The third son of the barrel maker in a small town near the northern edge of the Palatinates, Smiley has been desiring something more ever since the day he came upon Professor Lorrimor being attacked by a couple of wild dogs. Early on it was obvious he had no talent for coopering, but he was unnaturally strong, and it was thought this might serve him well as a blacksmith, so he was apprenticed. Turned out he was an indifferent blacksmith too. He did love the woods and nature, and as often as he could get away with, he would roam around with various hunters and trappers, learning whatever they would teach.
He got his nickname because from a very young age, he always seemed to be smiling and in a good mood. Very even tempered, he was always cheerful until the day some of the older boys were picking on a stray puppy and he asked them to stop. When they wouldn't, he went berserk and beat the 6 older boys into unconsciousness.
Though none too pleased with Smiley's blacksmithing abilities, his master immediately recognized what had happened and had a lot of sympathy, his own mother having been but one generation removed from the untamed wilds and a berserker herself. He forced the truth out of the other boys and taught Smiley to channel his rage.
Still happy and cheerful, Smiley has taken his master's lessons to heart and learned to invoke his rage at will. He has often thought about his long conversations with the Professor, and although saddened at his death, is anxious to see more of the world.
appearance:
Standing about 5'6", Smiley bears a striking resemblance to an oversize dwarf. With mud brown hair and eyes, he is rather unremarkable except for his build. When standing still he looks like he would be very slow and lumbering, like a brick wall trying to move. But when he actually does move he is surprisingly quick and graceful.
Rage 5 rounds/day: +4 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves, a –2 penalty to Armor Class. A barbarian can end rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage.

The third son of the town's barrel maker, Smiley was born and raised in Kassen and has never been too far away from town. Early on it was obvious he had no talent for coopering, but he was unnaturally strong, and it was thought this might serve him well as a blacksmith, so he was apprenticed to Braggar. Turned out he was an indifferent blacksmith too. He did love the woods and nature, and as often as he could (and as often as she would let him), he would roam around with Arnama learning whatever she could teach.
