This doesn't really address the question of maze core items, but what is being described against real world options sounds more accurately to be a uniclamp (weapon accesory from Armory) to attach one gun to another. The only limits on those are "handheld item of up to 1 bulk" and are literally just rail mounts to attach stuff to guns.
