Rule Number 5: NO monologues. Save the chit chat until after you have physically seperated his head from his shoulders.

I don't hate dwarves. Though I don't like playing them as a PC.

It's the low DEX/ Beard thing. I like to play characters who use speed over strength. And I HATE beards. I tolerate them in real life, though I think they make most people look filthy. But in RPGs, I never have a character with a beard. Or mustache. (For a while, I had to be careful with my GMing, because "he has a beard" was almost always a code for "evil badguy..." when I was running. I've gotten better since then.
Though Iron Kingdoms dwarves didn't have to have beards...

Other than that, I think they make great NPCs and I've had several players who did a great job with dwarves, so I love to have them in my parties.

There are all kinds of fluff you could use to explain a dwarf with no beard.

I.E:
Captured by (enemy of your choice), shaving was part of the torture before you escaped.

Dishonored your clan and was forced to shave before being expelled from the clan.

Alchemist ... Boom, enough said.

Follow a Deity that perfers clean shaven priests.

the list is nearly endless.

Male Human New Products Guy/Data Entry

I'm off to visit family, will most likely be back tomorrow. Hope you all have a Happy Holiday.

Let him keep the stats, if he usually rolls badly then all having high stats will do is put him on an even footing with the rest of the group.

I don't have any D&D books 4E or otherwise, only pathfinder books, otherwise I'd be interested.

I've got the core rule book and I've read it, I got some base stats using the 20 point build ...
Strength - 14 (+5)
Dexterity - 16 (+10)
Constitution -12 (+2)
Intelligence - 10 (+0)
Wisdom - 13 (+3)
Charisma -10 (+0)

Mostly it's the feats and adding the 5 levels that have me lost and confused.

I was wanting to play a slightly crazy wandering half elf monk

does the +2 for playing a half elf apply to my end ability result or add 2 points to my build? For example, would I apply it to the 16 I have in dex making it an 18 or would I put it in with the point build?

I'm trying to work up a character but it is the first time I've ever done this, heh, I've never even played a live game so I'm kinda very lost. That being said Leshok can have my spot if everyone is ok with it cause I don' see being able to do this without some help and no one around here plays pathfinder. Thank you for the chance to play though.

ok, I'll post a character tonight when I get home then, thank you for the chance to play.

Yay! Do you have any suggestions on what type of character to play? I'm open to play anything the group needs and I can roll up a character once I get home from work tonight.

Got room for someone who has never pbp before? If you do then I submit my name into consideration.

Is there room for another first time PBP person? If not it's alright, just thought I would ask.

I work for a company that sells Paizo products online. Sometimes we will put products into our system before we have the actual product in hand. When we do that we search Paizo or what ever company the product is from for information and a pic, a lot of times the info and pic are correct but sometimes the cover art for items change from the time they are announced, to when they are released. Chances are that B&N does the same thing and they just never compared the picture they have on their website to the cover art on the book when they got the item in hand.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I could almost see the use in such a spell/item. In one of the Forgotten Realms books Cadderly uses a Sneeze command/spell to interrupt a wizard's spell casting and I can see a correlation, the only real difference of the 2 is that a sneeze disrupts a specific spell while vomiting would prevent you from casting for a set amount of time.

Wouldn't that be a humorous character concept, a Cold Caster, but instead of ice based spells, have them giving fighters the flu and bards strep throat, and a rogue that can not stop sneezing won't be sneaking up on anyone.

Sorry, just throwing my 2 cents in, or I was until I got side-tracked by the cold caster.

I would like to submit the half-elf Thanoi Auror a ships Wizard.

Spoiler:

Orphaned, lost and starving, Thanoi was barely surviving, much less living until he tried to steal from The Teacher, a wizard of some power, living incognito in a middle class part of Sandport. Rather than call the guards or create a commotion, The Teacher took Thanoi in as an indentured servant/slave. After a year of serving the wizard in this manner, the relationship changed to more of a master / student bond and Thanoi began learning the ways of magic.

Several happy years passed for Thanoi in which he learned much. Eventually The Teacher bade Thanoi to leave Sandport and put his magic to use outside the confines of the simple town.

Not really sure where to go or what to do he wandered down to the harbor where he happened across a First Mate recruiting for a patrol ship that had lost some crew in the last big storm, and had drifted into town to make repairs. Not knowing what else to do or where to go, Thanoi signed up.

It wasn't long until the captain realized that Thanoi was no regular sailor and began putting his magic to use. Things like Dancing Lights and Ghost sound were used to frighten superstitious sailors on enemy ships while Obscuring Mist was used for those occasions when stealth was the better part of valor.

After 6 years at sea hunting the pirates that sail the coasts of Varisia, Thanoi's ship has finally returned to Sandport, the closest thing to a home he has ever known.

Thanks for the chance to present a character!

I'm interested as well but I'm currently at work so it will be about 8 hours before I could present a character concept or look over the materials. If that puts me out of the main group I'd like to at least apply for the waiting list.

Thanks.

At this point it's really just me being curious and trying to get ideas about a character I'd like to play, everyone in my area plays 4E, not pathfinder so I don't yet have a group or game and most likely if there is going to be a pathfinder game I'd probably have the be the one to start it. Thank you for all your comments though and as soon as I can get the $$ I plan on getting the APG and looking into the Elementalist Wizards.

I just got and read the Core Rule Book and for whatever reason the idea of playing a sea going wizard kept popping up in my head.

My thoughts were of a wizard (or sorcerer) who use to work on an ocean going ship. Possibly a pirate chaser or even just a ship who's captain had more money than sense.

Basically his role would be to help the ship either sink or capture other ships or in the case of a rich captain, to avoid pirates/bad weather/sea monsters. Doing things like creating fog or causing distant sounds or illusions to either help avoid conflict or to cause pirates to run aground. In the case of a fight, meteor storm and fireball come to mind for clearing enemy ships decks and allowing the crew of his ship to board the other vessel easily.

Elemental(water) Bloodline for sorcerer, Evocation School for a pirate hunter wizard and maybe illusion or conjuration schools for the wizard working for a rich captain.

For skills I would think Knowledge - Geography(oceans), profession - sailor, Swim, maybe perform or slight of hand for entertaining the crew while at sea?

Feats I have no idea about although from what I can tell feats are more class based than fluff

I'm not sure how this would work with land based adventures, heh, I'm extremely new to Pathfinder (I have yet to even play my first game) so I'm not even sure if this concept would work at all but it's the thought I had so I'm posting here to see if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on making this a playable character.

Comments, suggestions, tips, hints and criticisms welcome.

Thank you very much for the replies, and for letting me know that I need the Beastiary more than the AGP to start out.

As for helping the kids, I was thinking about high-lighting the various things they would need to roll specific colors, and getting dice to match the colors.

The idea about playing through a couple of fight scenes is good, I think I'll try to play through a few with my wife so when we are playing she can help guide the kids through what to do and roll.

Another question I just thought of, Would I be better off to wait until the intro set is out and start with that or go ahead and get the books and just baby step my way through everything until we all have a good grasp of what how to play?

I work for a place that sells Paizo products and have to spend time on paizo.com getting descriptions and info about said products and that has made me want to play PF. The down side is that when I asked about PF at my FLGS I was told that the only thing played there is D&D 4E.

I just got a little chunk of change for my birthday and I'm going to use it to buy the Core Rule Book and the Game Mastery Guide and I'm going donate plasma to get the APG.

I get the feeling that I'll end up having all the books and not having anyone to run a game with besides my family, which is ok because my wife has expressed an interest in the game and the kids will try any kind of game at least once.

That being said, does anyone have any suggestions on an AP I could run that would capture and maintain their interest and let them have fun in the game? Their ages are 8, 11, 12 and 15, All Girls, although they have grown up watching the SAW movies and Nightmare on Elm St. so blood and guts don't bother them.

Also any suggestions on how to make things easier for the younger ones to understand, would be very helpful.

Oh, and any tips for my first attempt at GM'ing would be excellent as well.
