About Dealan Garnett

Defense:

HP: 45 (4d10+20)
AC: 25 (10+2 dex+2 nat armor+9 armor+2 Shield)
Fort +9 Ref +3 Will +3

Offense:

Speed 30 feet (20 in armor)
Melee Oathkeeper +9 (2d4+7/*3) 10 ft range
Melee Oathkeeper +6 (2d4+7/*3) 5 ft range

Special Qualities:

Pole Fighting (Ex) At 2nd level, as an immediate action, a polearm master can shorten the grip on his spear or polearm with reach and use it against adjacent targets. This action results in a –4 penalty on attack rolls with that weapon until he spends another immediate action to return to the normal grip. The penalty is reduced by –1 for every four levels beyond 2nd. This ability replaces bravery. Dealan quickly learned how to fight those who decided closing in would save them from him.

Steadfast Pike (Ex) At 3rd level, a polearm master gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls with readied attacks and attacks of opportunity made with a spear or polearm. The bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 3rd. This ability replaces armor training 1, 2, 3, and 4. Dealan was always good at catching people when they were trying to get by him in training. Continued training made him better than ever.

Feats and Traits:

Unforgotten Your dogged determination reduces any nonlethal damage you take by 1 point, to a minimum of 1 point of nonlethal damage. You also gain a +1 bonus on Will saves. Dealan seeks to find his older brother Frederic, who was conscripted while Dealan was becoming a Knight. While he accepts that his friends who were conscripted are dead, he refuses to believe his brother could have died and longs to find him.

Step Up Whenever an adjacent foe attempts to take a 5-foot step away from you, you may also make a 5-foot step as an immediate action so long as you end up adjacent to the foe that triggered this ability. If you take this step, you cannot take a 5-foot step during your next turn. If you take an action to move during your next turn, subtract 5 feet from your total movement. Dealan's training with polearms convinced his teachers to educate him on not letting enemies try to sneak out of range.

Combat Reflexes You may make a number of additional attacks of opportunity per round equal to your Dexterity bonus. With this feat, you may also make attacks of opportunity while flat-footed. Dealan has always had fast reflexes. When he and the other boys would play Knight with sticks he was always able to thwack them when they ran past, at a much greater rate than they could thwack him

Weapon Focus- Ransuer You gain a +1 bonus on all attack rolls you make using the selected weapon. The Ransuer was the weapon Dealan trained with the most. Having fought his friends with quarterstaves before it just felt right in his hands and since then it has become his weapon of choice.

Improved Initiative You get a +4 bonus on initiative checks. Dealan was always quick as a child, and learned very early how to get the drop on someone even when ambushed by his friends in their games of Knight

Shield Focus Increase the AC bonus granted by any shield you are using by 1. Dealan grew used to wearing the buckler by forcing himself to wear it all the time and learning to defend with it.

Weapon Specialization- Ransuer You gain a +2 bonus on all damage rolls you make using the selected weapon. While training to be a Knight Dealan spent years solely practicing with the Ransuer, honing his skill and becoming a dangerous opponent.

Axe to Grind There is a fire in your heart that can't be quenched. You gain a +1 trait bonus on damage against foes who are threatened by only you. Dealan has a darker side of him that he often ignores. Part of him longs for the combat he missed when he needed to be there. Now with fewer friends, he longs to save those he has.

Principled You hold yourself to a strict code of behavior that guides all of your decisions and actions. You take a —2 penalty on Bluff checks and gain a +2 trait bonus on saving throws against charm, compulsion, and emotion effects. Dealan always wanted to be a real Knight, he made friends, was honest, and kind. Without realizing it he built up his own moral and emotional code that he stubbornly clings too when others won't. Rule number one of the code: never abandon a friend.

Trustworthy People find it easy to put their faith in you. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Bluff checks made to fool someone. You also gain a +1 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks, and Diplomacy is always a class skill for you. Dealan has made friends with some of the strangest(coolest) people and has a natural knack in getting people to trust him.

Depressed Due to the loss of his friends and his missing brother Dealan has sunk into a depression. While depressed he suffers a -2 penalty to diplomacy and intimidate. This can be fixed if he finds out what happened to his brother or comes to accept the loss of his former friends.

Backstory:

Dealan grew up in the middle class as a bakers son. He was born seventeen years before the great Arthur Pendragon pulled Caliburn from the stone. He grew up in a small town called Riverport, learning to bake as well as spending many childhood days climbing trees and swimming in the local river. He spent seven years in a blissful childhood. He often went swimming in the local river, competing with his older brother, Frederic, in how far he could swim. When they weren't swimming or baking they were climbing tree's in the town and in the Forrest, despite warnings not to enter. Dealan had many friends, including an orphan friend who Dealan gave a loaf of bread to each day. He grew up proud of himself for being a nice person, and always wanted to be the best he could be.

Dealan was never the odd one out, and had many friends throughout his childhood, playing Knight with the other boys, and believing his brother that girls were infectious. Yet an odd encounter in the forest would soon change his mind on that. He met a young red haired girl there, who he found was nice, and not at all infectious, though he did remember to keep a safe distance the entirety of the meeting. Yet when he went back the next day to meet her, he wasnt able to find her. He continued this search once a week, wanting to find his friend. Yet despite all this he keeps this girl secret, only telling this part of the story to his Squire before making her swear secrecy.

He grew up in Rivertown for fourteen years, becoming a strong young man, helping with harvests, baking, swimming, and continuing his weekly searches into the forest, though he began to doubt the girls existence. One day a man named Duke Loukos arrived in town and saw Dealan hand his orphan friend a loaf of bread and some vegetables. He watched Dealan for a week, while looking at the others to find anyone who he thought could be a Knight. He saw Dealan do the same thing everyday, and soon learned from the young mans parents that this happened daily since Dealan met the boy. The Duke decided that Dealan was meant to be a Knight, and asked the boy to leave with him the next day. Dealan requested one day to say his goodbyes, and the request was granted.

Dealan woke up early to say his goodbyes to the people in town before disappearing into the woods. He never told anyone what happened there, only that he wanted to do one last day of climbing. When he came back his boots were ruined and he was missing his tunic, which he said had been completely destroyed climbing up a particularly tall tree. He left with the Duke to begin his life as a Knight the next day.

While off training to be a Knight he learned that Frederic and most of his friends had been conscripted into the local militia for a war with the Fey. He hoped they were ok, but every month he learned that another of his friends died. All of them had been placed in the same unit, and it was a vicious war. Soon he had learned that all of his friends who had been conscripted were dead, including his orphan friend. Three months letter he got a letter than his brother was missing in action, most likely dead. Bitter at the Gods who should have protected everyone, and bitter at himself for not being there to protect them he blamed himself. The next day he lit the part of the letter saying his brother was most likely dead on fire, and vowed to find Frederic and bring him back alive.

Outside of training himself he has spent most of his time baking in the Ward. This has allowed him to keep his depression at bay the most, and while it still affects him he is able to loose himself in baking. Each month for the last two years he has saved up some of his pay to buy a silver and amethyst ring. He has kept this hidden, but he wasn't able to hide it well enough from his Squire who tried to figure out who the ring was for, creating many rumors as to who Dealan would propose too in the process. Despite this Dealan seems relatively oblivious to the rumors.

Physical Description:

Dealan is a man of average height and a build that does not display how strong he really is. He is a thin man, though not reedy, with decently muscled arms, and broad shoulders. His eyes are a deep hazel, with a fire burning behind them that speak of an intensity difficult to rival waiting to be unleashed. He has a pale complexion, due to spending many days in the shade of trees, swimming, and playing Knights in roof covered alleys between houses in Riverport.

His armor is well polished with his own sigil painted onto the buckler. A Snarling Dragon face made of wheat with one green eye and one amethyst one.
