Ok, it took 4 damage spells to do what one SoD/SoS/etc could do. Even if he had that high save type resistance, statistically one would have worked. Not sure what you're trying to prove with this. I mean, I could parade a character around doing 1k or so with blasting magic. I don't consider that representative of the norm.

Defense.

The idea of focusing on defense at the expense of offense is you're really hard to kill (if it worked right) but don't really do much to kill the enemy. Ergo, they ignore you, kill everyone else, then apply the can opener at their leisure. What you're describing is more like high defense and at least decent offense which is not quite the same thing.
