About Castrian Nevarno

Description
A tall, lean man wearing a flowing green cloak over tan robes. The cloak is decorated with scaly, serpentine patterns, and bears a seven-pointed Sihedron star over the left shoulder. Castrian’s hair and eyes are black, and he sports a small goatee and moustache, lending him a villainous aspect.

Background
Castrian is the youngest scion of the Nevarno family, a noble house of ancient lineage based in Korvosa. Though they can trace their bloodline back millennia, the Nevarnos have always been small in number. A hundred years ago, in an effort to avoid Chelish oppression, they moved to an estate near the town of Palin’s Cove, where their ramshackle manor still stands.
Castrian grew up surrounded by the relics of his family’s history, but particularly favored the family library, an impressive collection of manuscripts, librams, tomes and fragments dating back to antiquity. It was this collection that brought him to the attention of the Lissalan cultists Ilan Kosta and his lover, Milena Talich. When Ilan heard of the Nevarno family’s eclectic collection of tomes, he ensured that Milena “recruited” him via domination. Realizing that a day-walking agent would be a valuable resource, Castrian was not turned into a vampire, but instead remained as a controlled asset for the local cult, the Feasters of the Heart.
Ilan was impressed with Castrian’s innate intellect, and took him on as a sort of de facto apprentice, teaching him of Lissalan lore—as he understood it, at least.

However, Castrian’s own research into the Nevarno library turned up an old copy of the Lissalan holy text, Devotion to the Seven Forms. This particular manuscript, written on human skin in Azlanti, derived from a source that predated the version Ilan studied and prayed from, which had a much greater focus on the powers of conjuration magic and the benefits of physical punishment and sloth. Castrian came to the realization as he continued his studies that the modern incarnation of the Lissalan faith was but a corrupt shadow of its formal glory during the time of the Azlanti empire, before it was corrupted by Thassilonian sin-lords.

Because of this realization, when a group of Pathfinders arrived in town and cleansed it of the vampiric cult, Castrian came forward, identifying himself as a formerly dominated member and volunteering his services to assist the Society with translating texts and understanding the Lissalans as they exist today. He traveled to Absalom, and in the course of subsequent assistance became a member of the Society himself.

Goals
Castrian’s tutelage under Ilan has led him to the study of conjuration magic as it was done in Thassilonian times, abandoning entirely the schools of evocation and illusion to focus more exclusively on summoning. He hopes to continue this learning, using Pathfinder Society missions to further his real-world expertise of the subject, and to grant him the power and influence to become a Seeker, which in turn will allow him greater access to the hidden and forbidden libraries sheltered in the Grand Lodge. He joined the Dark Archive faction when it was founded for similar reasons.
With his deeper understanding of the Lissalan faith, Castrian also hopes to demystify the religion, and encourage those interested to study the core principles of the faith before it was tainted by Thassilonian influence.

Personality
Castrian is meticulous and organized, both with his personal appearance and in his relations with others. He appreciates a clear command structure and a regimented daily plan. He does not require that he lead, but expects anyone who is appointed to lead be obeyed.
