Carroun was found in the wild by a wandering Half-Elf. The Half-Elf took him in and raised him as her own son.
As a teenager, Carroun's Garuda heritage began to manifest itself. He was sometimes picked on for the feathers he began to grow. One evening he ran into the woods to escape from a gang of other kids that were tormenting him. He escaped the kids, but was captured by cultists. They subjected him to a ritual. Whatever the intended purpose of the ritual was, it only seemed to plant in him a burning hatred of demons. He escaped from the cultists and returned home.
After returning home, the nearby monks taught him to center himself, pouring everything into the flame burning inside himself. From them he learned how to study lore and soak up information. He even learned how to teach and give advice to the younger monks as time passed.
As he began to grow restless at the monastery, he sought the martial training of an old, retiring Paladin Crusader. In the course of his training, the Paladin reinforced the things his adoptive mother had told him about goodness, redemption, and faith.
When his training was sufficiently complete, he set out for Kenabres, the fire of demon-hatred burning in him hotter than ever.
