Backstory:

Cathetel Tivon is a scientist, a researcher. As an alchemist, Cathetel was able to develop his own type of mutagen, a magical formula that allowed him to increase his physical abilities at the expense of his mental facilities. While the formula worked as intended, Cathetel, ever the practical student, quickly realised that such a formula failed to benefit himself as much as it would benefit, say, a warrior. Furthermore, Cathetel believed he could take things one step further, creating formula that he could give to soldiers that they could use themselves, enhancing the abilities. Cathetel believed alchemy as a branch of “manufactured” magic, and his research supported the idea that if magical extracts could be handed out to people free of charge, well, then everyone could be “magical” rather than the lucky few with powerful arcane or divine abilities.
While the idea of advancing a warrior beyond what was humanly possible formed the core of Cathetel’s research, Cathetel also looked at the value of storing magic. It was no small secret, that scrolls, wands, staffs, magical rods and potions were all capable of storing some magical abilities, but Cathetel wondered if you could actually store creatures into little glass orbs, which could then be smashed by anyone for the creation of a quick, cheap, risk free and portable army. With his research at such an early stage, currently these challenges are beyond him, but Cathetel is determined to succeed.
Despite all of this, Cathetel is not stupid. He is fully aware that his research could be used for darker purposes, it would not be difficult, for instance, for an invading force to abuse a mutagen for his troops to gain temporary superiority, or for someone to quickly take an entire city by surprise with portable summoned creatures. Cathetel reasons that such abilities are largely already within reach of most spellcasters, and besides, if he doesn’t make the required breakthrough, then someone else will eventually anyway. Cathetel is largely driven by ambition, and the desire to be recognised as one of the great researchers and inventors, a desire that chafes under the responsibility to manage the controversial nature of his research.
To this end Cathetel joined the Pathfinder Society. On a practical level, he would gain access to important magical texts, and if he came across some rare tome or item, well, there would be an excellent chance to study it. In addition to this, Cathetel is able to carry out field testing on volunteers, judge any side effects (if any), while making note of the trustworthy pathfinders that he could trust with his research. Strictly speaking, Cathetel would prefer to delay the possibility of someone abusing his research (even if he believes it’s a foregone conclusion), and is determined to find loyal and trustworthy pathfinders to defend against this possibility.
As far as appearance and personality goes, Cathetel is a slim, slightly bookish human male with short brown hair and blue eyes, that can often be found wearing a large greatcoat, usually with a book in one hand, and sleeves rolled up. Serious and blunt, Cathetel can nevertheless be one of the quickest pathfinders to crack a smile when the occasion suits it, and, surprisingly perhaps, is very loyal. While the nature of his research is fairly controversial, at its heart Cathetel believes that its primary purpose can be used to help people in combat zones, imagine how crusaders against the forces of demonkind could fare with his completed research, and so on, thus, he is generally an eager pathfinder, quick to lend a hand to those that need it.
