Delkaneth's eyes widen at Pyotr's tale. "No wonder he was loath to give it up!" He looks the weapon up and down in the firelight. "But it suits you better than some thug out here in the middle of nowhere."

He feels a slight twinge of jealousy over such a rare find, but that emotion is quickly quelled by his natural curiosity: did the weapon have a storied history like Tanladvir? At the very least, how a powerful dwarven artifact came into the hands of a Freedomtown enforcer must be an interesting tale itself.....

Knowledge (History): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 does he know any interesting facts about the Koldukar dwarves?

"Then we definitely do not leave camp alone. And you better find a safe place to keep that thing while we're in town so we don't put the camp in danger."

A mischievous smile crosses the young man's face as he shrugs. "Again."

"Gladly. I have to finish my business with the sage also," Delkaneth holds up the scrap of parchment he has been reading. "Last time I went by myself I got into a little trouble, having a chaperone is probably a good idea."

He looks over at the pile of gear the halforc just removed. "I'd offer his services to learn more about that weapon, but he's horribly overpriced. And...Im not sure you want to be walking around Freedomtown with that thing? We've attracted enough attention already."

Delkaneth looks at the pile of treasures they have collected so far. "And maybe a little shopping....."

Delkaneth returns to the group dejected from his non-encounter with Karannah. He drops to the group next to their campfire and stares at the flames for a few moments, various scenarios running through his head of how to confront the woman and attempt to make things right. Everything that comes to mind is either foolish drivel or otherwise doomed to fail.

It is several moments before he gives up and instead reads the note from Sleer again, his hand absently rubbing the bump on his chest. Wonder what the old sot will make of those thorns?

Deciding that the problems of the world always look better under the light of the sun the young chelaxian decides to put both problems out of his mind until morning.

Del will not go to sleep yet, he'll continue to check his gear and otherwise wait for the others to bring the hermit back to the caravan.

I'm always torn about selling magic items. I'd hate to lose such a cool and unique item, but I know that if Delkaneth found magic shortswords I wouldn't change the character concept for them and would want to cash them in. A paladin who believes in justice but would rather disarm his enemies than kill them outright is a pretty cool concept, and "disarming" them by breaking their s#%^ is also pretty cool.

Just don't sunder anything that looks too valuable!!

Delkaneth greets the drover with a warm smile and gladly shares his bottle. "Glad to see they were good for something, but I agree the camp is better off without them. We'll have to let them off the hook at some point, think they've learned their lesson yet?"

He tucks the note into his pouch to read later and stays at the fire for a while longer before excusing himself to leave the men to their drinking and toasting. Once he finds himself a place to set up for the evening he reads the note by the light of his cantrip. Hells, does he like to talk fancy! I'll have to see how Dierik is in the morning, try to plan a trip back into the city then. Assuming Khozin hasn't cost us bad blood with the Sharpes.....

The chelaxian watches the caravan members from a distance as they complete their memorial customs around the fires. It suddenly strikes him how lucky he is; he has no lost loved ones to mourn this night. Sargan is still alive and well as far as he knows, he never knew his parents so no need to grieve for them, he knew little of the fates of any of the other orphans he grew up with......

Lucky to have never lost anyone? Or lonely with no one to lose?

Delkaneth gets up from the fire and begins to wander the campsite, hoping to find Karannah not on guard duty.

We've only been with the caravan a short time, so why does this feel like such a homecoming?

Delkaneth is glad to be back, glad to have succeeded in their mission to retrieve the potential cure. He is anxious to see the cure take hold and Dierik returned to good health, and that anxiety gives him a burst of energy despite the lateness of the hour.

That energy is quickly dampened as the young man looks around the camp. The folk still moving around at this hour quickly turn away from him if they deem to look his way at all, and it only takes moments for his last conversation with Lunt to creep into his memory.

Damnatum diabolum! He can't be right, my performance wasn't THAT good........ He starts to realize that the details of the event are lost in the haze of fever so he cannot truly be sure. Scanning the camp followers nearby he notices that Karannah is not among them.

Was it?

Delkaneth thinks about the two thugs who are either in camp serving Lunt or back in the city serving the old sot of a sage.

"That's a tax Im a bit familiar with, and collect it gladly."

He does raise a hand to wave at the halfelf as he rides away. Delkaneth certainly did not like the man but his magics did save his life during their little harvesting adventure.

He does his best to guide Harika to follow the others, mostly by letting the horse do the work herself.

Delkaneth looks to Pyotr, defacto leader of this little company and known stickler for the rules. "The horse is 'spoils of combat' like anything else and therefore ours by rights. Nothing says we can't sell it to anyone we want, and while I can't say I like him I don't dislike him enough to turn him over to what passes for justice to the Sharpes." He turns his gaze to Bonegrit.

"If that's a fair price for the horse I say we strike the deal and wash our hands of the entire affair."

"Ride? That's optimistic of you, isn't it? Im sure you could talk to Deramil about buying that horse. But Im also sure he wouldn't accept stolen Sharpe coin to pay for it." Delkaneth gives a glance to the ill-begotten ring, a reminder that all is neither forgotten nor forgiven. He then gestures to the spare horse they are leading. "Or maybe youd like to steal a horse from them as well?".

He moves Harika so she is in front of Khozin, not sure he could stop the man if he chose to ride off but determined to try. "If you truly regret the trouble you've caused, don't cause any more....."

Delkaneth watches Commor take off into the night, briefly considering what might happen if he threw an axe at the boy's legs. Delkaneth is not a religious man, but he does his best to respect the solemnity of what has just happened.

"How would we get him to Vigil? We are bound...elsewhere. Would The Lady truly want him out here?"

Ultimately he knows that the knights will determine the best next steps for Vythes' remains, and while he is determined to support his friend in those steps the urgency of their mission for the caravan tickles at the back of his brain.....

Delkaneth remains silent also. Even though he has never heard this knight's name before yesterday, it is clear that this is a man worthy of a bard's song and so much more. The young fame seeker does his best to handle the necessary odd jobs around camp so that Pyotr can have as much time with Vythes as possible.

Delkaneth wakes up that morning feeling better than he has in days. His fever all but forgotten, even the stiffness in his limbs is starting to lessen, the young man quickly completes the necessary tasks to take to the saddle in an effort to get back on the road and back to the caravan.

At first the senior Knight's delay is a source of frustration. As the time stretches on Delkaneth decides to put the delay to good use. Digging out that same red scarf he finds another nearby tree to be his sparring partner as he runs through several two-handed axe routines again and again. This time however that final axe throw hits the tree solidly and sticks........well below target, admittedly, but he still smiles as he pulls the weapon out of the wood instead searching for it in the grass.

When he is satisfied with the morning practice he returns to the group and finds Vythes still not ready to depart. Making himself comfortable against a pile of his gear Delkaneth pulls a small book from his pack and begins writing notes and making sketches from their delve into the garrison. His determination to return here one day and further explore the place is strong as ever so he wants to capture as much detail as possible while the memories are still fresh.

He watches silently as the dialogue between the knights leads to tears and eventual acceptance. Another stray? How many squires does one paladin need?

He steps closer to Bonegrit, whispering so as not to disturb the serene scene. "Can we fashion a litter or something, pull him behind the horses back to the caravan? Maybe Kelya or Zriorinta can do something for him?"

Delkaneth smiles, not at all surprised that Pyotr wanted to take the old Knight up on his offer. Man should enjoy his moment, he earned it.

With a nod to their hosts he leaves the light of the campfire, tapping Alagor on the shoulder on the way. Leading the other warrior through the darkness, Delkaneth returns to their original campsite and begins breaking camp and gathering their gear.

Once everything is collected and ready, Delkaneth and Alagor lead the mounts across the rough terrain to rejoin the group at Vythes' camp.

Delkaneth remains silent as the Knight of Ozem tells his tale and asks his questions. The strict codes of honor these men follow might be foreign to the young Chelaxian but he knows enough about them to know how prickly these knight-types can be when proper etiquette is not followed. Last thing their ragtag group needs is a social faux paux that sets them at odds with an organization as powerful as the Knights.

We've done nothing wrong, in fact we've done some good from their perspective, let Pytor get the credit for those deeds with this old warrior.

Delkaneth is not so sure that this group has completely earned his trust yet but Pyotr certainly has. Taking the halforc's words as an invitation he returns his axe to his belt and emerges from the shadows, entering the firelight on the opposite side of the camp from the Bellknight.

With both hands empty and held out to his sides for all to see Delkaneth gives a slight bow. "Nowhere is it written that 'honourable' and 'cautious' are opposites. I have no Sword Mark to present, but I travel with Ser Pyotr as one of his scouts. I am Delkaneth, of Westcrown, and I am very certain you've never heard of me. Yet."

Trusting Bonegrit to have arrows at the ready to help the situation from afar, Delkaneth creeps through the darkness behind Pyotr and the others. Briefly the thought crosses his mind that the party around the campfire might have their scout doing the same thing to sneak into position. He almost chuckles aloud at the thought - they would find quite a surprise if they try to sneak up on Bonegrit and Agtharda's night vision!

Putting that thought out of his mind he continues to circle around to the side of the others' campfire, keeping himself out of sight while still putting himself in position to aid his friends if it comes to that.

Sounds like a lot to carry but Del is for taking it...we've got the horses, and the caravan is still outside the city so we shouldn't have too much trouble selling it.

Once back in the throne room Delkaneth carefully examines the inside of the fanggate looking for a mechanism to reclose it. "As long as we don't accidentally close the things while we're still in here."

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16 to check for a way to close the gate. Doing his best not to touch anything that he might find.

Once the examination is done he returns his attention to the spoils of their battle. While none of the finely crafted gear suits Delkaneth's fighting style he can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship....and therefore the potential value. "I don't know much about smithing, are these broken pieces salvageable or should we leave them? Too bad Dunagan isn't here..." think we already tried to detect magic and nothing?

Delkaneth keeps one axe and the tanglefoot bag in his hands and stands guard watching the mote as the others divide up the gear for easy transport. Once ready he will shoulder his share of the load to leave the garrison.

For the first time since this little adventure started, Delkaneth looks at Khozin not with thinly-veiled contempt but with something akin to a playful grin as he rolls his eyes.

"Me carry big stick. Me hit stuff good."

Raising his voice he addresses the entire crew. "No hidden surprises that I can detect. Best remember to be careful: don't want any tails brushing against a sleeping skeletons and waking the whole place up, do we?"

As the ioun torch continues its orbit around his body, Delkaneth chants again and the three globes of light appear once more at the fanngate. With a overly dramatic bow and a flourish, he waves his hand back toward the arcade and the ranks of undead. "After you, of course."

'Antics'......feh. Besides, we could use a little levity here. If we really stopped to think about the dangers around us.......... With one last look back at the exits that are just out of reach, he moves into position to follow the others back out of the garrison.

Delkaneth looks up at the room's exits, the potential wonders beyond tugging at his imagination. Images or treasures and hidden secrets fill his mind but are quickly overtaken by the memory of their employer laid low in a tent back at camp.

Another time perhaps. And better equipped...... The list of potential supplies a true expedition would require are already filling his head as he nods his agreement with the others.

"Don't want to fight that thing in tight tunnels like that. Let's head back and save the boss, whatever else this place has been hiding for decades will keep for a little longer."

"Maybe one last thing....." Looking around the room again, the general structure of the place makes no sense to him. Why build all this to dead end here with only these crawlspaces as exits? Shouldn these fanggates be protecting access to more than a dead end hallway?

Another quick encantation and the young man walks the perimeter of the room checking the walls. Once he returns to the group at the fanggate he readies his weapons and his resolve for another walk through the undead legions.

use last 1st level spell to cast Detect Secret Doors and sweep the room before leaving.

Delkaneth heaves a sigh of relief as Pyotr manages to grab the creature. He rubs the wound on his thigh and his hand comes away bloody. Again. He shakes his head. Maybe staying in Sargan's shop wasn't a bad life after all

"I agree, we've got what we came for, maybe its time to get the hells out of this place."

As he returns his axes to his belt his hand brushes against one of his pouches and feels the outline of the silver torc within.

"Although......." The self-proclaimed treasure hunter wistfully looks around the room at the amazing sights and the open doorways beckoning him with the promise of even more amazing sights. Then he looks down at his hand, wet with his own blood, and is truly torn.

"Maybe a little more exploring might find us a better exit than walking back through Bone Alley back there? And who knows what other wonders this place is hiding?"

I'd be crying if I wasn't laughing so hard. Too funny! Maybe I should go Evangelist and start worshipping Desna: if she's going to rain this much bad luck on me she can throw me a few boons while she's at it!!

Desperate to keep the creature in the chamber and unable to think of much else he can do at this distance, Delkaneth recasts the Lights and tries the same trick again, this time putting the shape directly in front of the mote to try and redirect it's path before it gets to the doorway. Knowing its a long-shot, he tries to angle the light's appearance to coral the mote toward Bonegrit instead of toward yet another doorway.

Cast 'Lights again. Are there any other exits from the chamber at floor-level other than the fanggate? Del would move toward one if there is, figuring at some point the lil guy could try to use ANY exit so we should be guarding as many as possible.....
