Male Demon Spawn (Pit Born) Cleric 6 (HP 51/51; Init +6; F+7/R+2/W+9 +11 vs Charms or Compulsions; AC 21/T10/FF21; Perception +4; CMB +9, CMD 19)

What would you guys think of a Saurian shaman? I'd probably go melee optimized, and I can see the standard action summons being a huge boon, as damage sinks. Dinosaurs are flexible enough that being able to wild shape into them at 9th level - assuming I'd come in at 7th? - should enable him to tackle most encounters, and there are enough forms that can dish out high damage in a single hit that DR ought not be problematic - I'd take vital strike at 9th since its a freebie.

I'm not sure if an animal companion is viable for a game this brutal, they are helpful, but getting hold of a new companion reptile or dinosaur might be tough. There are some pretty good domain choices available, even animal which effectively gives you a full strength animal companion and the extra spells for a domain for a feat. The feather domain - some dinosaurs had feathers right - gives fly and mass fly which should help the party out.

Flavor wise I'd make him Sarkoris, from a following that fled into the Tusk mountains, giving him a built in reason to take the creatures than have overrun his ancient homeland. I'll go human, since it makes sense, and I'll need the feats.

Say Spell Focus Conjuration, Augment Summoning, Power Attack, Boon Companion, Natural Spell. Maybe give up the bonus feat for Eye for Talent and drop power attack - +2 to one of your animal companions stats and +2 racial to sense motive for the bonus feat.

Stats (assuming I can use rolls for Drezen) Str 20, Dex 15, Con 16, Int 14, Wis 18, Cha 10.
HP: 66 (38 hd, 7 fc, 21 cone)

Thoughts? He'd be able to get to grips with fliers immediately by summoning a Pteradon to keep them busy as a standard.

*Siddles in looking hopeful* Any chance you are going to be recruiting again? I'd love another crack at getting into this game. If you are what do you feel the group is in need of?

Thought I would check up on how you guys were getting on, and got my hopes up there for a sec! Glad to see you could continue though, it sucks to loose a player, especially when the flow is as nice as here.

Let me know if any spaces do open up though! And please bear in mind I would be more than willing to make up a character for a different role.

Drezen grins,

"Ah, but these lads had our measure I'm sad to say. I think you had the tougher fight, mine might have been tougher to "hit" than a nun at prayer, but at least I could see him. If you don't end up traveling with these lads, I think I might be able to scrounge together a crew in a few days, you'd be more than welcome."

It might be a good idea to have them both out with a different party in case a space opens up while one of the groups is out in the field. What can I say I'm an optimist ;)

Cheers Jin, that would be much appreciated
:)

Drezen makes to move and finds the joints of his fullplate catch and grind awkwardly giving him an unfortunate limps,

"Ah, Gorum's bloody nipples, I can't fight demons in this. I'm gonna need to take this to a smith and get it hammered back into shape. I suppose that rules out me joining you lot. Not that I think you'll miss me when you fight like that Sirhan, kill a few demons for me would ya? Hopefully I'll see you out there one of these days and we can share a drink."

He offers his ahdn to the Aasimar, and then clanks his way noisily off to find a smith.

Just for versimlitude, best of luck guys - kick some demon arse ;)

The tiefling opens his eyes and manages a rueful grin,

"Maybe I should spend less time drinking and more time practicin' after that. Glad we're on the same side. Not going to, but maybe I should. Thanks for the healin', let me return the favor."

He calls upon Gorum and restores Sirhan to health to.

Drezen sways on his feet, bloodied and unsteady, he considers healing himself to prolong the bout, but decides to go for glory instead. Lunging forward he buries his blade in Sirhan's thigh, and then lets it fall from his fingertips to clatter upon the ground,

Ha! Nice fight my friend, you are a worthy victor!" He manages, before keeling over backwards in a pile of gore drenched steel.

GS PA with DS: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (7) + 29 = 36Damage: 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (1, 3) + 14 = 18

That was fun! Obviously in a battle against a real enemy I would not do that, but I think it works here and is fairly cinematic. We could having traded off healing ourselves for a while, and shield of faith, and spiritual weapon would probably have been prudent choices - but not really Drezen's style :) I would have been delaying the inevitable in anycase I think.

Drezen winks at the wolf faced orcale and then chants, pulling a rod free holding it in his tail, and briefly releasing one hand from his sword to call upon Gorum to guide his blade and then stepping up close to his opponent again.

Drezen snorts, "Scars are just friendly reminders from Gorum to dodge faster, he really thinks I should speed up apparently!" The tiefling brings his blade up again and once more rings Sirhan's armor like a bell without penetrating.

"Gaahh, good hit," Drezen manages through gritted teeth as blood trickles warmly beneath his armor. He deabtes casting, but decides he can weather another strike before its necessary to fall back on it,. He swings hard again, this time managing to power past Sirhan's armor and land a solid hit that reddens his blade,

"About time! I was beginning to think I had more chance of tiring you out through stabbing me than cutting you!"

"Yeah, I these are swords not palm fronds, though your's had an edge a second ago," Drezen chuckles before lunging again. Another blow rings off Sirhan's armor, and the blue lines of magic about Drezen's blade fade away to nothingness.

Drezen grunts in pain as Sirhan's longsword connects, flinging aside his shield and stepping up to swing again, but just swinging with too much power and catching the aasimar's armor at an awkward angle.

"Ha, you aren't wrong. It's like trying to hit an agile anvil! I approve!"

Whooping in delight Drezen brings his blade down, but it skitters off the Oracle's armor. Laughing Drezen spins, as Sirhan's fangs span closed on nothing and launches another great chop at his foe sacrificing acurracy for raw power. But this blow to clangs off Sirhan's armor,

"Rust and ruin!" Drez curses, before twisting back around dropping on hand from his blade and coming back around from his spin with his shield readied.

Dang, well can't say I'm not disappointed, but such is life. Best of luck guys, I'm sure Sigmund will make a great addition. Should we finish out the fight or simply leave it as is? I'm happy either way.

Isn't it! Especially when you consider that enhancement bonuses now enable you to bypass DR.

"Start say twenty feet apart, and no trying to damage equipment, otherwise anythin' goes? Start when a copper piece hits the floor, alright?" Drezen suggests, moving out into the middle of the courtyard. He readies himself removing his shield and cracking his knuckles. Then pulling out a copper piece showing it to Sirhan and hurling it up high into the air.

The coin rises some fifteen feet into the air, glinting in the sunlight and then tumbles down to the ground with a dull clink which is drowned out by Drezen's jubilant roar!

The armored priest surges forward before Sirhan can move, pulling his greatsword from its sheath, with neon blue tendrils of magic crackling over the blades surface. As he closes, moving with surprising speed for someone in such heavy armor, he brings the greatsword down in an arc and sweeps the wolf faced oracle from his feet before he can react!

Activates Scabbard of Vigor to make greatsword +3 for three rounds as part of the action of drawing it. If Sirhan has some ability to avoid being flatfooted he gets an attack of opportunity.

I was indeed intending to catch Jin in the channeling to, so he should be at full hp.

Drezen paws the ground with a cloven hoof,

"Well I'm up for anything, so long as I get to hit something soon, its practically prayin' for a priest of Gorum - and I'm very devout."

Nodding a greeting to Peitry Drezen pats the pommel of his greatsword with his tail and asks,

"So are we ready to go? I will warn you, I do not aim to fight pretty, I fight to win," the horned cleric says to Sirhan, grinning with the cheerful visciousness that is common to the battle hungry clerics of his order.

Any rules? How far apart are we going to start, etc.?

Even as Terri topples Drezen is holding up a hand - upon which a single vaguely sword-like patch of pale white human skin can be seen, in sharp contrast to the red hoary hide which covers the rest of his body.

"Gorum, bind the wounds of these brave warriors that they might fight on for your glory!" He bellows, as several pulses of blood red light ripple forth bringing the scent of steel and gore, and a faint sound of far off battle.

The red light laps at wounds and bruises erroding them until the flesh beneath is perfectly restored. Then Drezen strides over and offers Terri an armored hand saying,

"He's a tricksey one and no mistake, I'd not like to fight him in a serious battle," he glances back at Jin grinning, "though I'd love te give it a try for fun some time."

Drezen nods to Sirhan,

"Suits me fine, got me armor magicked already though - since it last all bleeding day. I feel pretty much the same, I'd rather be swinging than botherin' Gorum, tend to use me spells as a fall back, or before a fight I know is coming. Like if I were in poor Terri's place now, I'd a started buffin' my defenses and waited for him te strike on the defensive."

Watching the combat he calls,

"Come on Terri! Make him pay for that!"

Drezen nods, standing with a clank and and stretching his back,

"You're a caster to right? Want to want to have a chance to cast spells first or just wade straight in? I'll just channel these folks back to health, one they're done, and then we can have at it."

I'm game, though Sirhan's stats are pretty darn intimidating! Thats something like a 70 point buy. Mind you Drezen has a 52 point buy so I think I've got a good shot :)

Noon. Spells in play, extended Magic Vestment on Full Plate. Sanctified Shield charged.

Drezen arrives a few minutes before noon, eating an entire two foot long salami held in his tail, with great gusto. He carries shield, embalzened with a battered emblem of Gorum, in one hand and his greatsword in the other resting between the bristling cold iron spikes on his shoulder.

"Alright Jin, Terri? Anyone up for a bout with me? Come on, ye know you want to!" He bellows cheerfully, clanking over to watch Terri and Jin squaring off and taking another bite of salami.

Polishing off his lunch, he sheathes his sword and casts about, for a place to sit, settling upon a nearby barrel. Then, until someone willing to give him a bout shows up he takes in the show.

The previous night.

Drezen nods,

"Well Gorum grants me spells of the third tier, though for the most part I prefer to use 'em out of battle and stay in the thick of things. I'm trained in the manner of a Mendevian Priest, which means I'm able to wear heavier armor than your average cleric seems to prefer, and know a few more tricks that hurt demons, and help out my allies. I hit hard, and I can take a hit in my turn. I'll be happy t' reconvene at the practice yard."

As everyone finishes up Drez stands, says his goodnights, throws back the rest of his whiskey, and clanks his way unsteadily over to the bar where he secures lodging, before heading up to bed humming merrily.

Drezen grins, ironically looking more demonic than ever,

"Oh yes, I like you Sigmund, man after my own heart. Hope you get your fix one of these days. I almost wish I didn't enjoy killin' the verminous things so much, cheapens it somehow - but burn me I cannot help myself."

Male Demon Spawn (Pit Born) Cleric 6 (HP 51/51; Init +6; F+7/R+2/W+9 +11 vs Charms or Compulsions; AC 21/T10/FF21; Perception +4; CMB +9, CMD 19)

"Here to kill demons, I'm a simple fella. Don't really care about fame, but I've got powerful creatures I need to slay so I need to hone myself. I'll be here until they close the Wound, or until I die," Drezen says his grip tightening around his glass as he stares down at the table, possessed of a sudden fierce intensity.

After a second he chuckles, though its obviously a little forced, and looks up, [b]"What of yourself? Call me Drez by the way, can't never think of myself as a Master anything."

Drezen waves sleepily at the newcomer,

"Welcome, Drezen Silver, please don't smite me, it won't work, I'm a demon slayer, and cleric, in the service of Gorum, feel free to test me - I'm more than used to it. I'm afraid Terri and meself weren't part of this last outing, we are newcomers seeking to join up, since these good folks are hirin'. Seems they have their pick of the litter."

The tieflings glances at Sigmund's wounds out of the corner of his eye, but refrains from mentioning them again, obviously a touchy subject. Bet that's a tale and a half.

Lol, you can always just go for mysterious, "Some other time perhaps, it is not a tale for glad times," or some such.

"Aye, but don't forget those same foot soldiers think most of the missions we embark on are suicidal. Many of them are convinced you need t' be cracked to walk the Blasted Lands, and I'm not entirely convinced they are wrong. You can't spend it when you're dead they say, and they're not wrong - for the most part. Plus I'm willing to bet the Church know most of us fools plough our money straight back into the fight and end up dying in a blaze of glory - I'm guessing neither of you's just bought a summer house right? Not that I'm complainin'."

Lol, no problem, happens to the best of us :)

"But there is so much shiny coins can get you, so you might as well pick them up to right?" Drezen replies grinning and raising his glass to Terri in a jaunty salute,

"So Coldhart hey? I'll wager there's a story behind that blade? Me own's Drezen's Ire, referring to the city not me own self, demon bane of course. Me mum told me she had it from some hound headed celestail after killin' a Vrock in the retreat at Urium," he continues, patting the hilt of his greatsword fondly.

Its not actually Demon bane, its evil outsider bane, Drezen just has a bit of a one track mind :)

Drezen waves his tail lazily at the newcomer, "Pleasure I'm sure Terri, Drezen Silver, call me Drez. I'm applyin' to - can't say the big pile of platinum is hurtin' my interest any - Iomedae, huh?" he nods to her pendant, "Me dear old mum was a paladin of Iomedae, adopted, but I get a bit too caught up on the battlefield to suit the tenants, and if I'm fightin' demons I'm afraid I don't give a Babau's balls for honor. No me and Gorum are a much better fit, but I've a deal of respect for the swordmistress."

Drezen laughs and clangs a fist against his armored stomach, "Stop, you are making me hungry. Why does fried food always sound so good when I am drinking?"

He stays back giving the group have some privacy while counting their spoils, but letting out a couple of low whistles as he hears the figures. Its never been about the coin, but it is good to know they get paid. And being caked in gore is all well and good, but I'd rather not be wet and miserable in the interim.

"If its shelter from the crapstorm of weather we get near the Wound you want, I've found ye can usually make a pretty sturdy shelter with stone shape. Rope tricks alright, but it dain't last long if you are using a wand, and a rope dangling outta thin air s'probably just as suspicious as a boulder with a door in it. Course its a bigger magic, but then ye can always reuse a stone shelter like that since its permanent."

It upsets me that the rope can no longer be removed or hidden, though Rope Trick is still a great spell. I'll also note that Drezen has a Rod of Lesser Extend which would enable a single casting of endure elements communal to cover the entire party viable - vote Drez ;)

Drezen smiles lazily at Crissor nodding,

"Aye, kinda ironic that if we ever are succesful we'll be about as welcome as a boar in a bakery though. But people'll be people I suppose, and I dain't have any pressing desire to become a local priest or nothin'. No idea what I'd do if we ever manage to close the wound, but there are plenty of places with trouble and large women I s'pose."

"E'sactly, plenty of time after. Just try not to die, seems like common sense right? I don't know if I'm a better warrior, but I know how to carve demon, and I ain't too bad otherwise. I mean I can do the whole waggling fingers and prayin' bit, but its more about hackin' stuff up. Call me Drez by the way," the tiefling says, taking a swig of his drink.

Is Sirhan currently wearing his Cloak of Human Guise?

"Oh, but cheap whiskey is a warriors best friend, and it would be sacriledge to quaff fifty year old Andoran, like I am want to do with the cheap stuff when the edges of my better judgment are fully eroded," Drezen replies, grinning contentedly.

"I'll happily join you, if you'll take me, I'll be heading into the fray either way - prefer not to go alone, but go I will. The lot I was training with today are all twoddling on about caution, and being the prudent second wave... Pah! I don't want to mop up stragglers I wanna pull out demon spines and shove them up their puckered arses. Don't get me wrong I 'aven't got a death wish, but I'm the last son of the crusader city that bares my name. Human you know, not a trace of demon blood, but I was still a swaddled babe that warping wave hit my home - now look at me," his tail waves back and forth tapping each of his horns in turn, "Don't see the point in being all brooding and such, but on me oath, I'm going to become strong enough to find that many armed hell b&*~# - Zuhra Aponavicus, curse of Drezen - and make her pay for turning a city of heroes into mindless monsters, and stealing my humanity."

Drezen blinks drowsily and holds up a finger for a second before belching hugely, [b]"Ah, pardon me. Sorry, I've never been great at intense, rather have a good time. Lets see pitch time hey? Hmm, I can heal you, though I generally think I'm better off lopping of demon heads in battle, and then there's my winning personality?" He trails off with a lop sided grin, paying for his whiskey and ambling over to take a seat by Sirhan.

The door swings open, and a massive armored figure enters the Watchful Blade, walking with the careful gate of someone who is drunk, but aware of the fact. Its not hard to identify him as a priest of Gorum, his fullplate bristles with the spikes so beloved of that order, and the hilt of a greatsword juts over one shoulder, the hooved feet are perhaps something of an outlier, but then the Crusades attract some strange folk...

Steadying himself against the doorframe, the big fellow reaches up to remove his horned helm, pulling it clear to reveal a red skinned, but rakishly handsome visage, complete with a set of horns jutting from his forehead, that turn out not to have been detatchable. Its obvious now that a great deal of his bulk is supplied by the armor.

"Drezen Silver, Cleric of Gorum, don't smite me please it won't work - I might look a tad demonic, but I really can't help it," he says in the bored tones of someone used to repeating the same phrase adnauseum. "Tomorrow I kill demons, today I'm looking for an ample supply of woman, and a mouth full of warm ale," he pauses, "'s possible I mean the other way round."

With this pronouncement and a few calls of greeting from patrons within the bar the tiefling clanks on in, followed by a long tail covered in a layer of downey orange fur. The tail sways back and forth, with each step, as if conducting a rather lethargic orchestra.

Approaching the bar and giving the dwarven innkeeper and her ample assets an approving nod Drezen calls,

"Your finest whiskey please my love, I've worked up a rare old thirst training and I might as well sample the good stuff before I'm too drunk to tell the difference between whiskey and horse piss."

He nods at Jin companionably, overhearing the last of the elf's words and offering,

"Don't know if you are the open minded sort, but there's plenty around who can tell you Drez can smash demons good and proper - me and me Ire," his tail taps the hilt of the greatsword pointedly as he says the last. "I'm always looking for a chance to spill some demon blood, s' what I do."

Ah, brilliant, then I think I am ready for approval, or at least consideration :) Here's hoping.

To clarify I have taken the Demon Spawn (Pit Born) variant tiefling heritage, and the alternate racial traits prehensile tail, fiendish sprinter, and scaled skin.

I'm open to considering Evangelist, but it seems to loose a lot over Mendevedian Priest, medium, and heavy armor proficiency, shield proficiency (though who cares), spontaneous casting of cures, and a free feat.

@ Dark - Demon-spawn is fine, no feat needed. If you take the feat you can roll on the table.

This is what I want to do DM Jelani, is this no longer okay? The question from dark was,

Do we need to take the Fiendish Heritage feat to select one of the alternate Tiefling heritages? I was thinking a Demon-spawn Barbarian related to the original tribes of the Worldwound.

I'm happy to rebuild from the races guide, but this seems a bit easier as I'm not really familiar with that mechanic.

Okay here we are, virtually done, I'll need to adjust for the race, but I'm hoping the ARG variant will allow me to be pretty close. I'll go look at the ARG and see what I can do :)
