Liberty's Edge

Ahoy,

While I am not up to date on my faerun (sp?), I do remember that there are quite a few good guys, and guys who don't like evil kicking things around (Harpers, Purple Dragon knights, order of the radiant heart ). I only state this because you mentioned sacking of temple of Torm ( if this is not correct, ignore my specifics). If you roleplay the "I need help, because half fiends are invading and they want to eat your babies" concept, you can counter all your foes mooks or templates with an army of paladins or other do-gooders (this might require helping certain groups for favors or some roleplay, either way it would be awesome).

If getting a bunch of NPC help is not with your (or your DM's) cup of tea, you could copy the getting a template concept with half-celestial version by praying/serving a being of the light. Or, maybe the brass dragons could infuse you with some half Brass butt kicking...

If all the gathering and blessings don't work, you could make them go on the offensive. Picking a battle site that has "good" aligned traits (consecration and like) and some other nasty traps might even out the fight.

Or if all else fails, you target the biggest jerk with litany of righteousness, then the other paladin smites that target; then you laugh when the smiting paladin does x2 damage and puts that target so far under it's con score you need to make a new math theory to compute it. Seriously, two paladins with the right spells and smites will make someone suffer, bad.

In PFS, I have a similar character concept, except he is a cleric of the goddess of illusion, so he lies about absolutely everything. Mechanically if you want to lie all the time, complete once game and get yourself a stone mask (+10 to lying, +5 to feint, -5 to try to use bluff for a secret message, 500gp). Now, I lie all the time with this fellow and it passes for most of the craziest options possible, I became a slaver, a Lion Blade, a Cheliaxian aristocrat, a barbarian story teller, and even flirted with an Oytug (kinda...). While people state that this isn't "magic" it can get pretty close with the craziness of the rolls and how the DM reacts.

I usally use the bluff skill during introductions to introduce myself as another player's character, trying to one up their introduction (rp wise, I pick the person with the most interesting introduction, and playfully poke at it) you CAN however take a level of bard and get the pagent of the peacock ( a social skill miracle, but even the most liberal of people would find it cheese). There is also a trait (I forget the name/location)that allows a bluff skill to do something crazy (like say a rock is solid gold).

Anyway, I find it that bluff is best used if you have a strong personality and don't step on others toes. When you are crazy and fun with your lies, the whole table has a blast, and the skill lets you do what it might not allow =)

Ahoy!

Now, this isn't a rant to state 'Gimme goblin boon! Plz!" but a comment on fairness and support of a game I love. I understand the dislike of racial boons or the desire to see them fade over the coming seasons, and that would be a fine choice; though personally I would like to see some "recycling" of older racial boons (In very small numbers) at large events.

Simply put, "Race boons" to me represent someone who goes out of the way to support a game they love; such as spending money at a convention of size. And by going to these conventions they have a chance to get, as Drogon put, a "freak flag" to show they support the game. I would just like a fair shake at it, is all.

Ahoy!

I had t'e honor of attending Tacticon in t'e fair land of Colorado! Now, tis was a fine adventure wit' fine folk and even finer ale! Now, in me hours I had a grand time, to all who ran, and all who played! But, in me sober hours I had to ask but one thing to t'e gods and all the represent: Where are t'e racial boons!

Now, I respect that those that run t'e adventures that I squash wi'h me chainsaw should get any bonus that they could get their hands on. The players did not have a chance to get ANY boons that would let them play any other race (I mean, how many times can you be a half elf and not want to drink your self to sleep? The answer is one).

Any hoot, point is; if the fine folk offer to make a grand event of smashin' and fighing fer good; does it make sense that the fighters get the option to some of the finer rewards for fighting? ( To be fair, all players in a convention should have the chance to get a racial boon or other high level boons; this does not mean that we should get those exclusive to Gencon or Paizocon, but that we can reap the awards of the convention that we deserve)

point being, I would be honored that the mighty decemberaite (Yeh non democratically elected gits!) give us mates the right, or honor, to earn our place wit' them racial boons even if we cannot attend yer honorable events in far off lands. Ah love your group, and yer game, and fighting fer the folks of good. Give meh and mah crew to earn the rewards we deserve so we can fight t'e good fight! (To sum it up, I think that all cons (conventions) should have access to racial boons (Not ALL mind you, to make the major cons special) but to support the community and to make it even more special.)
