favor the company, Dyrnwyn advances on the enemy caster and unleashes another arcane bolt. Brandishing his staff and motioning with his right hand, the mage summons a missile of force and launches it at the kobold wizard. Dyrnwyn moves to R8, Target k1, Magic Missile, 1d20+4=24(!!!!-DnD DiceRoller loves me again! I thought we were going to have to break up.), Damage 2d4+4=7 (Do I get the critical hit damage here? 12)
Male Eladrin Wizard
Buoyed by his success, Dyrnwyn moves clear of the melee and focuses on the kobold furthest from the group. Calling again upon the ancient teachings of the Eladrin and the magics of the fey world, the wizard conjures another missile of force and casts it toward the enemy mage. Move to L9, Target k1Cast Magic Missile, 1d20+4= 5 (paying for it now), no need to roll damage
Male Eladrin Wizard
Dyrnwyn holds his position away from the probing attacks of the kobolds and launches arcane assaults against the closest of the creatures. His hand glowing with an acidic green haze, Dyrnwyn hurls an orb of caustic venom at one of the assailants which bursts to infect its companion. Pivoting his staff on the coarse terrain, the wizard evokes a luminous blue bolt of power and casts it with an Eldarin curse at the second kobold. Dyrnwyn cast Acid Arrow and Magic Missile - utilizing Action Point (my first one ever), targets, respectively, k4, k2. Acid Arrow 1d20+4=18, acid damage 2d8+4=16, ongoing 5 acid, Secondary target 1d20+4=23(!!!), acid damage 1d8+4=9. Magic Missile 1d20+4=22, damage 2d4+4=8

"Gran is surrounded! We must aid him!" Dyrnwyn cries, feeling the resurgent strength of his healing flow over him. Racing past the withdrawn Frivry, the Wizard crosses back onto the path to join the encircled paladin. Brandishing his arcane staff and calling upon the infernal pacts of ancient Eladrin magic, Dyrnwyn summons a column of raging flame about one of the three kobolds harrying Gran. Move to H12, Target k4, Scorching Burst1d20+4 [22!], Damage 1d6+4=6

pat512 wrote: Dyrnwyn, Fey Step is only 5 squares -- I put you in I6, but feel free to adjust that. Also, each healing surge heals MaxHP/4, rounded down, so 5. You're now at 8. Meant to write I13, my mistake. I'll take the current position, as I13 looks dangerous. Thanks for the healing surge clarification, reading conflicting passages and confused about it. Like I said, playing face to face might get these rules to stick with me. I'll get it though.

With a familiar sense of impending death at the claws of kobolds creeping over him, the severely injured and failing Dyrnwyn assesses his options swiftly and opts for caution over valor. Drawing upon his Eladrin heritage as his kinsman had, the Wizard phases from the natural world into the Feywild to reenter the realm of the mundane several paces away from the vile creatures assailing the company. Gathering his strength and composure, Dyrnwyn prepares to make another arcane attack on the kobolds after a breath. Move Action: Fey Step, teleport to I3. Standard Action: Second Wind, Healing Surge (that brings me to my total [21], correct?

Hit points. You couldn't find 'em because I left 'em off. Unbelievable. 10 hit points. I am probably dying now, if all three hit. Is that how I am reading it.

"The one to the North is a skirmisher!" Dyrnwyn declares, shifting his staff to target the creature closing in on him from the east. "Don't let it flank you with the others or they will mob you!" Flourishing the staff and crying out the names of fey exemplars, the Eladrin wizard reaches out with his hands in a threatening posture and unleashes a torrent of raging fire upon the kobold. Target k4, Burning Hands +4 [17] damage, if applicable [8]
Male Eladrin Wizard
Dyrnwyn strikes out on the road, leaning casually on his staff and watching the skies for changing weather patterns. Turning his eyes toward the land about him, the Eladrin seeks out the flora and fauna of the unchartered, to his experience, region. "Why do you suppose that these villagers, from all stations of life, seem either ignorant or in denial of the Death Cult we were sent to investigate?" Dyrnwyn asks his companions, as he treads along. "Perhaps, we have been mislead..." he offers. "But to what end?" Dyrnwyn D-16

Dyrnwyn glides a finger along the spine of an aged tome of an historical nature and turns to Valthrun. "Practically speaking, my specialty is the arcane arts," he offers in a respectful tone, appreciative of the scholar's interests. "However, I do dabble in History and the Natural world. More of a hobby than a vocation, I confess." "I would hope that, once our investigations are at an end, I might visit with you again to add to my own research." "Silo, I must say that I am in agreement with you," the Eladrin says to his companion. "And the sooner we embark, the better. Will we require any further gear?" he asks. "And Valthrun, are there any ... hindrances that you might make us aware of"
Male Eladrin Wizard
"Still this rejection of the cult's existence," the Wizard thinks, furrowing his high brow. Dyrnwyn is visibly intrigued by the vast, yet curiously chaotic, collection of tomes and parchment and struggles to make note of the myriad writings. "Valthrun, please pardon my inquisitiveness," the Eladrin apologizes. "It is merely an aspect of my nature. Are you, as am I, a mage, sir?" "I would dearly love to peruse you spellbooks and lore, if such relics are available," he asks with reverence, however fawning its appearance. I'll throw in a couple of checks, just to roll the dice! Arcana (INT): 5 ranks +4 (+2)= 11 [16], History (INT): 5 ranks +4 (+2)= 11 [22], Religion (INT) 5 ranks +4= 9 [11], Nature (INT) 5 ranks +4= 9 [18]

I realize that I was away for this progression in the tavern, but I will add this text. DM may decide if it is far too late or inconsequential. Finishing his drink, Dyrnwyn rises from the table to secure a room for the evening. Passing the elven woman, the Wizard pauses and smiles. "I've just come from the road, sister," he explains with a genial quality. "I saw naught but the scourge of kobolds on the path. Do you seek someone?" And the market The Eladrin examines the carts and purveyors in the square, keen to note potions or exotic items that would enhance his arsenal and natural inquisitiveness. As the company makes for the chapel, Dyrnwyn thinks to return again once their interview is completed. With the current thread
"Agreed," Dyrnwyn nods to Rhiannis's assessment, motioning him aside. "While I tend to believe Sister Linora's trust in her flock is sincere, I suspect that this well-intentioned faith in her followers is simply that ... well-intentioned," the Eladrin confesses in subdued tones. "Unfortunately, I have no spell to determine whether subterfuge is at play here. We should be cautious ..."

Dyrnwyn eagerly accepts the ale from the maiden with a sincere "thank you" in the common tongue and proceeds to empty a significant portion in his first attempt. Glancing about Wrafton's tavern with the veil of a whimsical traveler, the Eladrin notes the locals and more exotic patrons, particularly the elven woman guarding the door with her alert eyes. Familiar with the mannerism of his remote kinsmen, Dyrnwyn marks her watch with curiosity and hidden interest. At the approach of Eilinan the Old, he tips his ale and drains the remainder with an optimistic look toward the bar maiden. "I am Dyrnwyn, and it is true, I am not of these parts," he offers genially. "I am from a vanishing tower in the east and my folk make their passage when the Feywild manifest itself in your world." "I thank you for your welcome and confess that I know little of Kalarel, as well. It was our hope that one here might."

Relishing the jaunt through the wilderness, the fey Dyrnwyn is a bit disappointed upon seeing the urban Winterhaven and its walled defenses. With a tap of his staff upon the path, the wizard approaches the guards with the group of adventurers and allows the others to present their request for audience. Hearing of the market, the Eladrin's ears perk up and he nods his approval for a visit to his companions, considering the potential for exotic and esoteric goods. Perhaps the city has its merits, he muses. Dyrnwyn will have divided the 34 silver between his comrades and set fire to the kobolds bodies so other marauders might not benefit from their implements
Male Eladrin Wizard
"Uhhhhh ...," Dyrnwyn murmurs with a wince. "Many thanks. I felt myself slipping away for a moment." Wiping his thin fingers through his light hair, the Eladrin wizard stretches his arms out before him. "I must confess, I feel a bit different having closed in on death," he offers, mustering a small smile. Glancing about at the fallen kobolds, Dyrnwyn assesses the current situation. "Looks like we won. I have to say, I had some difficulty with that last one ... tough little bastards ... Do you think they were anticipating us?" Steadying himself, the Eladrin rises to stand. "We should search them to ascertain if their intent was more sinister than a mere ambush." Dyrnwyn will use a Healing Surge (can he take more than one- I have to check that) and will attempt to search the kobolds with the others, if he has the strength

Yeah, I thought that, in my reading of it, the Wizard gets the spellbook. I spent the 50 gold grudgingly, though. Just to be sure. I'll gladly use the cash on other devices.
