"Young lady, I do not believe that the township would store such tools, in fact the last set of them tools we acquired were tossed into the torch. However, I'd assume if you asked around the market place you'd most likely be able to find someone that would sell you some."

"Jack, with my years of experience with the Torch, the best I can do is guess. The nature of the fires are that they only generate heat one way, up. So I guess that it comes from a long narrow tube connected to the source of the flame. Also with the description of the caves, Khonnir never mentioned them being fire blasted."

Digging around her messy desk again, she pulls out a specific sheet and hands it to Jack. "This here is a writ that you can show to any of the merchants in town for a flat 20% discount on any gear you need to purchase," with a short pause and a sigh,"I wish I could offer a greater discount than that, but that's the best I can do."

"It looks like you've already made arrangements with Val. Finally, the entrance to the caves is flooded. You'll need to swim a bit to get to the caves. Joram Kyte has agreed to cast water breathing on any group to aid in entering the caves - free of charge, of course. You can find him at the temple of Brigh or up at Crowfeather Palace when you're ready to go."

"Anything else I can do for you?"

With a loud laugh,Dolga says,"They spreading that rumor about again. No one was gutted at the Marrymaid. Unless it was their wallet. Wrennie runs a clean shop, and her grrls are quite capable of taking care of themselves." With a considering pause,"Now I would believe if one of them had cutoff a customer's extremities, if'n you know what I mean..."

"So many questions. Where t' begin...

"Well, as to the first we hope that Khonnir hasn't died, but hoping is for the young and the foolish. When you been around as long as I you understand that the worst is likely and if'n you prepare for it, so much the better. Our little insurance policy, can bring him back. So don't grieve yet."says Dolga with a grim tone.

"As to what's down there, the caves are inhabited by several enormous vermin and other scavengers, along with some strange humanoids who had the ability to blend into the shadows of the cave walls, and a nest of gremlins. Khonnir believed this indicated a deeper connection in the caves to the Darklands, but of more immediate interest was the discovery of a wall of solid metal deep in the caves. A wall made of a skymetal alloy called glaucite. He said it was like the kind we mine from the hills and surrounding plains, but formed into a structure with doors. It was near one of these doors that Khonnir found the broken automaton that he brought back after his first expedition."

Glaucite DC10 KN:Engineering:

When the phrase “Numerian Steel” is used, the speaker is usually, knowingly or not, referring to an iron/adamantine alloy called glaucite. This dark gray metal is the material that constitutes the walls, floors, and ceilings of the strange ruins found throughout Numeria. Without more advanced technology, glaucite is extremely difficult to work with. Because the metal isn’t much better than steel for forging weapons or armor, and the process of extracting the adamantine from it is so expensive and time consuming that the resulting adamantine isn't worth the effort, Numerian scavengers have, by and large, left the walls and floors of the structures buried in the region untouched. It’s simply easier to scavenge smaller objects or work with normal iron or steel in the long run.
Glaucite has 30 hit points per inch of thickness (the same as steel) and hardness 15. It is half again as heavy as steel, and the difficulty of working with the material triples the object’s total cost to create.

"One of the doors in the wall was locked tight but the other was open. He had planned on exploring deeper beyond that door on his second expedition, but who knows if he actually made it that far?”

"Welcome to Torch"
Shuffling her papers about, she finally finds the one she wants.

Reading the paper in a slow deliberate voice Councilwoman Freddert says,"The city of Torch, hereby authorizes you to enter the caves under Black Hill to ascertain the the cause of the flames failure. The township is prepared to offer a reward of four thousand gold pieces for the rekindling of our livelyhoods."

Setting the paper down, she begins with a look of intense worry on her face,"We also have the matter of Councilman Baine's expedition that hasn't returned. We are also prepared to offer the reward of four thousand more gold pieces for his return, and if you bring him back alive we can throw in the scroll of Resurrection we have acquired if the worst has happened."

"Ahh the young troublemaker is back!"Finally looking up from her paperwork, she notices a full group of people,"... and I see you have a full adventuring party with you."

Studying the group carefully, squinting a lot, she pays particular attention to Jack. "Don't I know you?" after a moment she gives a very unladylike grunt,"grrnt... You were Khonnir's failed apprentice. You were a very strong and helpful lad, never could understand why'd you want to waste all that time with books and indoors studying."

"Well lets not stand around here in the lobby, come into my office.

A very surly looking dwarven lady meets you in the lobby of the Town Hall, "Welcome to Torch. As you can see the flames are out, so I can't issue any permits to smelt. What can I do for you?"
