Since Rapid Shot is a full attack, she can't use it if she has to move closer to see the dragon. Unless we all moved up a few rounds ago and the dragon just appeared when it popped out to take a bite at Nezos, in which case she could take a second shot.

Cora follows the others, hanging back but ready to take a shot as soon as she can see the dragon.

Cora gestured at Nezos. "Cast it on him, he has the best chance of hurting the dragon up close."

I don't think any of these PCs would go chasing after the dragon, then, to be honest. None of us can fly and none of us can hope to keep up on the ground. Even if Nezos could move fast enough he wouldn't be able to hit the dragon from the ground.

What do you think, Machi-e?

DM, is there a visible hoard? Maybe if we start messing with its stuff it will come back to smite the thieves.

I don't think any of us can keep up on foot with a flying anything, much less an adult dragon. Can Cora see the entrance to that southern passageway?

Can I ready an attack action for the dragon becoming visible again?

"Call out when you spot it!" Cora scanned the cavern for the dragon, ready to fire off another deadly arrow.

Gallius moves up, not threatening the dragon and trusting his god's blessing to keep the monster from attacking him. Moves up to keep close to Nezos but doesn't attack, under Sanctuary.

Let's do it! Would Cora hanging back mess up the bluff? She doesn't want to get close but would stay with the group if it risks messing up Machi-e's bluff.

How close did Nezos get? Close enough to get to melee with a charge?

Machi-e, any suggestions for how to respond? I guess we could just not respond and dive straight into fighting. Not sure when to use the namedrop thing- right before the first strike or hold it for if somebody goes down or needs help?

If you can spare Invisibility on Machi-e, he can use Touch of Gracelessness. He'll cast Protection From Energy (Acid) on himself and then True Strike on himself. He can also cast Summon Monster II and have an Earth Elemental to flank with Nezos.

Sure, switch Nezos's Weapon of Awe for Invisibility for Machi-e. She's out of spells for today after this prep.

If not:
Gallius: Casts Communal Resist Energy, Protection from Energy on Nezos (Acid), Bless, Prayer. Drink Sanctuary potion, give Sanctuary and Enlarge Person potion to Nezos. 5 rounds of casting/drinking.
Nezos drinks Sanctuary and Enlarge Person potions. 2 rounds.
Cora casts: Weapon of Awe on self and Nezos (1 2nd level spell left for day), Invisibility on Nezos (2nd level spells exhausted), Divine Favor on self (1 1st lvl spell left), Wrath on self (1st lvl spells exhausted). 5 rounds of casting.

Plan is to have Nezos move to melee Invisible and under Sanctuary, Machi-e move to close range to cast combat spells, Gallius move up to keep Nezos and Machi-e within healing channel range while not attacking, and Cora stand on the ledge and shoot her bow.

Totally forgot about that; I only remembered the Bane arrows. Even that only does 50hp on a hit, though, right? So it's kind of misnamed. ;)

Cora nods to the druid and Machi-e. "Alright, Gallius. Can you protect us from acid? Then we just need to worry about claws and teeth." She gestures around the northern end of the cave. "Nezos, I think you can get to the nest by going down that tunnel to the north. And I don't think it has line of sight if we're careful about how we chart out a path. But if it gets up into the air, I don't know what we're going to do. I have some arrows enchanted to hurt dragons but not enough to kill one on their own."

Cora shrugs. "It's green, that's all I could see from the stairs."

Cora quietly retreats to where Machi-e and the others are waiting and describes the room in detail. "It's not asleep," she says quietly, [b][smaller]"so once we all go in together it's probably going to see us. What do you think?"[b][smaller]

The room's big enough for it to fly around in and we probably can't sneak up that passage leading to the nest without getting spotted. What kind of range do you have on your spells, Machi-e? At least Medium?

Or can we, DM? I drew a line from the dragon on the map to the steps and it looks like there's 1 square where the dragon's LOS is blocked if we try to scoot around the top of the map. There's about half a square that it shouldn't be able to see if we come down the northernmost set of steps.

Could we get some measurements, please, DM? It looks like Cora's about 26 squares/130 feet from the sleeping dragon. How far down from the ledge Cora is standing on is the grass/floor? How high is the ceiling? How high are the stairs we're standing on/could the dragon get through the stairs?

Cora freezes in place, moving nothing but her head as she carefully looks around the vast room.

Cora slinks back to Machi-e and the others to tell them what she found. She then gestures to the east. "Let me go check this other way and we can figure out which way to go once I get back."

Cora moves back to Machi-e and the others and describes what she saw. "I'm going to check up the north tunnel and come back."

"Alright, if we want to trap it in its lair we'd better move fast. Stay behind me." Cora moves down the tunnel as quietly as she can.

Cora nods at the window. "Alright, let's take a break and you can prepare some destructive spells, Machi-e."

Didn't you say Nezos would auto-succeed with an Aid Another from Machi-E? Couldn't we call that 17 a successful AA attempt and let Nezos succeed instead of whatever partial success Machi-e got?

Cora has lots of Knowledges but no Spellcraft, unfortunately.

Cora grimaces as the otherworldly monster dissolves into goo. "We need to figure out how to close this Window. But if the dragon will know as soon as we do, should we rest and recover our strength? That druid made it sound like we'd have to fight the dragon as soon as we cut off the link to the Dark Tapestry."

Gritting her teeth against the doubt churning in her gut, Cora forces her fear into anger and channels that anger into her attack as she stands her ground and fires off a rapid pair of arrows at the terrible tree-thing.

"Now that is impressive," Cora says as she regards the floating diamond made of night sky. Pointing at the tracks in the dust she says "Dragon has been here, recently."

"Anyone have eyes on a horror from out of time and space?"

Cora shrugs. "That's always my plan. What else do you suggest we do?" she asks as she casts blessings on herself and the group.

Would the Amulet apply to Cora's gauntlets? If not we'll probably just call it loot to sell.

Cora nods at Machi-e. "That would've been nice, yeah. That said, he was tough. If he didn't think he was strong enough to kill whatever it is, we definitely need to prepare before we face it."

I don't want to suggest another rest right after 1 encounter but... we might want to rest before we fight the thing this mini-boss was gatekeeping.

How are we on resources/spell slots?

Seeing Nezos (nearly?) go down, Cora redoubles her efforts and pumps out as many arrows as she can.
