Trying to buy a bunch of the discounted Planet Stories.

First the Add to Cart button doesn't work right. Sometimes it adds, sometimes it hangs endlessly. If I refresh, nothing happens. If I hit back, it un-sorts everything I'm halfway through buying. Then I have to re-sort. Then Add to Cart. Then Add to Cart. Then go back, because it didn't work. Then re-sort. Then find what I was trying to add again. Over and over...

Then, after painstakingly sludging through all that, I get ready to check out. System insists I sign in, which I do.
Which completely empties my cart of all 20 items, and no amount of hunting, back buttoning, or refreshing can get them back.

REALLY annoying.

Well, I've got to figure the answer lies in the appearance of the Games Quarterly back issue ad.

Does this mean that the two have merged? Or that one is dead and Paizo is publishing the 'survivor'?

The spring Concentric was excellent. It's too bad it was kind of sparsely attended - they had plenty of great events going.

Met Todd Breitenstein (Twilight Creations) who was running a Mega-Zombies game with $100+ in give-aways.

Won a copy of Tutankhamen (plenty of other games had prizes, too).

Favorite new discoveries were both from Mayfair.
Pompeii (not yet available in US) - move people in while it's considered a prime place to live, then help them flee when the lava starts to flow.
Entdecker - a tile/path + bidding game of sailing exploration.

I wasn't told to keep it quiet, so here's your confirmation.

:(

#1) Hot Day in L'Trell (around issue 45-50 maybe)
by Ted James Thomas Whim Bim Lim Tim P'tang P'tang Zuvich (Very Silly party)

I designed an entire campaign/world around L'Trell.

CGC is in Bloomingdale (not Bloomington, which I used to always mix up when I was young), btw.

Also for Chicago-areaers - the Concentric folks have returned with two major local conventions, one coming up in early October.

Well, you'd want to maximize the variety and replayability -

I'd quickly take
Axis & Allies
RoboRally
Hoity Toity (aka By Hook or By Crook)
Scrabble

The fifth would be lot harder. Blood Bowl, Bridges of Shangi-La, Titan (hey, an apocalypse leaves you with a lot of time on your hands, you know), and maybe an Icehouse set all come to mind. But I think I might go for an old-fashioned deck of cards w/poker chips.

> Try to convert people.

> Try leaving notices at the nearest gamestore(s) or using Internet player locators.

> If you have cheap long distance and conference call capability, play that way.

> There are Internet interfaces designed for on-line real-time D&D gaming. Only vaguely familiar with them, but I'm sure others here know more.

You don't need that many people. I think a DM + 2, 3 players tops is optimal.

Here's what I saw listed to go up:

In some cases I'm not sure if it's the item or the original art for the item that's going up. Have to wait and see, I guess.

Don't think so (and no one email the sister asking please - I don't think they're currently in her possession and I know she knows nothing about D&D).

They will be longer (7-10 day) auctions, though, I believe.
And I might get a list of what and where they were originally published before then.

Keeping it brief:

Early AD&D artist David Sutherland is terminally ill and auctioning off many prints and *originals* (via a third party - no, not me).

Sutherland's most recognizable work is the 1st ed DMG cover, but his art has appeared everywhere in the early years of D&D, Dragon included, of course.

Well-wishes and appreciation for his art can be sent to him via his sister at Trudyjean@aol.com

The art is scheduled to start going up on eBay approximately Sept 12.

Two of Northern IL's best local cons are both coming up in November.
Rock-Con (Rockford) is 11/5-7 and Chicagoland Gamers CONclave is 11/26-28.
Rock-Con is pretty well known, while CGC is a bit of a 'secret'.
I've been to both before and probably will hit both again this year.
I'm tentatively looking at running a LARP and the long, long OOP TSR mini-game, They've Invaded Pleasantville at CGC.

I swung by twice to introduce myself, but didn't have any luck - didn't see you or Jenny - and worst of all - didn't get to catch the cheerleaders, either!

Who was there? What'd you do?

I'm not going to write 'real' reviews :)
but the commercial board+card I got to try were:

SENATOR - Roman senators bid on various 'agenda' tiles. Try to collect the most 'non-conflicting' agendas. A bit complicated (esp. for early Sun morning), but pretty good.
NEW ENGLAND - Best of the bunch. Pilgrims try to farm land. Tile/board strategy with great bidding/selection mechanics.
CITADELS - Build a medieval city. Also based on bidding/selection mechanics. 2nd best.
ALL WOUND UP - Only appealing to kids. Wind-up zombie figures negotiate their way through a cemetery.

Free Plug: The designer said he's still tweaking and talking with publishers, so it's not commercially available yet - but LAB RATS was a solid offering. Players play tiles and special cards to try get their rats out the maze first.
