Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform.

Vorsirion remains on his feet as the odd enemy's tentacles fail to strike him this time. Using the brief respite, he activates a ward to protect himself from further damage. He touches the black onyx gem in the amulet at his neck, and for a moment his visage changes.

A female elf with blood dripping from her mouth appears and swings the elven blade.

Activating Mind Barrier as a swift action (can absorb 8 dmg until start of my next turn), then 5' step, then attack.

+1 elven curve blade: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 181d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Mind Barrier (Sp)::
As a swift action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to create a shield of mental energy around you that protects you from harm. The shield prevents a total of 2 points of damage per occultist level you possess.It lasts until the start of your next turn or until exhausted. For example, if you are 5th level, the mind barrier protects you from 10 points of damage; if you are hit by an attack that would deal 12 points of damage, the mind barrier is exhausted and you take 2 points of damage. You can activate this ability as an immediate action, but doing so costs 2 points of mental focus instead of 1.

But as the melee erupts, Vorsirion is gone for a moment, and in his place is a female elf, her maw open to reveal large fangs and blood trailing down her chin. She moves with incredible speed toward the battle.

Casting shield as standard action, swift action to activate Sudden Speed, then move action to reach the battle (60 ft. movement this round).

Sudden Speed:
Sudden Speed (Sp): As a swift action, you can expend 1 point of mental focus to grant yourself a burst of speed. This increases your land speed by 30 feet for 1 minute. This ability does not stack with itself.
