This may at 1st glance sound like a negative comment but it's not really. More of a generation issue perhaps. Back in the day running a game was a creative outlet, stories were written, maps were drawn, minis were painted & character development was worked out with the DM. Now prefix adventures are hastily read, low quality prepainted plastic minis are purchased in bulk & power gamers can dig through a rediculous number of options till they select for themselves the perfect game breaking combo.

What would be the point of reskinning Starfinder if the overwhelming majority of lazy & unimaginative players AND GMs want to be spoon fed their setting by Paizo? Put up your lonely flyer advertising your Home brew game at a Convention or FLGS Game night and you'll be Lucky to get a few divergent souls. Yet the place will be filled to bursting with scores of loud Starfinder Society tables. Paizo wove the setting into the Core Rulebook from the start and presented that's how Starfinder is played...& so 99.8% of the fan boy & fan girl culture follows suit. Observe closely & see if this is what comes to pass.

PIGS IN SPACE!!

This needs to happen, even if I need to reskin another race.

The 1st thing that comes to mind is that Starfinder shouldn't need to be reskinned. Not that I'm so infatuated with the campaign setting... but this is a Core Rulebook! It should contain the rules for creating fun and exciting Sci fi adventures in ANY setting. You didn't have to adventure in Greyhawk or Forgotten Realms in D&D...though that also has become more about itself than the vehicle in which to create your own adventures. I find it annoying that the sourcebooks are so closely tied to a specific Campaign setting that they should require Reskinning.

I was thinking of running a Retro Raygun / Pulp style adventure. Can I do that with Starfinder or am I gonna have to tweak and translate, while wading through page after page that is mostly about Absolam/Golarion/Paizo-Weird Campaign setting specific content?

About eirip

I am an avid Paizo supporter. I think this company has done wonders for the gaming community. Their adventure paths are a collection of some of the very best modules that I have ever seen. I currently am playing the Pathfinder Role-Playing game and using the Advanced player's guide!

Unfortunately because of the economy I have had to cancel my subscriptions for the adventure path and the chronicles, but I will be back.
