Hi Dan! I'm in charge of the PACS Open this year!

Advancement is done by teams. When you fill out your scoresheet for Round 1, you're going to talk about which slots on Saturday you are available for Round 2. Once I know which teams have advanced to Round 2, I'll spend some time on Friday night making a schedule that can suit everyone, and then text teams that advanced letting them know when they should show up.

Thanks lammars for the info. =) That certainly helps with planning. Good luck running the Open, it sounds like a lot of work.

And thanks Race Dorsey for your input as well.

Hello All.

I'm looking to try the PACS Open for the first time this year at Gen Con. I've signed up for a round 1 slot. There are a number of round 2 slots, some of which work with my schedule and some that don't. Both round 3 slots are available for me.

Can anyone who has participated in the past, or anyone involved in organizing, share some insights on how the scheduling for round 2 works? Is it flexible? Does it depend on when you played round 1? Do teams advance together? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks!

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but Gen Con is tomorrow and I'm still not seeing the new season listed in the events. Does anyone have any word on the status of these events?

I have 8 slots of "ACG: New Season (To be determined). I have yet to get my scenario, but last year think it was a week before gencon that I got them. Hold on tight, gonna be a crazy GenCon!

Thanks for the info. I'll keep my eyes open over the next few days.

Has anyone been able to find any ACG events for the new season on the Gen Con event system? I've been checking almost daily since the blog post about the new season, and I can't find anything. There are plenty of the Seasons of the Shackles, Runelords, Righteous, and Plundered Tombs, but the only thing that comes up with any relation to Factions' Favor is the Special. Is there any word on when those events will show up in the system?

Same here. Any word on those events being added? Or am I being obtuse and just can't find them?

Hello All,

With apologies for any breach of etiquette, I've posted a question over in the Adventure Card Guild forum about how the organized play works at Gen Con. I'm cross posting here in hopes that more people see my question and can offer some insight. Check it out here:

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Good Morning All,

I did the Cosmic Captive Special last year at Gen Con and had a blast. It was my first organized play ever. I'm looking to do a lot more organized play this year, and I'm hoping someone with some experience can help me understand the process.

If I, for example, want to run the season of the shackles, I see sixteen identical events listed at different times, all of which mention the seven available adventures (including the prequel). Would I sign up for multiple sessions of that event, then just choose an adventure level when I arrive at each session? So my first scheduled session I would sit down at the 0-1 (or 0-0, depending on my mood) table, then when I come back for my next session I would sit down a the 0-2 table, then 0-3 at the next session, and so forth?

Is it reasonable to get through a full season in one Con, while still enjoying the Con? Or would I be committing myself to all PACG all the time if I want to run an entire season? (Not that it would be a bad thinig...)

Finally, any thoughts on character class? I ran a Cleric in the special last year, and it was fun enough that I would play it again, but I'm also open to other classes. Are there any classes/roles that seem to be in short supply, or seem to be the most appreciated at conventions?

Thanks for any thoughts, tips, tricks, you can offer!

That's it, thanks! I was thinking it was the difference between helping someone solve their problem and solving their problem for them. Thanks for the help.

Here's another fun one for you helpful folks.

I was introducing the game to some friends last night, and we had some trouble with the difference between the Fear spell and the Black Spot spell. I know that Black Spot can be used on someone else's check while Fear can not, but I was not able to explain the difference. The wording between them is similar, neither spell limited to 'your' check and neither spell specifically allowing 'any' check.

Can someone point me to the pertinent rule?

Thanks everyone!

Here's a (probably) silly question for you all:

Is there any reason to NOT utilize the most recent pdf rule book (currently for WotR, unless I'm mistaken) regardless of which base set your're using? I understand that I'll need to use the S&S rule book if I have a question about ships, but other than that, the newest version has most/all the FAQ stuff in it, right?

What do you fine people do?

I was able to participate in the Cosmic Captive special event (which seemed to be 4 per table from what I could see), and had a blast. Am I correct in understanding that I need to wait for Paizo to update my (newly created at the event and newly registered today) character to reflect my participation in that event? There's nothing I should be doing to update that information?

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I don't see anything listed in my area (western NY, specifically Rochester). I reached out to the regional coordinator to see if they might have any additional information. I've also reached out to a couple of game shops in the area, and am waiting to hear back.

Being relatively new to the organized play world (I've played the game at home, but only just started organized play), I'm really not sure what I would need to do to run an event myself. The first (probably dumb) question I would have is, if I run an event, do I get to actually *play*?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Good Afternoon, All. Apologies in advance for the "newbie" question. I just joined my first organized play session at Gen Con, and had an absolute blast! (The Cosmic Captive, if anyone else participated.) I earned a few minor rewards, and now am interested in playing more ACG organized play.

My question to you all is, what is the best way for me to try to track down organized play for the ACG in my area? Either something on a regular schedule or cons or whatever? I did some poking around the website, but didn't really find anything. It's quite possible I missed what I'm looking for.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks, everyone. Glad I was playing it correctly. I guess I should re-read the rules, now that I've got a few games under my belt. A lot of the specifics will probably be more applicable to things I've seen, and I'll hopefully be more able to remember them.

Does discarding an animal card to activate Lini's 2nd power (use a d12 for Str or Dex) count as discarding it for its power, and therefore triggers her 1st power to allow you to shuffle that card back into her deck instead of discarding it?

I assume the answer is 'no', and that her first power only triggers when you use the animal ally for one of the powers printed on that particular card, but I'm not positive.

Thanks everybody. That's what I assumed, but wanted to be certain.

When you discard a card from the blessings deck to activate a ship's power (such as the Wormwood's 'add 1d12 to your check to defeat a bane or a ship'), does that card become the 'active' blessing? As in, is at now the blessing that is matched by blessings in your hand or copied by Blessing of the Gods? I presume so, but I'm not sure.

Sorry if this has been answered. I searched the FAQ and the forums, but did not find anything.
