Deanarth had become a little nervous at the prospect of Krallek's questioning, but was determined to see it through. If this guy can handle doin' it, I can handle watchin' it. Regardless when Melismar stopped it, a feeling of relief flooded through Deanarth. If I plan on getting strong, I'm gonna have ta be more comfortable around this kinda of thing. Still don't mind it waitin' abit.

Sounds good to me. I've done both types, and while I can find my own enjoyment out of the 'Dungeon Accountant' version, I much prefer the other. Though I do enjoy math. If you're curious, a Golden Idol to Pelor, melted down and poured into a portable hole, is approximately 3.5 million gold pieces. Just be careful when the paladin comes wanting it back.

Being the logistically minded individual I am, a few questions to everyone about how we should handle loot? Remember my experience is mostly table-top, this being my first pbp. 1) When we sell stuff, are you going to give us the total GM Trav, or want us to figure it out? 2) For division of loot/treasure, do we want to use the 'Dungeon Accountant' method (where we calculate the value of all treasure, divide it evenly, and deduct items from gained loot, resulting in a possible loot deficit when items received > treasure gained) or the more friendly divide cash evenly, give item to who it suits best. I've used both methods before and just curious what people prefer. 3) Since I don't really see a way to keep a nebulous 'party treasure' list, I assume we're dividing all assets between the group?

I'm on. Also Spark has some pretty big limitations on it's combat use. School evocation [fire]; Level bard 0, cleric/oracle 0, druid 0, magus 0, sorcerer/wizard 0, witch 0 CASTING Casting Time 1 standard action
EFFECT Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
DESCRIPTION You can make an unattended Fine flammable object catch on fire. This works as if you were using flint and steel except that you can use spark in any sort of weather and it takes much less time to actually ignite an object.

So same thing I said, but we give up surprise on 'em in exchange for some yappin'. Yea, I got a spell to put 'em to sleep. Probably best since this place would likely go up in flames if I go all out in here. If either the dining room or guesthouse have windows, I'll recommend I wait there. Otherwise in the stable.

"You want a plan? Here's one for ya. We lure 'em into the fort. Keep 'em from runnin' away. Then I knock 'em out with my magic. Anyone unlucky enough to stay awake can get knocked down by Krallek. Then we'll tie 'em up and beat some info out of 'em. After that we hang 'em. Nice, clean, easy. What could go wrong?" I stay safe and sound while the big guy does all the hard work.

Deanarth whispers back. "A burning building or two is fine by me, I just don't wanna be in it."
Here's the post I made on my groups forums, removing a couple names Since I apparently broke the "Don't be an *******" rule, I'm attempting to fix my character. I tried to cite sources. First off, the Divine Focus. Just to end the Oracle aspect of the arguement, quoted from the Pathfinder PRD (that's the official one): Quote: Unlike a cleric, an oracle need not prepare her spells in advance. She can cast any spell she knows at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her spells per day for that spell level. Oracles do not need to provide a divine focus to cast spells that list divine focus (DF) as part of the components.___________________________________________________________________________ _____________________ Secondly, spells with a somatic component. No I can't cast one while I have a weapon and heavy shield. There is no specific ruling I could find that you cannot cast with the light shield, but inferred from the buckler from the PRD: Quote: You can cast a spell with somatic components using your shield arm, but you lose the buckler's AC bonus until your next turn. You can't make a shield bash with a buckler. Now on that subject, Pathfinder does not state what action is required to switch a weapon from one hand to the other. This is not explicitly defined in the PRD, Errata, or FAQ, but was defined by a Creative Developer, James Jacobs: Quote: Switching a held object from one hand to the other doesn't require an action, so the end result is the same whether or not you use the light shield hand to lay on hands or your weapon hand after switching your weapon to the off hand, and then back to your weapon hand. The fact that allowing you to use your light shield hand to do so without so many fiddly steps is why I'd say it's fine to let it work that way. This means that I could simply downgrade my shield to a Light Steel Shield, losing 1 point of AC, and can still cast. This is only official so far as a Creative Developer stating it, and is not backed by any official rulings, so up to GM approval. I'll need you to approve or deny this *******. Otherwise I'll figure something else out.
Thirdly, someone mentioned material components, can't remember who. Here's the PRD for material components and focuses when casting a spell: Quote: To cast a spell with a material (M), focus (F), or divine focus (DF) component, you have to have the proper materials, as described by the spell. Unless these components are elaborate, preparing them is a free action. For material components and focuses whose costs are not listed in the spell description, you can assume that you have them if you have your spell component pouch. So it's a free action to use a material component. But per the Haunted curse for Oracles: Quote: Retrieving any stored item from your gear requires a standard action, unless it would normally take longer. Now since it's a move action to retrieve a stored item, and it's a free action to retrieve a spell component, it can be inferred that spell components are not stored items.
Of course this can be easier summarized by linking from the Official Advanced Player's Guide FAQ: Quote:
I think I've covered everything besides that one ruling. Let me know if you need anything else.

What, an old man in a run-down fire-trap of a building? One wrong spell and I'll probably roast the entire place. If those catapult's work, I guess that's something at least. Maybe I'll see if I can't mess with those later. Wonder how many people are stationed here? Deanarth begins to carefully examine the fort for other signs of life.
Male Human Cleric 1
After a blast of flame into their faces, I'm sure they'll decide it's best to stay off me themselves, if they know what's good for 'em. So he knows abit of magic himself, eh? Might've tipped my hand too far. Oh well, what's done is done, might as well see what he knows. And that 'boy' comment, by the gods. I'm sure they aren't THAT much older than I. So you know abit of magic yourself? What's yer specialty, if I may ask?
Male Human Cleric 1
Training? I'll have ya know I ain't no daft wizard carryin' a bunch of old books around. Ancient draconic magic flows in my very veins. Sure I ain't the best at controllin' it to it's fullest extent, but that's just 'cause of how powerful it is. A little real world trainin' is all I need. 'course if you're wantin' a more practical sense of what I can do, I can conjure a blast of fire, induce sleep in my enemies, and a few other minor spells. Most of this probably be a might bit beyond your ordinary swordswinger. Allies, allies. These are temproary allies, you'll need them for awhile. Not sayin' sword swingin' ain't useful or anything. Just some of the stuff gets abit complicated.

Deanarth cautiously takes the charter and looks it over while puzzling out the man's words. Is he trying to provoke me? Meh, he looks like he could take a few arrows for me and I'm sure I could outrun him if needed. Patsy's are always useful. I thank you for the offer but I think I'll pass. Charter looks good to me, so long as Mel ain't got no issues with ya, fine by me. Checks to see if Mel wants to look the charter over, and if not hands it back. By the by, what's yer name?
Male Human Cleric 1
Deanarth stows his charter. Indeed you are right, I am a sorcerer of exceptional talent, my abilites obviously recognized by the Swordlords agent. I may look a tad young, but by the time I'm done, the entire Greenbelt will know my incredible strength!. As Deanarth says those words, he gives a slight chuckle under his breath, but quickly recomposes himself. Sorry about that, I tend to get abit carried away at times. Just excited about this opportunity. But best we start walkin', plenty of distance to go still. And don't you worry a thing, I know my way around a fight. We gonna show those bandits a thing or two, and whatever else is out there that that wants ta pick a fight with us. On the subject, what about you. Any good with that knife? Deanarth points to Mel's rapier.
Male Human Cleric 1
Let's take a gamble, seems nice enough, though that could be an act. Deanarth shakes Mel's hand. I'm travelin' towards a place called Oleg's by charge of the Swordlords of Restov. I am ta meet companions who have been given similar charge. Deanarth fishes out his charter and displays it before Mel. Might you be one of those companions? Do we know how many have been given the same charter?
Male Human Cleric 1
Deanarth waves to the traveler with his free hand, and with his best fake smile on, strides toward's him. Don't look too impressive, but can't always tell. Better to play it safe. Well met, stranger. Tha name's Deanarth. I figured since we both seem ta be headin' in tha same direction, might as well see if ya want some company. Whatcha say?
Male Human Cleric 1
Deanarth travels down the road toward's this trading post listed on the map. Oleg's, huh. Mighty brave ta be settin' up shop this far south. Gonna hafta keep an eye on 'im. He see someone up ahead on the road. Wonder if he's one of the other charter bearers? Even if he's not, a travelin' companion wouldn't hurt. I could probably outrun him if a run into a hungry bear or somethin'. HELLOOO THAR! WAIT UP A MOMENT!
GM Trav: I re-read the background and did come off a little strong without any discussion of character development, so I understand your concern.
From an RP perspective, the desire for power comes from both the Red Dragon blood in his veins as well as coping for the loss of his family. He's avoided any connections with other people for the past two years and has lost some of his humanity. My goal for the character is to start off harsh and unforgiving, but as he stays with the same group of people (the other PCs) to soften his demeanor abit. That's also why I don't like the Dragon Disiple. I feel it's giving in to the Red Dragon aspect too much, in an RP sense. I don't plan to go (or justify) crazy evil, like killing people in their sleep or murdering innocents and smearing their entrails on buildings as a warning to others. My motiviations might be a little self-centered, but a kingdom built on trust and good faith goes alot farther than one built on fear. If you feel I'm still a little too dark, I can adjust the background as necessary or even submit a new one. This is just one idea
Here's my submission, Human Sorcerer 1 (Red Draconic Bloodline). The background information is in there but still fine-tuning the crunch on it. I'll reply back when It's done (probably tonight or tomorrow morning). I did want to make sure it's okay to take the alternative favored class bonus for human sorcerer's (Sorcerer: Add one spell known from the sorcerer spell list. This spell must be at least one level below the highest spell level the sorcerer can cast.) |
