Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Did Caladrius ever get healed, or just stabilized. Otherwise I'm still taking my dirt nap. Zzzz...

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius moves into the room (to M4) and loses a bolt of lightning towards where Pygrado helpfully located one of the assassins. The lightning crackles harmlessly around Pygrado, but hopefully outlines the invisible foe in an instant of electric radiance.

2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 Electricity, DC17

Grab Him! And watch out, there is one more invisible assassin! Caladrius shouts, mainly to Pygrado.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Because they are in a guild and just killed Visran for money. You do the math.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius draws in his breath to toast the perfidious captive, but can hardly react before Martin has the same idea about silencing the dwarf.

He moves to the side, out of the axis of the door, and waits for it to go down, smoke and sparks playing about his lips.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius motions for everyone to be quiet, a reasonably redundant gesture as he listens to something. Other side of the door he whispers. Three people. Two assassins, probably more.

Perception:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

DM:
Does Gareth's assessment of Dulff's character square with whatever Caladrius might know about him?

We can make up time in the main passage, but we are still going to have to get around the Goldcrest forces.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius takes Gareth's tongue-lashing like a man and does not back down from his glare, muttering something in draconic which could be part of his examination of the strange sphere, or a reply of some sort to Gareth.

Knowledge(Arcana):1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

After a moment, he winds the tab on the construct several times and holds it out dramatically in both hands as it (presumably) wakes up. State Instructions. he orders, clearly giving it a standard command.

DM:
I know that You did not explicitly mntion this command, but I think that it is completely reasonable for this to be a command on a construct that could wind down and be found by someone, unless it is password protected or something. Also, I might have missed this but does Caladrius know who Visran is?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Well hopefully it didn't get away while you were flailing at that golem.. Caladrius begins pushing all the tables and remains of tables to the side in a less cursory search of the room. Take 20 for 31 Perceptio

He lifts up a small spherical clockwork critter from beneath one of the smashed tables. This must be the little bugger

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Hold him for a minute.. Caladrius foists the prisoner off on another member of the group and begins searching for whatever this drone is.

Perception:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Ae you sure that there is in fact anything here to find?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

I'm back, just about. It is going to take me a day or two to get back home, but my vacation was awesome and Caladrius is finally back!

Caladrius comes forward dragging the captive by his injured arm none too gently. I was wondering if you guys were going to need some help. Also, why did they think that I was in charge of this group?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

I have caught back up with the game and I am going to be back home in a week, so by then this combat should have wrapped up. If in the mean time you guys actually need some help,I can always knock out the prisoner and join the fray.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Sorry I haven't been posting much, but I am in Yunnan and Southeast Asia at the moment and it is harder than I expected to find internet, so bear with me, and I will definatley be home for the beginning of February.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

I didn't say they wouldn't do us any harm. I said that they were the golems that worked in the mines. I guessed that they would not do us any harm Caladrius says petulently.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Knowledge(Arcana):1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Knowledge(Local):1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18

Caladrius motions to the others They are not the dwarves, they are just the golems that work the mines. Show them the Mithril Guard badge.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

DM:
Caladrius wouldn't necessarily know that it is an everburning torhc, but I assume that it is since Jamros shoved his face in it without getting burnt a minute ago. Don't worry, I'm not reading the spoilers. I know that it can be a fine line between character knowledge and things that I as a player assume from my knowledge of the game, I will sometimes say a name that Caladrius does not know, ooc (which that sentence should have been) but never in his dialogue. Anything in first person is probably ooc, even if I forget to tag it as such.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Brilliant Caladrius says exasperatedly as he too moves to hide, but in the shadows across from Jamros. Is there anything to actually hide behind, or just the shadows? Ας έχουν ένα πράγμα πάει γαμημένο δρόμο μας He swears in Draconic as he frantically motions for everyone else to get out of the middle of the hall. Lights out!

If that is another ever burning torch behind me, I am going to grab it and shove it into the dirt to smother the light.

DM:
How is the tunnel supported, are there wooden beams holding up the ceiling, or is it finished in stone?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

The tunnel should go fairly straight to the city, but there were mines here before the tunnel was built, so it might hit some of the existing tunnels.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Just a hunch, I guess. Why else would there be a tower so heavily fortified with nothing around it? You said you had a hunch too.

DM:
That is a very good question. Do I know anything about the layout of the tunnels?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

DM:
Well thats good to know. You have to watch out for those evil documents. How about whether any of the papers have been rifled though and replaced or anything removed?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Come on, of course the Mithril Guard knows explosive runes. Also depending on how long this all takes, Caladrius is still performing his search on the desk.

Yea, yea, over there... he waves his hand in the vague direction of the door as the others notice it. At Pygrado's question he actually looks up. Right here. he tosses the badge to Pygrado before leaning down and checking the alignment of the papers on the desk again.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

If this fortress was garrisoned by the Mithral Guard, Caladrius points to the equipment lying around. It is probably because there is an entrance into the network of escape tunnels around Silverkeep. The problem is that if you can get out of a tunnel, you can also get into it. We need to find the tunnel.

Put those down! Caladrius scolds Jamros as he begins to search the commander's room, shooing out anyone who tries to enter. Perception to see if anything in this room was disturbed or removed by whoever killed all the guards: (Take 20 for 31).

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius has been investigating the tower and thinking as though there were something important that he could not quite remember. At Martin's mention of the basement, however, he seems to suddenly remember. Basement! I know why they took this tower! He bolts down the stairs to the ground floor, beckoning the others to follow. When you catch up, you find him performing his odd exercises, which are clearly important enough to take a minute out of his mad dash to finish.

Caladrius remembered halfway down the stairs that he had not performed his invocations for the day, due to the difficulty he had remembering about the basement of the tower. Draconic Knowledge and Endure Elements for everyone are back up presuming that he has about a minute to cast the invocations.

Knowledge(Local):1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

They can see us because they can scout from the air. We need to stay under cover as much as possible until we can neutralize them and we need to think of a surprising way to approach the dwarves, since I assume that they have been warned of our approach.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Don't worry, Pygrado, I have meat from the horses in the Handy Haversack

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

I'm still here.

Trusting the others to have found a suitable campsite, Caladrius begins rifling through the Handy Haversack, bringing out some firewood and food taken from the town.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Upon understanding what the cloak is, Caladrius will offer it to whoever became fatigued from the cold and damp yesterday while traveling. This is probably Eleri or Jamros.

He holds up the Dead Guard's insignia. We should keep this until we can return it to the proper authorities in Silverkeep. We don't want it getting into the wrong hands.

Patting the Handy Haversack full of supplies, Caladrius seems anxious to move out.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

I know what it says. I also know that Silverkeep is to the Northwest... Caladrius proceeds to explain the local geography, complete with vague arm waving to demonstrate the directions that the army is traveling in. Gareth, you should go ahead and read my last spoiler, which is the information from the Knowledge check which I am explaining.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

The main army is heading for the city. What is interesting is that so many of them including the commander are heading in a different direction.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

retcon reply...
Caladrius leaves the magical items to be identified, still looking enviously at the dry cloak. He turns his attention to the chain shirt, Is this magic too. Reminds me of my armor that those halfling f~~#ers took. The next morning he dons the chain shirt instead of the cloak. You can see that Calarius now has a raw, puckered scar on his shoulder from the weapons of the halflings. It has been a while since one of my characters healed a wound entirely naturally.

The next morning...
After conferring his protection from the elements on everyone, Caladrius puts some dry firewood and as much food as will fit into the bag taken from the Goldcrest camp. Just in case the army has foraged all the supplies in this area. We should be prepared. Caladrius then holds up a paper that was hidden on the body. Looks like he found something before he died though. Any idea what this means? Go read my spoiler from above.

We should bury the body. He was a soldier of Silverkeep after all.

What is in the direction which the main part of the army is heading? Knowledge(Geography):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Don't forget you all have Endure Elements on you now.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius wakes, happy to be warm and dry at least. He performs his morning exersizes and then calls you all over. I think I figured something out, it could help with the cold and rain. Caladrius demonstrates a set of slow, sweeping exersizes for each of you. You feel like the temperature has adjusted marginally to be more comfortable.

Used Draconic Knowledge Invocation on myself and then used Endure Exposure on everyone. Each party member is now protected as Endure Elements and is also immune to any effects of my breath weapon both for 24 hours. (as per Dragon Magic pg. 80)

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius looks around the room at the tired group standing there. We should get the fire going. Someone check if there is any wood left in the cellar. Gareth, want to help me drag some dinner in from outside? Caladrius gestures in the general direction of the dead horses.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

If no one has stopped Caladrius from taking the dead soldier's equipment after a few minutes, he has probably traded his damp and bedraggled Goldcrest cloak for the dry and presumably only slightly bloodstained Silverkeep cloak and laid out the rest of the usable equipment on the floor before undertaking a more careful examination of the body. Take 20 perception if I can.

DM:
What killed this man, was it a gun or some weapon Caladrius would be more familiar with, or maybe magic? How long ago was he killed? That sort of thing. A take 20 for me gives me a 30 perception.[/ooc]

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

As the group finally trickles into the abandoned building, Caladrius looks around relieved that there are no live enemies in sight. I am assuming that the trip here took until night.

Well at least we can eat the horses. He says, passing the late cavalry scouts. This building should be a warm enough place to rest since we seem to have found the trail of the army. I assume that the horses are a viable food source, since IRL they are pretty delicious.

Caladrius looks over the body briefly, just to make sure that it is not anyone he knew before stooping down and patting down the body for equipment. Sorry, but I think that we age going to need this more than you do. He says to the body before starting to salvage anything usable. If we stop here for any length of time I will make a more thorough examination of the body for anything of use (take 20) unless someone stops me.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Is there a larger-scale map of the area that we can refer too to get an idea of where would be useful to go?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

As the others examine whatever is on the walls of the cave, Caladrius gives them only a cursory look, instead standing just inside the door of the caves and tapping his foot impatiently.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius points to the gravestone itself. If the blood is magic, what about the grave? Do they have anything to do with each other?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius looks curiously at the creepily impervious dirt on the grave.
How long ago does the grave appear to have been dug. Perception1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Hearing Eleri's assessment of the extraplanar nature of the blood, he thinks for a moment, trying to remember something buried deep within his magically enhanced memory.
Knowledge(Local):1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Knowledge(Planes):1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
There is no way I can make the second Knowledge(Planes) check.

What has happened to Jamros is not unique. Men have lost their powers of speech in these woods before. I have always heard that some sort of fey creature was responsible. However, an outsider could be powerful enough to lay some sort of curse. Hmm,that is kind of interesting if there is actually an outsider living in the woods. He looks at Eleri and addresses her. More research is clearly required, which seems to be your job.

He moves to leave the mound, but looks back after a beat. Is there any way to point whatever this power is at the Goldcrest army and let it go to town on them, so to speak? What do you think?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius follows Jamros to the top of the hill and sees the magically dry dirt which cannot be removed from the grave. Well that is creepy as all...I can't seem to think of a proper similie for this situation. He sees Eleri using her magic to examine the grave. I'm assuming that it is magic, but what else have you found out about it?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

When Caladrius awakens, he sits still for a moment as if meditating and then performs a quick series of tai-chi like exercises before looking up at everyone else. Refreshing my Draconic Knowledge invocation for today. He looks out of the cave, grumbling at the weather this particular morning. Well at least this rain should cause far more trouble to the army than to us. We should get moving.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

I suspect that we will need to get to where there is a proper spellcaster to diagnose and fix him. In the mean time we should at least rest. He gestures to the grave at the top of the hill. That looks new, was it here when you rested here last?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Thats odd. He might not even be speaking a language at all, just nonsense. I guess that monster hit him harder than we thought.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius looks around the cave, peering at the tombstone and then focusing on Jamros and his alien shouting, trying to figure out what his frantic antics mean.

What happened to him?

Caladrius listens to the strange sounds coming out of Jamros' mouth, thinking for a moment.

What language is he speaking? Linguistics:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius hides a smile, hearing of Gareth's interpretation of the plan as he tries to shoo the rest of the party away from the burning camp. Well at least if he is going to fail, he did it with style. Lets move. Is there somewhere nearby we can hide to wait out the night?

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Just a question, which of us is wearing the magic leather armor. I don't think we knew it was magic when we were putting it on.

I kept a set of leather armor one of the daggers. I assumed that I had the bag also, but it doesn't really matter which of us holds it, so maybe someone who will be closer to meele gets the magic armor.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius nods to Martin and finishes chaining the bodies in the tent. He then lights the tents with jets of flame. He stands back and watches the fire rise for a moment before turning back and clapping his hands. Alright, lets get moving. We need a safe, hidden place to hole up for the night.

We don't know what that creature is so there is very little point in trying to defend against it. I'm not necessarily convinced that Jamros is the halfling it was looking for. Perhaps there is away to direct it to perform its... he gestures back at the burning tents ...virtuosic... work on the rest of the Goldcrest army.

If there are any manacles left after chaining the intact enough bodies, I will pop them into the bag which we found.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Spellcraft:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Spellcraft:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

Caladrius looks puzzled by the electricity crackling from the end of the first wand, but nods in recognition as the snakes come out of the second wand.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Hearing about the diviner, Caladrius throws his hands up in the air. See, divination. If we need to rest, we need to do it somewhere that is not here. This is the first place that they will look for us and if we are somewhere else, we can get the drop on anyone who they send. We need to destroy this campsite and stage it to look like we died here to confuse the enemy for as long as possible.

Caladrius then rounds on Gareth, waving the gnome's strange weapon in the air. You see this? Silverkeep can't fight this; we need new weapons, new tactics. We need to adapt, to change faster than everyone else in order to win. Speed is of the essence and we are not losing any more of it!

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

Caladrius pauses to consider for a moment. I see you point, but we should at least try to get word of the weapons and tactics of the mercenaries from Carron in the employ of Goldcrest. We could also try to link up with Lord Hekkard. Caladrius looks around as if checking over his shoulder for something. We should also assume that the enemy is using divination magic to find our whereabouts, which is why any misdirection will help.

Male Human Rogue [Investigator] 1/Dragonfire Adept 3

When we were done they would all be identified.

Caladrius hands the wands to Gareth. Here, you can identify them on our way to Silverkeep. He seems to be getting more and more agitated as time passes standing around instead if trying to beat the Goldcrest army back to Silverkeep.
