Background:

When Duanimon awoke in their family renewal pod on Absalom Station, they were greeted by a voice in their head which introduced itself as Entos, an android ancestor who preserved itself in an AI core implanted in its body before renewing. Entos explained that Duanimon's parent had been a respected professor of xenobiology at one of the stations's most prestigious universities and had left a grant to allow them to attend. It took a while for Duanimon to adjust to the constant presence of their experienced but deteriorating exocortex, but eventually they decided to follow their parent and study at the university. They lacked much interest in biological life, but excelled in technological studies, guided by Entos, whose prolonged life allowed it to accumulate knowledge in myriad subjects. However, Duanimon grew increasingly worried about Entos, whose unique transformation had not entirely halted its mental aging. By this point Duanimon had come to view Entos as something of a surrogate parent, and was determined to perpetuate their companion.

Duanimon's quest to preserve Entos led them to Absalom Station's criminal underbelly, where they found a masterful but secretive outlaw programmer known only as Spire. This individual agreed to undertake the project of rejuvenating Entos' deteriorating code, but at a massive cost. To acquire the necessary credits, Duanimon used their technological expertise to get a job as a pirate vessel's resident hacker. This proved a disastrous decision, as shortly after they joined, the ship was attacked and boarded in overwhelming force by mysterious robotic assailants. Duanimon was knocked unconscious and awoke in a strange prison, unsure of their location. Now, they try to suppress their panic and determine how to escape their current predicament.
