Duraz "Razz" Derakht is son of Nazdik Derakht, the most recent in a long line of lumber workers, and as such was expected to take up the axe like his father before him. However, it was not to be.
Since the first hairs grew on Razz's face he's been haunted by dreams of terrible, unfathomable things - alien things, toothed and clawed and tortured things, things which must not be named - and since then has had trouble getting a good night's rest. As though his persistent headache from lack of sleep were not enough, the spirits that torment him at night seem to follow him during the day, causing(mostly minor) mishaps wherever he goes. As badly as Razz wants to support his family by joining the lumber business, his bad luck is just not something that mixes well with cutting trees, so he does his best to work as an accountant, if he's not off wandering beneath the stars to avoid sleep.
Razz often steals into the night by himself to be alone with the stars. He is no longer a heavy drinker, though there still are hushed tales among the maids of Falcon's Hollow of the chaotic nights that the older Derakht boy stumbled about the streets yelling lewd things at passing women and tormenting beggars. Razz has since cleaned up his act, but every such night which he remembers, he remembers fondly.
He is annoyed with his younger brother, who, though perfectly capable of being a lumberjack, refuses to take work seriously. Nonetheless, he loves his brother and will do anything necessary to keep him safe.
The spirits that haunt Razz have recently been visiting him in dreams more often, and he can feel their power manifesting more strongly in his daily life. His young friend Andern has been helping him harness this power, and though he is four years the half-orc's senior, he trusts his friend's knowledge.
Razz is looking for an opportunity to give back to his community, preferably surrounded by his friends, in a way that will get his family (and especially his father) to respect him, finally.
