Can anyone recommend stories set in Asia during the fictional pulp era? Prefer Asian protags if possible. Thanks!

While not exactly 'pulp' you might be interested in the works of Robert van Gulik. He wrote the 'Judge Dee' series of mysteries set in Tang era China. They have more focus on adventure, especially with Judge Dee's three sidekicks (magistrates). They are very well done, and are frequently reprinted by University of Chicago press. 'The Haunted Monastery' is a personal fave..
