"This is a thread about why you like Pathfinder. Not a why I dislike 4E. If you feel the need to vent about 4E start another thread. I am tired of the so called edition wars and do not want it in this thread." I wasn't venting. I was explaining my reasoning for finding PF alluring. If i was venting about 4E i would of went way beyond "TOTALLY BORING", and pointed out the numerous things that make it boring for me to play. Instead I just left the reader with the impression that 4E wasn't for me and that I liked 3.0/5E and PF built off of this. To me this looks exciting. I honestly can't wait to buy the books. In other threads they say Nov. timeframe. That ranger and rogue look a bit fun to play, or maybe even a pally for once. Who knows. Can't wait to dive into the books.
Again I think that most people that are all bent over loosing the heavy armor issue, are people that are not looking at this properly. As I stated in a previous post, clerics should of never had heavy armor to begin with. They are not an up-in-your-face battle-melee-tank. Twas not the intention of the class. They are a supporting character. Their job is to keep the party alive thru out the engagement, not be a tank or defensive off tank. Yes they have offensive magical capabilities, but their primary role is not charge into a nest of orcs yelling "my god is superior to your evil!" no that is the pally's job. With all the extra things you get ie: full spell caster, area of magical domains etc and all the other new changes. Heavy armor is just not needed. It is unballancing. I say thank god they got rid of it. After all they are spell casters so why shouldn't they have the same restrictions.
Yes I too am military 16 1/2 yrs Army...HOOAH!!! I understand the daunting task of starting out as a DM/GM. It is a bit of an undertaking. All those worries... will the players like the world that they are imersed in... will the amount of role playing and combat be to their liking... Will my adjudications make good sense and how will they be taken by the players... etc. I have always taken my dice and core rule bookes on every deployment I have ever been on... and trust me after 16 yrs they have been numerous. I admire anyone that takes up the mantle of DM/GM. It's the hardest but most rewarding part of RPG's.
Honestly I have yet to play PF. (Waiting to buy the books $$) But I like this change. IMHO Clerics should never of had heavy armor to begin with. They are not a tank, they ARE a supporting character. Buffs and debuffs and healing. That is their primary role. I mean think about it, Clerics are field medics, trained in combat but primary role is to keep his comrades alive in the fight. Just because they get their first aid bag from their god dosen't make then wariors for god. That's the Palidins primary job. He's the tank for god. Seems to me people are getting hell bent over an awesome change that was long overdue. If your a Cleric and doing the tanking, then who is doing the healing? The de/buffing? Who is keeping the party alive? It seems to me from reading the posts, that people are complaining about the heavy armor cause they want to be the uber tank etc son on and so forth. Been said before. Hopefully this change makes people role play the class correctly. If it wasn't for them having to be in the thick of things to do their job, honestly i would say they should get only light armor like all the rest of the spell casting world. If the ranger can survive in melee with med armor the cleric can too. My opnion
I totally agree with you Nathan. All my campaigns are openended. There is a loose story and plot for adventure but I like it when the party writes the majority of the story, ie: their choices on where they will go and what they will do. With my world being so rich (and I know the intracencies because I wrote it) it is easy for me to adlib with their choices or ad-hoc the rest of the session to fit the party's playing style. I think it makes it more fun for all involved. Not to mention easier for me to DM/GM a session.
This is the question I have... Do you play a quest/campaign from purchased/downloaded mods or from a self made relm? I for one have never liked purchased/downloaded mods. I have always played in the relm that i made 25 yrs ago. The world has growned and flurished in this time, tolal histories of past campaigns have set the stage for new ones. It is now a living world full of political intregue from several kingdoms to plenty of explorable landscape, or relic serching or snatch and grabs etc. I even have the back history of the continent that spans 18k yrs. I find plenty of "stuff" to do. But back to my original question. I am curious to see if most people play off of purchased/downloaded mods or from relms they make themselves like i did. Just curious.
Although I have not played PF as of yet, I have played every D&D edition made. My favorite so far has been 3.0/5E. It wasn't perfect but was plenty of fun. When I herd 4E was comming out i looked for it. I bought it and i despise it. In 2 words... TOTAL BOREDOM!!! I kick myself in the a$$ every day for wasting 100 bucks. So I immediately went back to 3.0/5E. Ovcourse I am not completly satisfied with it. Then I stumbled along this site. I figured i would take a look. I have read alot of the changes in PF. I was like WOW! NO KIDDING. I HAVE BEEN HOUSE RULLING THOSE CHANGES FOR YEARS, and still not being completely satisfied. So my next 2 books I will buy is the Core Rule Book and The Beastiary. This looks to be the system i have been waiting for. Hats of to Paizo for making it. |
