About \\ DM //For your consideration, Professor Grigori Bly, Android investigator (Skilled). Short backstory:
Professor Grigori Bly, lecturer and researcher at Lepidstat University (Ustalav) has spent the last 20 years studying himself, comparing his android body and mind to that of humans and various mammals. However, there is only so much that can be learned from studying a single specimen. Thus, to answer questions such as whether or not he has a soul, and whether or not Shelyn, the goddess he follows, will one day welcome him into her realm (once he dies), Professor Bly sets out for Numeria to discover more of his origins and learn about his kind. Well… that was short, but showed the two most important characteristic of my character: he is a scholar and a follower of Shelyn. To know how android, scientist and Shelyn faithful can cohabit, see the longer backstory: Link

Strategy:
To be written. Appearance:
The man, Professor Grigori Bly, looks average at first glance: normal high and built, clean but not overly flamboyant clothes (yet obviously from a far away land) except for a colourful symbol of Shelyn buttoned onto his scarf. However, upon closer look, one will notice two strange elements, a few strands of his well combed haired are dyed after each colors of the rainbow, and his face appears fully unmarked by life experiences of emotions. With luck, a really careful observer will notice a third element, a strange pulsating light seems to come from underneath the strip of cloth hiding his right eye and forehead. Less strange but still remarkable is the fact that the men looks Kellid, yet wears clothes which come from Ustalave, a land mostly inhabited by Varisians. These clothes consist of a whice shirt covered by a long gray waistcoat itself covered with a knee length overcoat, unbutonned below the waist, and gray pants as well as knee high letter boots. The whole is completed by a black bonnet and a shoulder length cloak. When prepared for battle, Professor Bly eschews his overcoat for a leather breastplate and rolls up his shirt’s sleeves.
Background:
Summary: On how an Android was brought to Ustalav, became a professor at the University and a believer of Shelyn and yet stayed emotionless. Grigori woke up from slumbering in a strange metal pod by an archeologist seeking to discover and understand the strange “technology” from Numeria. The man, Hubert Bly, a renowned professor from Lepidstat University in Ustalav, brough back the newly awakened android from his expedition. In Ustalav, Bly spend hours conversing with Grigori, hoping that he would hold secrets on how to use or repair the numerous artifacts that he had brought back from the country. However, Grigori knew nothing of this technology. Yet, as he looked at the many relics with the professor and tried discovering their use, the android grew more and more interested in science. After months of discouraging trials, Grigori suggested a new way of inquiry, to study himself and compare his anatomy to that of humans. Interested in knowing more about himself, the android dispassionately drew samples of his own blood, studied how quickly he healed from broken bones or other wounds and a myriad of other bodily processes. Together with the processor, he wrote treaties of comparative anatomy. These experiments took years to perform, and by the time they were over, Grigori had taken his own place amongst the professors of Lepidstat University, teaching chemistry (and alchemy), science and the mysterious “science” of androids and Numeria. During these long years, Grigori discovered a second interest: religion. He first became interested in the subject when Bly started a romance (and later married) a Taldan priestess of Shelyn, Serena. Emotionless and unable to understand either love or beauty, the android became interested and tried to know more. As he spent time studying religion, he became more and more obsessed with the soul as well as the rewards of the afterlife. Thinking he might possibly one day be allowed to go into the realm of a god or goddess, and knowing that failing this deity might close this chance, he decided to follow a faith without fail. He chose Shelyn, for he thought love and beauty were the most mysterious emotions and that he might one day be able to feel them once he reached her realm. To fulfill the roles of a believer of Shelyn, Grigori started drawing (as an art form) and decided to learn as much as possible about love and couples to be able to advise people (something he is still not really good at). This shortcoming has forced him to show love to others in different ways such as volunteering as a physician to many poor families. As for the art side, with time, Grigori developed contraptions (Spirograph) which allowed him to make drawing which people though were beautiful. As the years passed, Grigori and Bly found less and less topics to research. This, coupled with the taking over of the University by a group of researches opposed to them, seriously endangered their positions. Thus, one day, hoping to find materials for more research and to secure his mentor’s position, Grigori decided to prepare an expedition for Numeria. Yet, since he and Bly were in disfavour at the University’s board, no funds were given. Also, seeing has Bly had grown old since his first expedition, Grigori took it upon himself to carry this new expedition alone. It is once he reached Numeria that Grigori heard about the rumors of Torch. Seeing his chance, he went looking for the mysterious ruins, hoping to find some answers to his questions and re-establish his researches. General personality/attitude:
Grigori’s actions are dictated by two general reasons: 1) the research on Androids, their anatomy and whether or not they have a soul, 2) following the precepts of Shelyn in order to one day understand beauty and love (in the afterlife). Although possessing the skills to reach his first goal, Grigori struggles with the second. For one, he is cold and emotionless. In order to get closer to people, Grigori purposely fakes appropriate emotions, changing the tone of his voice when he deems it necessary (such putting a sense of urgency in his voice when a danger is about). Yet, bluffing is not his greatest strength. Thus, Grigori is a methological person, cold, calculating and pragmatic. However, his faith in Shelyn and his obedience of the code of conduct from her churches prevents him from taking easy shortcuts that may hurt people, keeping him from evil or aloofness. It also forces him to attend to other peoples need and try to The android also somewhat suffer from pride, as he considers his mental capacities above those of humans. However, being proven wrong does not render him jealous, but usually teaches him that even though he thinks more clearly than many humans, they still possess skills that he does not. And, well, obviously for a scientist, he is inhabited by a natural curiosity and will to understand the world.
Foreseen advancement:
Either construct technological weapons or objects to boost himself (and the others) in the long run (like the gun that allows to inject poisons at a distance (the only technology I read about)), or go in the “aid another/teamwork feat” route, or something else. I plan on evolving the character as the campaign advances. __________________________________________________________ DETAILED INFORMATION __________________________________________________________ Equipment:

Professor Bly would argue that he does not possess any virtue, or vice for that matter, for these are qualities that are born out of emotions. However, he would say that he surpasses most, if not all people, in his ability to think clearly without being impeded by emotions. Flaw:
As for is greatest flaw, Grigori would say that it is his inhumanity which prevents him from enjoying art or love, and thus to fully fulfill his obligations has a follower of Shelyn. |
