My players were always in mortal terror of slipping into ravenloft so it holds a special (dark) place in my heart. The most memorable moment saw the groups ranger attempting to jump out the window of a tower that was slipping into ravenloft, he was knocked out when he hit the ground and ended up in ravenloft anyway. In plain view of three hungry ghouls...
I've had groups who have tried to run all drow groups before, but unfortunately one of them either takes their internal rivalries too far (my friends like to fight and argue) or one of them takes their "evil" alignment to far and sure enough betrayed the others to a. take all their stuff or b. join the main bad guy of the campaign. Its fun while it lasts though.
Personally, my only problem with elves is that they're too run-of-the-mill for my tastes. I prefer and often have a playing group of:
Anyway, i know i could change elves's image in my campaign but my PC's have that standard image too thickly in their heads too embrace a change. -More scalymen!
Lizardfolk have always been my favorite and my campaigns tend to show it, i.e. they hold places of power, unfortunately none of my PCs are ever that interested in them
