I have a major business trip coming up in early Feb. AFfter I get back from that I will decide if I have the time and gumption to resurrect the game.

I hope we can keep going, man!

I am thinking heavily about bringing it back, and how my new found disdain of responsibility are going to work together...

Maybe my employers will give me one of the two promotions they have me doing 75% of the work for, and i can relax a bit

Just a tip, I am waiting for you guys to do something. People who sit around the house talking to swords don't have andventures run up to hump their leg.

Liberty's Edge

to add some more thoughts on this:

First, a frontline character tends to have about 8 hp/level and a second line character has about 5 hp/level, or a little bit more than the value 2d6 and 1d6 per level. Of course individual characters can vary from this a lot, but for discussion it works.

So at first level, it would take a DC 10 check to heal most of a second line character, and DC 15 for Front line. Neither of which is too hard for a first level healer.

At 10th level though, healing most (and i am figuring 75%) in a single try would be alot more difficult. Along the order of DC 40-45. Which is much harder to hit, even for a tenth level healer.

So you probably need two attempts to heal someone, and two attempts is all a single healer gets. After that the wounds are locked in.

Which brings up the second point, and the more major flaw with my system, which is that wounds older than 5 minutes are "locked in" and can't be healed. So you have to track old wounds and new wounds.

Finally, I wouldn't argue against making each use of the skill consume some resource so that the cost is there too.

Liberty's Edge

To cut down on the need for magical healing, I want to suggest the following. New us of Heal skill.

Rename the current First Aid stabilize.

First Aid

Takes two minutes to apply, must be done within five minutes of taking damage. Recipient must be stable and resting during the application.

DC 10 heals 1d4
DC 15 heals 1d6
DC 20 heals 2d6
DC 25 heals 3d6
And so on with DC +5 getting one more d6

The person applying First Aid must decide what level to heal at before making the roll, failure by 10 or more inflicts 1/2 the healing result as damage. For example, a botched attempt to heal for 8 would inflict 4 damage instead.

---

This allows a certain amount of non-magical healing. Recognizes that some of the hp damage represents open wwound that could be addressed quickly. A single PC witht he heal skill can heal 1 person twice or two people once each after each fight.

Oh well, just my two coppers

But calms down a bit after breakfast. “Well, someone help me find a buyer for these giant coins – with some money behind us we have more options…”

Valessa thinks about somewhere in town to sell the coins … Local Knowledge result 22, as above.

You find a group ready to head North to Sharn offering to pay 18000 gp for the coins. You can take it or not.

Can I cast detect Magic to see how strong the spell on the sword is?

You can, and I presume you do...

The blade gibbers endlessly whenever it is drawn from the sheath. It begs you not to return it to the dark, before screaming about the brightness of the light.

Focusing your magical awareness on it reveals that it is not magical itself, though the residue of powerful transmutation magic is soaked into it.

Waking the next morning, you find a hastily scrawled note from Beren. He has left in the night to pursue the trail of the murderer that brought him here.

Liberty's Edge

Male Engineer Geek 6/Engineer 5/Engineseer 1

Drawn by fickle strands of fate, or the rampant need to find approval in the eyes of others, or in one solemn case following a boiling trail of icy blood across miles of mud and murky sea, souls cast as flotsam on the sea of destiny washed ashore on the ragged shoals of Stormreach. There, they found a moment’s comfort in the silken strands of society or those that bound beautiful women to the deck of the Tethered Wench.

Peace lasted far too short a time, as it was shivered by unnatural lightning wrestled from nature by a Sahuagin shaman. His cohorts lead a deadly raid onto the ship, clearly seeking for a single specific person, and only the intervention of burgeoning heroes saved so many from a watery grave.

Shared adversity bred common purpose in many but another drifted away. They began an investigation of the Sahuagin’s motive, at the same time they attempted to find the trail that had lead the noble savage shifter so far from home in search of justice.

The trail of the Sahuagin lead to rumors and stories. A shipping company which had placed a bounty on the heads of the fish-men, and was nearly bankrupted by an over zealous hunter. Clues left by the raiders suggested this hunter may be a bounty hunter known as Tessik the Claw. When they interviewed him, Tessik hired them to find a Malenti. Tessik explained the Malenti was responsible for a murder, and to throw Tessik off the bounty, the Malenti had blamed the slaughter of a Sahugin village on Tessik.

In conclusion, Tessik was being moved to Sharn for medical treatment, the injuries he had suffered during the raid on the boat being more than could be cared for in Stormreach. Tessik hired the crew to hunt down the Malenti, and to make sure that the grief mad shaman responsible for the attack was brought to justice. Though Tessik could only pay a pittance, the bounties totaled thousands of gold Galifars.

The search for the murderer that had fled to Stormreach just ahead of the shifter had lead the group to a rough orc bar on the outskirts of town. Expecting to find more clues for their hunt they instead found a blood steeped abbatoir. Narrowly avoiding blame for the impossible slaughter, the group failed to capture their quarry before it fled away. Now they know it reeks of feminine orc, and death.

New friends brought new opportunities, and the group found their way to an ancient giant ruin, surprisingly close to Stormreach. Entering through a collapsed roof they found themselves in a massive labyrinth somehow disconnected from the normal flow of time. Ancient pictures, and hidden messages lead them to a final conflict where they faced off against a malevolent spawn of Xoriat, a twisted aberrant sorcerer, and an impossibly old dragon in a four way battle to save time itself.

The intervention of ancient elves allowed the party to escape with their lives, and returned them to the city as though only a single moment had passed. And on their return, they found the inexplicable gratitude of the Undying Court, layed literally upon their doorstep.

I think only Rokko is leaving the group at this point, correct?

From the nice letter they sent us, apparently the local building where the computer bits are stored had a flat roof. When the storms hit (and by the time they got to NE ohio it was just a lot of rain) the down spouts got clogged, and the entire roof collapsed under the weight of 1 to 2 feet of water.

Thusly they had to fix building, then replace all the computer hardware.

My house had a muddy front yard...

Identifying the sword reveals that it has been subjected to transmutation magic, but is not itself enchanted in any way.

The spear is a Claw of Daelkyr, +1 Short spear, life bane (all liveing targets), but does 2d6 damage to a non-aberrant wielder.

Another thing, 3 days after returning to your rental property, an Undying soldier comes knowcking on the door. He is specifically asking for Valessa, who he hands a large chest, which is nearly weightless.

Inside, you find 8 gold disks, shaped like nine sided coins but big enough around to be appropriate for a large creature.

(These are actual giant coins, each worth 2500 gp if you can find a buyer)

The chest also contains a note, written in ancient elvish, that goes on at length thanking Valessa for her help. However, the words fade from the page as she reads them, leaving only a blank piece of papyrus.

(the chest is made from carved soarwood, can 22 cubic feet of stuff while weighing 5lbs) This is a very poor man's bag of holding...

As for Rifts, it was a excellent concept, but terrible execution.

I look at balance and say that if you look at different encouter types and the total power of a character across all of them compares with another it is balanced. But you take, for exampl, a full conversion 'borg and compare it with a body fixer, and they just don't compare.

Yeah, I can play doctor, but the economics of the system are gun based.

A basic pistol costs more than a doctors salary for a year (how the hell that works?!)

anyway...

I will continue running the game as long as it has players. There is a lot of stuff going on, already.

Discussion wise, unless Aubrey suddenly pops back in, Rokko survives, and takes the assistant position that Jyra was previously occupying by charm and charm

Beren has a "friend" to go see that sailed off to sea

And as a reminder, you have been hired to "find" a Sahuagin terrorist who some of you were even attacked by already.

Alright, I am going to call this battle (finally)

In a very tense few moments, you manage to gather up your fallen comrades, and get back to the column, just ahead of thousands of years of vines and creepers.

Sliding the disk into the hole in reality results in a sensation of being turned briefly inside orange.

When the searing darkness fades, you find yourselves standing around in a circle, as the ground in front of you begins collapsing, forming a crater nearly a mile in diameter.

Your return to Stormreach is uneventful, and you discover you have returned about three hours after you left...

5000 xp for all

Liberty's Edge

I had the opportunity to play 3 of the 4 organized play sessions, and the disorganized play session of Ascension.

For those who got to share my table, I was the studded leather bikini clad elf barbarian witht the two great swords on her back, and the short bow...

Anyway, all 3 of the standard sessions went great. I personally thought most of the scenarios were a bit too easy, but heard of many others having deaths or even TPKs to deal with.

Many of the scenarios seemed to reward non-standard thinking, which is something I love about all Paizo adventures. The guard left alone outside the warehouse was caught quite unaware when Ruthaer (my barb-ie doll) jumped into his arms and tried to yank his pants down. Gave the rest of my party the distraction they needed.

Overall, having had the chance to play, I would make the following recommendations.

1. split the tables up more. A bit more complicated to do muster, but instead of having the left and right side of the room, have the tables mixed so groups are not hearing the adventure right next to them.

2. Have a couple dozen semi-generated characters. For example, let people pick race, and choose feats, but have other stats and skills done already. All but one session people were murderfraging time generating characters.

3. water in the room would be nice, but is always a risk around so many people, and more importantly so many books

Otherwise society play was great.

As for ascension...

I had a good time in general but there were some very frustrating parts. I got to talk to a few of the DMs about it, and apparently there were twice as many people as was originally planned so some chaos was expected, but wow...

Finally,

Congratz to Paizo!!!

Between winning 8 awards, and having almost everybody at the con (that i spoke to) talking about their games, Paizo was miles above the lizards on the beach.

Thank you to everyone at Paizo, and all the volunteers for making sure I had the best for days of gaming I could have
