Liberty's Edge

Daegan looks at the beast, knowing it must surely realize its fate. Justice or death, what will it be?

Speaking common, hoping the beast will understand, "Surrender or death, now."

Daeg readies an action to take a subdual shot with his sword and gauntlet should the bugbear decide to continue the fight.

Liberty's Edge

Daegan takes a 5' step to the right, lining up behind the closest bugbear, the dazed #3 I think.

"Don't let that one escape, we shall hold the line here." He then swings his sword to draw attention away from Gjoren.

Attack vs Closest Bugbear (1d20+6=10, 1d8+3=7)

[ooc] I don't know if Stone can reach the fleeing bugbear, or if Myvannuii might have to take him down. Hopefully Bron and I can hold these remaining two for a moment or two.

Liberty's Edge

Next opportunity, Daegan, if Bron or Stone has not slain them, will swing for the bugbear closest to himself in the front line pair. Daeg will move as necessary to get the swing, avoiding AoO as possible.

Longsword Swing

"May Iomedae judge between me and thee foul beast"

My swing takes into account the Bless and Divine Favor, but not any flank or situational adjustmentss that may accrue due to movement.

Liberty's Edge

Daegan takes the momentary calm before the storm to seek deep into his faith, and feel for Iomedae's steely embrace. "Grant me strength my Lady, that my blade might bring you honor." Cast Divine Favor on self, recharge time 5 minutes, duration 1 minute.

I'm not sure if the map is correct. When Stone came up beside Daegan, round 1, Daeg cast Magic Weapon on him then took a 5' step to the right. I thought we would then be in a V formation, with Stone upper left, Daeg upper right, Myvannuii at the base. There was room, should Bron have been interested, to have taken the middle position forward of Myv, forming a solid line to protect Myvannuii. I'll go with whatever though, no prob.

Liberty's Edge

As Stone moves up beside him, Daegan reaches out and lays a hand on his shoulder. "May Iomedae strengthen the weapons gifted you," casting Magic Weapon on his unarmed strikes. +1 enchantment to attack and damage, duration 2 minutes Recharge time, 5 minutes.

Daegan then takes a 5 foot step to his right, to better shield Myvannuii. He strikes his sword to shield in issuance of a challenge.

"Stay behind us, my lady, and we shall hold them to allow you the room to practice your arts."

Liberty's Edge

Initiative 15

Daegan, not understanding the creature's speech, but feeling the gist seems less than friendly, prepares himself for what lies ahead.

"My Lady Iomedae, bless your humble servant and his allies in the battle ahead, grant us both grace and speed to serve the cause in your name."

Daegan casts Bless, recharge time 30 minutes, then moves ten feet forward of Myvanuii, shielding her from a charge by the creatures.

Liberty's Edge

Sword drawn, Daegan crouches down near Gjoren. "Do we see any signs of the children?" he asks, scaning the distant travelers. "Could we have somehow gotten our paths crossed with others, and be following the wrong group of ner'do-wells? The safety and well being of the children must come first to defeating random ruffians."

By the way, now that the final rules are out, what do you think about updating your characters? Yes, no, or undecided?

My rulebook arrived only yesterday, but I have been perusing the pdf. I have no problem updating to the PFRPG, but I leave that decision to you and the group.

Liberty's Edge

To those taking some time off, enjoy.

"Master Gjoren, with the coming nightfall, will you be able to follow the tracks well, from dusk through dawn? I possess a torch blessed of my Lady that will burn with her eternal flame, as long as we need it, though I am uncertain this is the avenue we should consider.

Perhaps we should take time and rest, striking out once more just before sunrise. We have pushed pretty well, and should be gaining on the wee ones, but I fear blindly stumbling around in the dark, or bearing torches and marching onwards, may only alert the kidnappers to our pursuit. Iomedae willing, our quickened pace will allow us to intercept and rescue the children before the sun sets once more.

How say my companions, shall we rest or shall we proceed? I bow to the will of my allies, my sword ready to serve as you all decide."

Liberty's Edge

"Agreed. Master Gjoren, please, lead on while the Mistress watches over us."

Liberty's Edge

Hefting his shield and giving his sword a few swings to workout the kinks, Daegan looks around the area and to Gjoren.

"Friend tracker, are these tracks fresh enough to follow? This fellow may have taken the children, who even now rest in the clutches of his insects. Possibly he has the baker, soon to become a meal for his hive queen and their emerging brood. We should hurry as quickly as you lead, while the daylight lasts."

Looking to Flask the guardsman, Daegan nods and addresses him.

"Good trooper, it seems a new entrance to the city has been discovered, or an old one reclaimed. It's finding should come to serve you well in your duty, but perhaps we should cover it for now, lest some unsavory passersby use it for dishonorable purposes. I fear though, such already occured, and from the looks more often so than desired."

We should probably allow Gjoren to lead the way, with Bron and Myvannuii flanking behind as I think they have access to ranged weapons. Stone and I shall follow, with the constable bringing up the rear. If everyone agrees of course. I'm open to suggestions and other ideas.

Liberty's Edge

Hearing the horn call from above, Daegan looks to Stone as they finish searching the cellar area. "Perhaps we should return upstairs, my friend. I see nothing here of the lost children, nor what has happened to the absent baker. Between us, I fear the tunnel makers have done for him, and these ants have cleared away their deed."

Cautiously, Daeg moves up the stairs to the ground floor, if possible remaining unnoticed by the guards. Wouldn't want them to mistake a kidnapping investigation for the looting of a private dwelling. He makes sure his tabard and holy symbol are prominently displayed. Iomedae willing, this will go well for us.

Daegan moves to stand near Myvannuii, trying to look like nothing more than a seasoned adventurer and concerned citizen.

Liberty's Edge

"Perhaps while Bron and Myvannuii check out around the bakery, Stone and I will search further in the cellar area and Gjoren could take a look around the oven tunnel area and stain on the floor. Our lady willing, we should be able to determine what has really been going on in here."

If we all take twenty at roughly the same time, we can limit our overall time spent. Then, depending on what we turn up, we can proceed further. My perception check would be 25 as a result

Liberty's Edge

Once everyone has been healed up, Daegan begins searching around the area, looking for clues regarding the ultimate fate of the baker and former occupants of the bakery. I'll first check the bakery ground floor, then the cellar, and lastly take a look at the oven shaft.

Perception Checks

Liberty's Edge

"Thaank you mistress, for our victory. Now, bless my companion and heal his wounds." Daegan approaches Stone and casts cure light wounds.

Cure Light Wounds Results & Recharge Time

My friends, shall we look around. Perhaps Gjoren and Bron might take the lead.

Liberty's Edge

Here's my next attack and damage roll. Maybe I'll get a hit in before this thing is over.

Attack and damage

Liberty's Edge

Here are my first three possible attacks and damage, if needed. Note, these include the bless but not any situational bonuses that need applied.

Attack and damage rolls

Liberty's Edge

Sorry everyone, currently at Origins soaking up some Pathfinder goodness. Internet is unavailable at the con save for 15 cents/min US charges, but I'll try to check in more tomorrow. I'll post my first few actions, just to keep things moving.

Initiative

Daegan will first cast Bless upon the group.

Recharge Time

When next able, Daegan will move into the bakery to assist fighting the ants, should the party attempt to do so, staying as near the open as possible.

Liberty's Edge

"Well spoken Bron. Do you wish to call coin as to who watches front or back, or shall we let Iomedae decide?"

With that, Daeg takes his small sword amulet from within his gauntlet, setting in on the back of its hand plate. "Iomedae, guide me."

Odd I'll watch the front, even the rear, and we'll let someone else roll on Invisible Castle to decide.

Liberty's Edge

"I agree, we can always make restituion should our actions be for not, but we must see what transpires within, for the sake of the children's well being."

Daeg moves to one side of the bakery door, ready to either smash down of the padlock with his gauntleted hand or assist someone stronger in wrenching the door open.

Liberty's Edge

Accepting Tessem's wooden sword, Daegan takes a moment to secure it beneath the rain guard of his backpack, then reshoulders the load and steps out into the street. He takes a moment to enjoy what little airflow stirs the roadway, what passes for the breeze that blows through the caldera.

While waiting for the others, Daeg takes in the surroundings in the area beyond Mrs. Oakleg's door. He looks over the shops, homes, windows, alleyways and rooftops up and down along the street. He looks to likely avenues the children could have headed, though were most likely actually carried, towards. Are we missing anything? What did Gjoren find hidden in the dust trails amongst Mrs. Oakleg's hearth and home?

Perception Roll

Liberty's Edge

"Thanks be to you, dear woman, for granting us this chance to aid you and yours. We shall not further take of your time."

Nodding to those within sight, Daegan makes a slight gesture of movement towards the door.

"We will be getting to it, whilst the day remains. Mrs. Oakleg, rest assured we will do all in our power to have your dears back shortly. I am certain through the considerable skills of our ertswhile tracker, we will find your missing young ones. Perhaps though, as we go, I might ask that we be allowed to take the lad's wooden sword, as a token of faith that we are truly sent to return he and the others to your home."

Daeg turns to Mrs. Oakleg, the wooden sword in hand, looking to her for permission. If granted, he bows to her, and offers once more his thanks. If denied, he still offers thanks, carefully offering her the well worn plaything, a cherished token reminiscent of Daegan's own childhood's innocence.

"May the light of Iomedae shine upon us all, and guide the children home."

He then turns to take his leave of Mrs. Oakleg.

"Everyone, I am sure we have taken enough of Mrs. Oakleg's time, so, unless one of you, my skillfully accomplished associates, has something further of import, may I suggest we humbly be on our way."

Liberty's Edge

Sensing the others nearing completion of their investigations, Daegan stands and begins to make a few closing remarks for his questioning of the worried, elderly woman.

"Mrs. Oakleg, we want to thank you for your time and patience during these trying moments. We are going to do everything we can to see the children returned to you. That said but I must ask something else. Who else has been asking after the children, seeking their safe return? Have they mentioned where they intend to look for them? We don't want to end up spending time covering the same grounds when seperate searches will more quickly recover the lost ones and bring them home again."

Liberty's Edge

"Ma'm, we are deeply sorry for your troubles, and the loss of the children. By the guiding light of Iomedae, we will see your young back with you as quickly as possible."

Moving her gently out of the doorway, into a more relaxed area like the living room or dining area, Daegan askes her to take a seat, trying to make her comfortable while the others look around. "Truly, I do not wish to linger on this hardship, but we must ask a few questions, if only to hasten their safe return. Can you tell us a little more about the children? Something that would help us get a better understanding of them, something we can use when we find them, which would help them know we are friends meant to help them." I then give her time to reply, nodding and commenting as appropriate, taking in her responses.

Daeg, if possible, then takes a seat nearby, within her comfort zone. "Can you think of anyone that might cause them to be away so long? Perhaps a new friend or someone in the neighborhood that they could be with. Has there been anyone new in the area, or someone strange that you can recall recently?" Again I give time to respond and show her we are serious about wanting to help the children.

Sorry for the delay, had lots of work issues as I'm taking vacation next week for Origins Game Fair.

Liberty's Edge

Noting to himself that it seems odd the bakery is closed this early, Daegan takes in the area. So close to the Oakleg home, and tracks that could lead away from the home, perhaps even those of one of the missing children. Curious, and worth investigating, but so is the Oakleg home.

"Perhaps a quick look around the area, then, if only just to familiarize ourselves with the neighborhood. Mrs. Oakleg's not likely to wander far with the children missing."

Liberty's Edge

Daegan takes a look around the street before Mrs. Oakleg's dwelling.

Perception (1d20+5=20)

Liberty's Edge

To Gjoren: “ Agreed my friend, first round’s on me. Though, advice on a good lodgings ‘twould be appreciated.

To Bron: “True, we go to Mrs. Oakleg’s, and welcome. I am Daegan, and like you newly arrived to this town. These are I believe, and I apologize for the presumption, Masters Stone and Gjoren, and the Lady Myvannuii.”

Daegan notices Bron’s Chelaxian features, slightly similar to those of his father. Daeg took after his Andoren mother, and for just a moment wonders, would he recognize his father’s features in his lost relations? Shaking his head to clear it, he focuses on the task at hand. Iomedae would see the children to safety before her own personal issues, and so should he. Let honor be served and justice be done before the setting of the sun.

"Then let us bargain well fellow sword. Show me to a decent and cleanly lodging hostel here in Cauldron, and once we succeed in returning these wayward youths to their home, my share of the Abadarian's offered coin is yours."

Liberty's Edge

Following along with the others, Daegan calls out a greeting, keeping pace behind Stone, and occasionally glancing around to assure no one, especially the elven lass, are lost in the rush.

"Greetings all, and ‘tis truly a pleasure to be amongst such eager company. I am Daegan, Daeg to my sword mates, and humbly am I at your service. Let's not be unduly harsh with the dour Abadarian, ‘tis not in their nature to freely part with coin or bar. Lest not without fair and beyond return, that is."

Liberty's Edge

As the crowds disperse somewhat, Daegan moves towards the golden priest, head somewhat tilted in a deferential nod, though not in subservience.

“Greetings, Father Iverson, I am Her Sword Knight Esquire Daegan Mueller, late of Absalom. Though newly arrived in Cauldron, might this humble servant of Iomedae offer his services to this worthy cause? As I am unsure of the neighborhood to aid greatly in the search directly, perhaps I might assist in offering encouragement and comfort to the wards of Mrs. Oakleg. Where perchance might I find her boarding home and orphanage?”

Daegan makes little note of the glances of the crowds, confident that his armor and tabard are well presented and presentable. He does make note of others the crowd likewise similarly judges. Comrades in a new found sea perhaps, he gives each a friendly nod as glances meet.

Chapter 1: DRAKTHAR'S WAY

"Missing kids?

Having only arrived in Cauldron this morning, Daeg finds himself roaming the streets, taking in the differences from his former home in Absalom, the buildings and wharves of his landing in Eleder, and the few way points his trade caravan passed on its journey to Cauldron. Not what he expected, Daeg still finds the commonality of every place he's visited. People are people, and the all seem to need a place to meet. With that he wanders towards the market area. At one time, he thinks, his father had family here. Perhaps they are still here, and know something about his father, his heritage, his past.

Iomedae, is this why I am here, Am I here to learn of my past, to find my family. Am I to bring honor and justice to their lives, such as what my father lost for my mother and myself.

It is then that he hears, the town crier, and the voices of the crowds.
No, time enough for personal matters later. There is action required, and honor demands the worthy act. Taking out a small silver sword charm, Daegan places atop the back of his gauntleted hand, whispering a small prayer to Iomedae. The sword shines faintly in the sunlight. "Guide my blade, my lady." With the puff of breath, the tiny blade turns in a lazy circle, ending pointing in the direction of the Golden Vault. "Thy will be done."

Daeg heads in the direction of the Golden Vault, and begins again the journey Iomedae has placed before him.

Honor and justice prevailing my fair lady, I shall temper our party's passions with the steel and light of Iomedae's wisdom.

I have updated my sheet. I removed the Weapon Focus, darn my 3.5 war domain mentality, adjusted the scroll spells list, and posted my default spell list. Sorry for the errors. I'll update the background a little later today.

I do have a question about the recharge magic option. I assume the domain spells do not recharge but remain single use per day abilities. However, will 0 level spells switch from PF RPG at wills to the recharge mode, 1d6+1 rounds to recharge? It shouldn't have much effect on game play, but I just wanted to be sure.
