The slightly pompous paladin with a love of acting and theatrics. Also a well played character. Honestly I felt like I had a hard time getting anywhere with Daeron other than generic "know it all wizard". I wanted to up play the engineering angle, but I don't think I really did that at all. Oh well. @TCB: As far things go with the Minkai game, that sounds like it could be a lot of fun. I'd be interested in doing something like that. I don't have a ton of attachment to Daeron as a character (never really found my groove with him). Mechanically, one thing that springs to mind is the E6 or E8 mod to Pathfinder. Basically you stop levelling once you hit 6th or 8th but you keep gaining feats and stuff. I don't remember all the specifics of the rules, but it does seem interesting. That might be worth a look (if it wasn't what you were referring to above).

Sorry for the delays. Chuckling, Daeron responds to Akulayok in Elvish, "That sounds reasonable. Though I'm of the opinion that Ameiko is formidable enough to scare off all but the most persistent of attackers." Turning his attention back to the child, Daeron's semi-serious expression breaks down and he's overcome with a giddy grin. "Truly Ameiko, he's a delight. Congratulations and good fortune on you and your son. I look forward to seeing him grow into a man worthy of great respect."

We proved our innocence and exposed nasty evil dude, inciting a nasty change which the Erutaki were understandably not thrilled with, but I'm ready to hit the road and go deal with this mysterious Amatatsu lady and then make it through the frozen wastelands. I'm really eager to get to Minkai as I know pretty much nothing about it in this setting. Should be fun. :)

Could this have to do with the monoliths, perhaps? They were said to grow in the same time frame. As he descends into the darkness, Daeron can't help but feel a little remorse that as old a man as Tunuaq was living in such conditions. An insidious thought, that, given his crimes. Fiddling idly with his top as it sits in his pocket, Daeron snorts at Tunuaq's show of bravado. He seems oddly at east, though I suppose there's little enough left to him. Noting Ameiko's nod, and his companions contemplative silence, Daeron inquires, "So tell us, Tunuaq, what we should make of the poem's in the your hidden sanctuary? You were embarrassed, as I recall, when I inquired about them before. Why? Could it have something to do with the woman you mentioned in them?" Indirect seems like a reasonable approach for now.

Did you notice how when I read aloud the poem, he grew embarrassed, as if I'd discovered a love poem or something to that effect. I dare say that doesn't really narrow anything down. Still, this is interesting. That the song mentions some 'impossible love' seems to suggest that a line of inquiry pursuing that aspect may bear fruits with Tunuaq." Daeron muses aloud as he runs over what the rest of the group has been saying.

After a few hours searching through his books, Daeron looks up at the rapping at his wagon's door. Standing, he makes his way over to the entrance and nods his greeting to Sandru. Following the man to Ameiko's wagon, Daeron can't help but begin to grow excited by the revelations to come. Who is this mysterious Amatatsu that Tunuaq knows of? Entering the wagon, he takes his seat at the given time and listens with rapt attention to Ameiko's speech. He nods along idly as Ameiko builds to the central point, the praise rolling from his as water from a duck. As Ameiko explains her quest, Daeron nods excitedly as many things begin to grow clear. Yes, this explains a great deal. I was aware she was royalty, but now our great purpose and flight in the middle of winter grows significantly clearer. With a seated bow (as best as he can manage), Daeron replies, "I for one would be honored to pledge myself to your cause, though I have done so already, I believe. You have proven to be an honorable woman in the months I've known you and I will happily devote myself to your cause. To Minkai and wherever our efforts may take us, I am pleased to be your friend and devoted ally."

Daeron struggles with his choice of word for a moment, "vindictiveness in her manner right now. Obviously such an execution makes any inquiry somewhat more difficult." Daeron manages a small smile at his gallows humor. Pavel's question and Seila's answer pique Daeron's curiosity and he listens intently to her explanation. I suppose that could make some sense. We are strangers and he is a trusted advisor. It would be far easier to blame it on us than anything. But it makes no sense to think his actions justified on their own merits. Disquieted by the thought, Daeron takes a moment to respond to Theoden's question which gives Pavel a chance to respond. Snorting in amusement at Theoden's subsequent response, Daeron replies, "I believe I was quite taken in by your false anger, Theoden, as evidenced by my lack of translation. I hadn't the slightest notion that you wished to be a thespian. Perhaps you should consider practicing a show with the rest of the caravan? Most Varisians I've met have had a certain proclivity for song, dance and theater. I find it likely you'll be able to rouse a crew to perform some drama or another."

Taking a protective step alongside Ameiko, Daeron readies himself for trouble as he waits for Tunuaq's answer. In an aside to Manulani in Auran, Daeron says, "Go fetch, Akulayok. Nodding as Akulayok touches on many of the same points he had wondered about, Daeron listens for a response from Nalvanaq. It is odd that this revelation hasn't caused an uproar. Why has Nalvanaq not responded with anger? What about the rest of the tribe? Discomfited by the tribe's relative silence, Daeron nods idly to acknowledge Pavel's questions, though it's obvious he's distracted. Gritting his teeth at the tribe's reaction, Daeron glares at Tunuaq for a moment before opening his mouth. Clicking his teeth shut as Akulayok and Theoden both erupt in angry tirades. Wincing and meeting Pavel's panicked gaze, he motions calmingly to Theoden, declining to translate his friend's words. "Pavel has the right of it. We must remain calm, rational and unflinching in the face of their disbelief. Prove them wrong again and again and they'll see sense." Nodding thankfully as Ameiko chimes in, Daeron claps Theoden on the shoulder (as much as a thin elf can) and says, "Have a seat and we'll give you some time to rant. I don't want to leave these people in thrall to that monster. I can't imagine you do either, no matter how frustrating it is." Adding a meaningful look, Daeron turns on his heel and clasps his hands behind his back as he strides towards Tunuaq. "Tunuaq, my questions were as follows. Why did you smash the eggs of the dragon, Icy Scourge? As you have explained, you believe it was for the good of the tribe, but I fail to see how killing its hunters could qualify as 'help'. Enlighten us, if you would. Second, did you act alone in doing this evil or did someone, perhaps your patron Sithug directed you to do this? I'm sure it would please a demon, who are notable for thriving on chaotic destruction, to see your tribe frozen and dead on the Wastes after Icy Scourge has killed them." Daeron pauses, levelling a disgusted gaze at the shaman for a moment, before he asks, "Did the Demon Lord Sithug direct you to incite the dragon to attack?"

What better way to get us thrown out then for us to make a false accusation against Sonavut. Watching Tunuaq for a moment, Daeron tries to get a read on the man. Deciding it was futile at the moment, Daeron turns his gaze back to Sonavut, "I believe I have but one further question, though I welcome input from my companions. Given your answers thus far, I expect you to answer no to this one as well. Were you, Sonavut, aware of the concealed cavern in which Tunuaq was hiding?" Assuming it's a no: Daeron waits calmly for a moment, unsurprised by her answer. Turning to his companions, Daeron asks in Erutaki for Nalvanaq's benefit, translating as he is done, "I see no other line of inquiry that we should follow, do you?" Daeron pauses to allow his friends to answer. "My inclination is that there are three possibilities. First and most unlikely in my mind, that Sonavut has resisted the spell and is speaking falsehoods. Given the mental willpower necessary for such a thing, something even I would find difficult, I find this unlikely. Second, the spell isn't working as intended. I also find this unlikely, though I would only be able to confirm my suspicions through arcane investigation that I doubt would be allowed. Third, and most likely in my mind, is that Tunuaq has mislead us and has planned for us to try to implicate Sonavut for some reason."

(AC 21/ 14 Tch/ 18 FF, HP 29/29, Fort + 3, Ref + 5, Will + 6, Perc + 9) Looking up from his work at his scrolls, Daeron frowns at the guards for a moment before nodding to Manulani and donning his furs. Striding from the hut, he follows the guards silently as he's lead to Nalvanaq's hall. As Nalvanaq makes her address, Daeron quietly translates from Erutaki for the benefit of his companions. Done translating, the elf studies the woman standing at Nalvanaq's side for a moment. Clearing his throat, he replies in Erutaki, Erutaki: "I for one welcome Miss Merrilon's insight into the veracity of our words. We have told no lies, only done you a great service and braved many dangers, as Akulayok has said, to bring you truth."

Understandable that she is angry, but we've done a service in bringing this to her attention. Should she try to turn us out though... Daeron grimaces and sets aside the grim thought for later. He follows along with the guards, allowing himself to be led but waving away any attempt to guide him forcefully. Daeron's wait: Over the next few days, Daeron spends time going over the evidence they've gathered thus far, writing his discoveries into his parent's workbook and scribing scrolls (which is TBD). We're completely isolated? Or are all of us together in one room?

His smiles fades in an instant as Nalvanaq reacts in sudden anger. Placing a restraining hand on Manulani, Daeron tenses as his eyes dart from Tunuaq to Sonavut to Nalvanaq. Keeping a watchful eye out, he holds his tongue and complies with Nalvanaq's demand for quiet.

And yet she honestly seems surprised by the accusation. Could Tunuaq have mislead us. Feeling suddenly doubtful of the truth of the situation, Daeron nods to Pavel's request, "With pleasure." Snapping his fingers as he barks a quick word in Draconic, he watches Tunuaq carefully as he seems to reappear from midair. Daeron muses aloud as he taps his chin with a single slender finger, "Having everything here in the open is refreshing, though I note you didn't feel the need to translate for Nalvanaq all of Theoden's words. Why, Sonuvat?" He translates his own words back to Varisian for the benefit of the rest of his group. I forgot Manulani is trained in sense motive, so here's a roll for him as well, TCB. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

The elf pays close attention to the accuracy of the translation of Theoden's tale, simultaneously maintaining his observation of Sonuvat. I'm glad that Theoden has taken the initiative, as this sort of telling of tales is far from my finest skill. Acknowledging Theoden's look with the barest of nods, Daeron maintains his watchful silence, content to listen and observe for the time being. Sense Motive with awareness: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 Is Sonuvat acting nervous or otherwise showing signs that she's uncomfortable.

If Tunuaq should try anything, let me know and I can dispel the invisibility." Watching Pavel for a moment until he's sure the spell has been cast, Daeron reaches out to touch Tunuaq's shoulder. He addresses the shaman in Erutaki, "Tunuaq, escorting you to Nalvanaq under guard will likely cause an unnecessary blow to your prestige. If you were only acting under Sonuvat's orders, then that would be a weakening of the tribe without reason. Remain silent and do not resist my spell and it will render you unseen. We will be able to see you, but the rest of the village will not. Do what's right for the village and remain silent." Having suitably warned the shaman, Daeron casts his spell on the Erutaki man, who winks out of existence. Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 If he tries to resist, the save DC is an 18. Nodding in satisfaction, he addresses the remainder of the group, "That out of the way, let's be off to Nalvanaq." You should involve the sword more. I see a lot of potential for amusement with Pavel's talking sword.

(AC 21/ 14 Tch/ 18 FF, HP 29/29, Fort + 3, Ref + 5, Will + 6, Perc + 9) Pavel's sword can cast See Invisibility, just a thought. :) I don't know if Daeron actually knows about that. Looking at the village, Daeron shakes his head in frustration. "There's not a chance you'll be able to sneak through the village. Give me some time and I can render Tunuaq invisible. If one of you have a spell allowing you to view the unseen, now would be an excellent time to make use of it." Taking a seat in the snow, heedless of the cold, he pulls his spell book from his pack. Closing his eyes and gently resting his hands on his needs, the slender elf begins his meditation, sitting perfectly still as he takes a quarter of an hour to prepare the required arcane ability. Standing and dusting himself off, Daeron asks, "Now that I have that prepared, can one of you view someone who's invisible?" I'm taking Fast Study at 9th level cause I hate waiting a quarter hour for spells. :)

Running over the magic he has available at the moment, Daeron sighs in frustration. "That sounds wise Pavel, in preventing any but the Chief knowing about our conversation. There are currents here at work that could drag us under if we're not careful -I believe that's the Varisian sailor's saying- and we should seek to be cautious where we can." Mulling over Pavel's suggestions, Daeron responds, "That seems like as reasonable a course of action as any. I've no real skill at diplomacy, like Theoden does, so I feel it best that I should accompany you, Pavel. An alternative that presents itself to me is to hide Tunuaq. I've magic capable of rendering him invisible. The downside to this is I don't have the means available to see him in his invisible state, so there's nothing to stop him slipping away. Vexatious to say the least. If we decide to go down that route, it will take roughly a quarter hour for me to prepare, as the arcane demands a certain state of mind in order to prepare."

Assuming this wasn't common knowledge, I would think that counts for something as well. Either way, I don't know that we have much choice." Daeron finishes reasoning aloud in response to Pavel and Akulayok. Following Akulayok as he leads the way into the village, Daeron keeps a careful eye on Tunuaq and the surrounding villagers.

Picking up on Garand's apprehension, the elf turns back to his other companions and says, "I'm beginning to feel uneasy with how little resistance to this deception we've encountered. I would like to think I'd notice if we were being duped, but I can't ignore the reverse possibility. We should resolve this chicanery by Tunuaq and Sonuvat as soon as possible. Lead on, Akulayok." Presumably Akulayok would know that Nalvanaq is the next person to talk to after Sonavut. Onwards! :)

"Go and tell Ameiko, Shalelu and Sandru of what we've learned, but be discreet about it. Tell only them and quietly. Return with any messages they may have. I would recommend that they stay in the caravan, but we will be seeking out leadership in the village aside from Sonuvat and Tunuaq." Turning his attention back to his companions and Manulani flits away, Daeron asks, "Akulayok, who else in the village has authority, aside from Sonuvat and Tunuaq? We should hurry to this person and make our case. Once this is done, I would recommend that we confront Sonuvat lest we leave an unknown danger to hound our steps. I would seek some answers from her as to her purposes." Eyes flashing a flinty blue in anger as he recalls the shell fragments in the pouch, Daeron keeps a wary eye on Tunuaq as he waits. I seem to recall we had a third authority figure, but I can't recall nor can I find his/her name. :(

Perking up suddenly, Daeron studies the writing on the wall excitedly for a moment and then turns to Tunuaq, "I think we can avoid mentioning that to Sonavut. However it would be helpful if we knew more about this writing. I can read it and I have a few theories, but I want to know. Did you write this, or did someone else?" After Tunuaq answers, Daeron translates the poems from Erutaki to Varisian for the benefit of Pavel, Theoden and Garand. Musing aloud after having read the poems, Daeron muses aloud, "'She flies who flies; This queen flies away from you'... this seems like two meanings of flies. One as in literally flying in the sky and the other being to flee. 'She is not of the earth; She is of the sky'... this also seems allegorical to me. Perhaps that this she is symbolized by something that flies? Perplexing." Growing more animated as he mulls over the meaning of the passage, Daeron studies the other poem for a moment before beginning again, "Someone close to this woman seems to have written this, but who is this woman?" Daeron raises an eyebrow at his companions, plainly curious if they know more than he does. Ready to move on when we're done musing. :)

We've sensed no deception from Sonuvat before. Why would she want the dragon angry? And why is he so fearful of her? Still lost in thought, Daeron distractedly nods his agreement but whispers to the rest of the group, "We must warn the rest of the caravan to be cautious. They're unguarded and we may have been watched. They might be in danger. I can send Manulani ahead to warn them when we're out of this cave." Turning to Tunuaq, Daeron eyes the shaman warily and asks, "Will you come with us peacefully? And why does Sonavut frighten you so badly?" Sounds good to me. Is there anything we haven't searched through, DW? If so, Daeron will rifle around in things to make sure we're not missing anything. Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
