The Carnivorous Balloon appears, most of the time, as a completely unassuming red helium balloon. It has three colored ribbons tied to the bottom of it (two silver, one gold), and a small glittery silver bow attached near the point where the ribbons are tied to the balloon.
Sometimes, those looking at the balloon will see a crude face painted on it, as if in black charcoal. Anyone around the balloon for long enough, will realize it has five different expressions that can appear painted on its side... from a simple happy face, one more neutral, a frowny face, and an angry face. The last face, is a variation of the angry face, though complete with fangs. No one has ever seen the faces move. They appear to be just what they are, drawn on the side... but sometimes when you look away, and look back again... or when you blink... the face has, somewhat disturbingly, changed... or gone away entirely.
The balloon is actually an elemental, from the plane of air, the ribbons dangling below it, actually tentacle-like appendages, prehensile enough for it to manipulate objects, when needed. Two of them are even sharp enough, along the edges, to cut flesh.
